Bulletproof whiteboard created to protect teachers and students from shooters

[The perfect accessory for the next peaceful protest and the resulting police brutality.]

Given the horrific event that occurred last month in Newtown, Connecticut, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing a rise in products designed specifically to protect children against shootings in schools. One of the latest such devices is a bulletproof dry-erase whiteboard.

Made by Maryland-based Hardwire Armor Systems, the 18 x 20-inch (46 x 51-cm) ballistic whiteboard is made to be carried around the classroom by the teacher, who would ordinarily use it as a non-intimidating-looking teaching aid – it weighs less than four pounds (1.8 kg), and has rubberized handles on the back.

In the event of an attack, the idea is presumably that the teacher could grab the board, get between the shooter and the students, then use it to protect both themselves and the children. Its bullet-stopping capabilities come thanks to Dyneema, a polyethylene-based material developed by the company. The board is reportedly capable of absorbing multiple clips of ammunition from point-blank range without ricochet or injury, as can be seen in the video below.

This reminds me of the Office

This reminds me of the Office Parachutes they were selling after 911

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

How about clear bulletproof

How about clear bulletproof cubicles for each student, and there is an intercom system so students can answer questions. Also bulletproof book covers and backpacks. And bulletproof lockers so kids can hide... but clear so no one can hide guns in there!

...also, why don't we have TSA frisk our kids between each class,at lunch, etc? Would definitely make school safe.

How about we install a bullet proof

glass security wall that slams down once an alarm has been set off in the classroom? It will partition the kids and teacher off from the killer.

It should only cost 100 million per classroom or we could be realistic and give teachers guns and biometric gun safes where they can protect the kids. Maybe $500 or less would cover it and you wouldn't have to arm every teacher.. Chances are, it would wind up never being used because having a gun is one hell of a deterrent.

That's just dumb.

On so many levels.

Although you might buy a bunch of them and line

the cab of your blue Toyota Tacoma with them. Hmmm.

I'd rather have a loaded gun.

I'd rather have a loaded gun.

It is better to look dumb and not be, than to look smart and not be.

lol, that'll work. Good thing

lol, that'll work. Good thing the shooter will keep bouncing bullets off the shield instead of targeting the other students. And it's against the rules for him to walk up and lean over the shield and shoot them point blank as they crouch on the ground.

Is there a shield that stops cars of the middle of the day drunk drivers from plowing through school grounds and through the side of the building? Because statistically that may have school shootings beat.

"against the rules"

You said a mouthful there.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.
