VIDEO - This Story Made Me Mad: Indiana Police Officer, Wife Could See Jail Time For Saving Little Deer

By ABC News | ABC News Blogs – 14 hours ago

ABC News' Gio Benitez, Mosheh Gains and Emily Stanitz report:
Should an Indiana couple go to jail for saving Bambi?

That's the question surrounding the case of Jeff and Jennifer Counceller, who rescued an injured fawn and nursed it back to health at their Connersville, Ind., home. The couple now faces the possibility of jail time and fines after state officials charged them with a misdemeanor for harboring the animal.

Jeff Counceller, a police officer in Connersville, and his wife were charged with unlawful possession of a deer, a misdemeanor that punished to its fullest extent could put the Councellers in jail for up to 60 days and cost them up to $2,000 in fines.

Up Vote for Irony

Cop charged for violating some obscure law he probably didn't even know about. Now that's justice, karma, and irony all rolled into one nice, sweet little package. Just file it under "ignorance of the law is no excuse" (a favorite mantra of any state). You know the government is out of control when it begins to eat its own. Bon appetite!

LOL.Would that cops would

Would that cops treated humans the way they treat deer.

Aiding and Abetting a Terroririst or what?

not going to read it, but it is likely the case. Deer will soon be seen bombiing plains, trains and automobiles. They will ingest C4 and thier little deer pellets (as they drop them) will explode all over the place.

You will no longer be safe flying, riding or driving.

OK, vote it down... I'm saying it anyway.

You say a COP might do time for "UNLAWFUL POSSESSION?" Good. Maybe he will appreciate this now:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
How is "possession" a crime? Of anything? I hope this cop asks himself that every day until he joins LEAP.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

The states greatest fear? Jury Nullification

This is a perfect case where Jury Nullification needs to be exercised. Once the state prosecutor realizes that he will lose this one by nullification, this case will be dropped faster than a 12 point on opening day.

Jury Nullification

I am all about Jury Nullification... and who knows, maybe this event will be the catalyst that causes ALL juries to be informed of their right and duty to judge the Law as well as the facts.

On the other hand, I'm with fishy on this one.
I hope that he receives the same treatment that he gives "civilians".

If that is one that is honorable and Constitutional, I hope that he receives mercy.
If he is just another parasite police state lackey, I hope that he is treated with the same disdain that the police state has for supposedly free peoples.

That reminds me of a post I saw on here a while back

A guy showed up at a jury selection with a T shirt that said, "I reserve the right to advise the jury on nullification"

I don't remember what happened, but my guess is he was not selected for jury duty.

Ask ol' Robin Hood about taking the King's Deer.

I had two city folk come into my office wanting the animal control number. They saw a fawn standing by the mother who was killed by a car. I explained the "circle of life" in the foothills to no avail. I said call, then we'll go and chase it away from the road.
When we got there two coyotes were eating it...oops

They need to...

They need to represent themselves and demand a trial by jury if these charges aren't dropped. Don't even waste money on a lawyer.

Would you all think the same way if

It were A Bear that they hand raised? From a wildlife biology point think it thru??

It wasn't a bear. It was a dear. Two different animals.

But But

They are both wild. Call the proper authorities. They'll handle it. Deer do attack humans.Google it and see for yourself. Usually because someone thought that the little hurt thing needed help and then needed a home.. I think that is why they are called wild.

pretty much would! But it isn't a bear, it's a deer. I have friends that live out in the country and they had a doe that would come visit and walk right in the house and eat candy. OHHHHHHHH she was SO dangerous! NOT!

Yep Yep

But do you think that they are doing that doe any good?feeding it candy?? I live in the mountains myself and share the woods with the wildlife. I sure as heck wouldn't do something as stupid as inviting wild animals that are large enough to hurt or kill you anywhere close to the living quarters.
Animal rescue shelters which will rehab the critter and then set it free if you must ... or... how about just staying out of the way of mother nature.
So they saved the fawn but starved the coyote or other scavengers.

So were they supposed to shoot it?

But guns are bad...bad guns...bad...

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

Dumb dumb dumb! This is seriously stupid.

what a load... "kill the deer, it might be dangerous." LOL ... are they for real? "Unlawful possession of a deer?!" ... that is just sad... how is it "unlawful" to possess a deer? what a crock of sh1t.

here's what's "unlawful",
encroaching on someone else or their property.
not holding true to your word\contracts.

that's it.

God handed Moses ten

God handed Moses ten commandments, while our governing authorities deem it necessary to establish 10's of thousands of them.

Moses found the time to turn those 10 Commandments into Leviticus, so...

Yep... After I posted that I thought something similar: "I'm sure some astute person will be quick to point out the other 600 plus rules found shortly thereafter."

Still, 630 (or so) regulations with 10 big felonies seems a bit more reasonable than the list our governing authorities keep compiling.
