Kerry Sails Through the Senate Confirmation as Secretary of State

NY Times: WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed Senator John Kerry as secretary of state on Tuesday, filling a key position on President Obama’s retooled national security team.

The nomination was approved by a vote of 94 to 3. Only three senators, all Republicans, opposed the nomination: Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas, and James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma. Mr. Kerry voted present.

Roll Call Vote

Mr. Obama’s first choice for the job, Susan E. Rice, the ambassador to the United Nations, withdrew as a candidate after Republicans criticized her for comments she made after last September’s deadly attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.

Mr. Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat who has served in the Senate since 1985, had strong support on both sides of the aisle. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the panel he has led for the last four years, gave his nomination unanimous approval hours before the Senate vote.

In a statement, Mr. Obama took note of Mr. Kerry’s bipartisan support. “John has earned the respect of leaders around the world and the confidence of Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, and I am confident he will make an extraordinary secretary of state,” the president said.

Being from Massachusetts...

I don't blame anyone for voting to rid themselves of this pompous, hypocritical, windbag. I'm glad to see him go and I'm sure many of the Senators who voted for him feel the same way.

First they ignore you
Then they ridicule you
Then they fight you
Then you win

Although Bill

Although Bill S.618,introduced by John Kerry died on May 17,2011,Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund Act,John Kerry and John McClain on June 25,2011 led a delegation to Egypt and Tunisia to promote private sector growth.included was a collection of corporate parasites from General Electric,Boeing,Coco-Cola,Bechtel,Exxon Mobil,Marriott and Dow who surveyed Cairo like conquering despots. The same corporations that funded the think-tanks and media organizations that crafted and sold the "Arab spring' to the world.

Just How Long

is Rand going to "just play politics"? I keep saying that time will tell and I don't like what I see time telling.

skippy

Just for Show

He can make all the "just for show" votes he wants. Like it or not we need sheeple and the more "republican" he looks the better, he is shaping the conversation. Like weening Israel off aid, if you say "cut aid to Israel" your an antisemitic. But say "ween Israel and the rest of the world off aid" your a fiscal conservative. Hes doing a good job and he hasn't voted against the Bill of rights yet ,that i know of.

Politics

Rand is playing politics, we all know when it comes down to it Rand will fight the fights that need to be fought. The Dems own the Senate, what good would it do for him to vote no. Other than give Hilliary ammo in 2016?

What good will it do to vote no?

It shows us what he stands for.....

I agree with you

I still support Rand. There was nothing he could accomplish by voting no.

He could have accomplished a lot

He could have gained support from "We The People".

He looses more ground each and every day with his voting record.

"We the people"

I think "we the people" you speak of is about 1%-5% of voters. If you don't support him because he voted to confirm John Kerry, then we have no hope for 2016 maybe we can just settle with Rubio or Allen West would be great too! How bout Jeb Bush! Or Chris Cristie all these guys will do a lot better than Rand. Or maybe we can all write in Ron Paul again! Screw it we should start looking for a more libertarian candidate to replace Rand in the senate. Some times I feel like a lot of you guys don't want the liberty movement to go mainstream.

Actually it was as much as 20% in some states

and I suspect, it's a great many more that are still apathetic because of playing politics. If you want to lead real men and women you have to BE a real man or woman.

People are attracted to action, not talk and promises. Well except sheeple of course.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution, inevitable.

Put another notch

Put another notch in Rand Paul's "Flip Flop" voting record. Even after Kerry admitted he wouldn't fallow the Constitution when Rand questioned him.

I hope you people are paying attention.....

I hardly ate today and still puked.

The same clowns regurgitated again and again.

This was the biggest love-fest confirmation

that there ever was in Washington.

I don't know exactly what to expect from Kerry. I don't think he's as war-hungry as Hillary Clinton, but to what degree I'm not sure.

I'm sure Binjamin Netanyahu is thinking much the same thing, along with Castro, Putin and a few other leaders.

Confirmation of John Roberts

Was a pretty big lovefest, too. And look how that turned out.

He's the man.

John Roberts

Has almost the exact same style as former chief justice William Rehnquist, which isn't necessarily bad.

It's a damn tough position, I don't envy him a bit.

Duh...

If you have ever worked in government, all the appointments and things like this are pre-determined and approved behind closed doors. They do not want anything to create controversy so it's always a done deal before they make it public.

beephree

I find little logic in your claim

If "all the appointments and things like this are pre-determined and approved behind closed doors." then Susan Rice would have been nominated and confirmed.

They want to minimize objection and most are fetered out

before appointment. I have worked closely with government and watched repeatedly as this scenario unfolds. Susan Rice most certainly had skeletons in the closet. Regardless, it is the same Council on Foreign Relations puppets, etc. that keep getting appointed to carry out the agendas of the global elite. They can substitute all players in all positions to get what they want, as long as they tow the company line.

beephree

So Rand Paul voted him in too

So Rand Paul voted him in too huh?

Of course he did.. what else

Of course he did.. what else did you expect? He is not his dad....

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...
