Anyone want to fast with me?

Two weeks from today begins Lent http://www.marypages.com/Lent.htm

I am posting this now, so those who may want to join me, will have two weeks to feast, or enjoy, what they will give up for lent/40 days.

I have practiced Lent for decades because I always found spiritual strength in not being alone in my suffering. The first time I practiced Lent, I gave up chocolate. Every year I progressed, until last year, I gave up food.

That's right, I did not eat for 40 days, and this year I intend to do the same fast because it was so successful.

When I decided to give up food for Lent last year, my doctors were prescribing me medications, 27 pills a day I was taking, and I was getting NO relief. Since my fast, I have not needed any medication and my doctors are amazed at my tests.

While going through Lent, one doctor advised me to drop the fast and scheduled me for a meeting every week. I went to confession and told my priest that I lied to the doctor and told them I had given up the fast, but I did not, because it wasn't hard to do. I was feeling great.

Many here who don't believe in Jesus, or the power of healing, can say whatever they want about it. Jesus helped me heal myself, and made me not hungry until the last week of my fast. And let me tell you, I was tempted. Oh how the Devil tempted me. I was getting dinner offers, and free food coupons, and the soup kitchen was receiving crab dip and beef roasts, and cakes and cookies, and chocolates that made my mouth water. Sometimes at night my body was so energized I could hardly sleep. Still, it was not so hard that I would not want to repeat fasting for Lent.

Some of you may want to experiment, like quitting smoking, or beer, or soda, or ice cream.. whatever you really really like.

I really really like food. I LOVE FOOD. Last year I lost 40 pounds. I was not fasting to lose weight, but to lose the meds.

For 40 days beginning February 17th, I will be consuming:

6 oz Grade B Maple Syrup with
6 oz certified 100% organic lemon juice, fresh squeezed (lemons go on sale at this time of year and so you save money on food bill as a bonus)
Good Water, not distilled.. I also use sparkling water.. and even flavored waters. Clear beverages with no and very low calories.. boullion, coffee, but this is very limited, and I really don't go there until the last weeks, also sugar-free gum helps, because your jaw will miss chewing. I freeze half the Lemon syrup mixture to eat like ice cream some nights.. and make it like a hot tea on cold ones.

So, If you would like to join me on my food fast, or merely give up something you LOVE for Lent, I thought I would make a thread as a kind of support group for those who could use some support giving up something they LOVE.

While I am religious, and do my fast for religious reasons, this was not always my case, so I do not want to make this a religious thread. I have my Church and ADORE JESUS, so grateful to My Lord God and savior. My sacrifice is mine. Your sacrifice must be yours alone. For God, or for yourself, matters not on this thread. The only thing that matters is that you have decided to fast for Lent/ 40 days, and appreciate support from those who are also fasting.

TWO MORE WEEKS.. These two weeks are going to pass very quickly, so I just want to give you a heads up now, so you can mentally prepare.

Actually ((((dducks))))

I would LOVE to learn to weld. I have a weed dragon, so I get to burn propane.. but yeah.. I'd like to weld.. I like working on cars too.

I'd LOVE to fly making a sonic boom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnQhXbzPaSA

Or coming out of the water http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnQhXbzPaSA

Or making fireworks http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=aOx_wHhitqk&NR=1

But this is about as good as I'll ever get in my dreams

Weed Dragon, I love it. I used to call it a weed burner in Colorado, now in Florida it is referred to as a propane torch. But it is hereby officially a weed dragon now, says me.

Great videos. Good luck with them.

Not all of the stitches have disolved
Not all the bruising has vanished
90% of the swelling is reduced
I believe I can see better
My left eye, which was the worse of the two, appears to have a cyst in the corner that I'm nursing with hot compresses, doctor can't do anything for two more weeks.. and then we'll "see" if I need additional surgery on that eye. The right eye seems happy.. it's really hard to tell because of the bruising..
So I'm not mowing the lawn or chopping wood or lifting anything heavy yet.
The few times I've gone out in public, people say "Ouch!"
I had to go see my dentist for teeth cleaning and have the fluids changed in my car (maintence).. it was cold and I went to a restaurant, got into an argument with AT&T, the manager came over and was sympathetic to my complaint to AT&T, and so were a few customers in the restaurant.. they wanted to sell me a frozen margharita.. I got a Bailey's and coffee.. and then someone bought me another Bailey's and coffee.. so it was time to go.. because one drink and I'm the life of the party. Two drinks and I'm the wicked idiot witch from God Only knows where I'm from (It's Indian blood I'm sure why I can't handle alcohol, as much as I love it.. it doesn't love me back)
And Oh.. last Sunday surprized the choir, showed up and sung.. and what was amazing about that is it made my eyes bruise up.. but in a good way, like passing the old blood out and reclaiming a healthy glow.

Sorry you asked? Well now you know.

Yeah I like my weed dragon.. only way I know how to keep gravel from becoming a lawn.

Wow, quite the week.

Some good tales there. You are are certainly hard as nails. If I just got out of surgery I would put off teeth cleaning for at least a year. : }

Thank goodness for the weed dragon!

Good luck!

This really is a great goal and I wish you the best of luck. I would encourage others to join you if they don't have a hefty workout routine going for them.

I did my first juice fast about a year ago and had remarkable results. I am not overweight by any means, but I just felt better. My wife and I really got into juicing after watching "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." I highly recommend watching it to any that are extremely unhealthy and need a huge kickstart into a healthy life. I still worked out daily while on my juice fast and had plenty of energy.

Fasting is definitely a short term thing and I think it's good to go "extreme" for short term fasts. Other stuff that you want to get rid of in your life is good to do a little less extreme, or one thing at a time. July 5th, 2011 was the last time I drank pop (soda for some of you) after having at least one everyday. I haven't looked back since. I still juice daily (for the most part) and drink lots of kombucha, eat organic/non-gmo foods and live a pretty dang healthy lifestyle - mostly thanks to my wife. If you told me I would be eating like this 4 years ago I would have never believed you - I lived on freezer meals, pop, and fast food most of my life. It really will change your life, but I would find it hard to switch lifestyles in one day. Start with one thing at a time.

As for the spiritual/religious part of fasting, the intent is to focus your attention on your dependence on God, not on food (Man shall not live by bread alone Matthew 4:4).

I may just have to start another juice fast with you for encouragement-sake. I'll be keeping up with this post!

Thank you bronko

Awesome post. Great advice, wonderful testimony.. loved the scripture.. THANK YOU!!!

Doesn't your body start consuming muscle tissue after about a week? I've fasted before for about a week, but after much longer than that I would be concerned that I'll lose most of my muscle and strength that I've been working at through strength training. After 40 days I can only imagine how emaciated I would be. I don't have 40 lbs of fat to lose.

Also, I wonder why nobody has mentioned other filters like Crystal Quest? It isn't distillation, it's some other method that filters out fluoride as well as other things. Similar to ProPur, the one Alex Jones advertises. The system I have is two cartridges about a foot tall each that the water travels through.

Never heard of them, that's why I never mentioned them.

I've heard that the body starts consuming muscle. That didn't happen to me last time. I have a lot of muscle and used to wish I could lose it.. I'm an "Amazon".. Red Lerille http://www.redlerilles.com/history.html used to beg me to compete, when I was employed at his gym, cook, bartender, vacuum the floor person.. when I was going to college.

Back then, women didn't want to look like this:

Matter of fact.. After college, I moved to Reno NV, where my mother's hairdresser invited me to "The Coronation of The King and Queen" It was a national event for the G and L comunity. The hairdresser dressed me up.. so we go to this event, and I thought it was very interesting, very beautiful. So I go to the bathroom.. The bathroom was full of Queens. I go into a stall.. minding my business, when security arrived, busted in the door and told the Queens they had to leave. The Queens were going off on security. I emerged from the stall, and a security guard grabbed me by the arm and told me, "Let's go.. get out of here!". The Queens totally freaked, "SHE'S A REAL WOMAN!! That's a REAL Woman, you stupid jerks.. LET HER GO, LET HER GO. It was damn near a riot.

The guard apologised to me, and I made a lot of friends that evening. So, I may be statuesque, but apparently I look as good as any Queen competing for national coronation, when I get dressed in heels (6'2", and wear a nice dress and make up).

I'll stick with my current

Wardrobe. Can't afford to be a fashionista.

To my Liberal Trolls:
"Really Don't mind if you sit this one out. Your words but a whisper, your deafness a shout. I may make you feel, but I can't make you think."
Ian Anderson 1972

I don't do it to lose weight

It's whatever you want to make of it or not. I saved at least $200.00 on food last year during Lent, certainly not even enough money for a pair of fashionista shoes.. but could help DP, eh?

Whatever you decide, peace be with you.

That's weird!

I've never fasted in my life. I have been trying to eat before the sun in the am and after sunset in the pm. I have been studying the bible lately and felt like 'they did it, maybe i'll try it' kinda thing.... But anyways, it's just reassuring to see this, and pretty cool at the same time.
Onward to Truth!

P.S. Distilled water all the way! I've been buying a couple gallons when I go food shopping and I'll try to drink them throughout the week or two. I still drink 'regular' water (brita, yes i know it doesn't remove flouride and stuff)

Be careful of distilled water!

It can be considered dangerous. Please look it up! If people are not careful, it can lead to death, distilled water. Info on this is everywhere, here is one link to start with:

Seems to me

You fast all day everyday and eat at night. Think about it.. I enjoy it especially during Lent.. I think it's this universal mind meld that works on the subconscious, IOWs I don't know why it works, but I know that fasting during Lent is easier than any time during the year.

My well water has no floride .. only whatever the geoengineered clouds drop.

There is a 40 day distilled water fast.. this guys says Walmart distilled water is best if you don't have a distiller http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCbuSP3LtF8

Very nice posting.

I wish I could join you.
Sadly my beer drinking gets in the way.
Winter depression as well...

I hope to find myself once again soon and re-focus on healthy

God bless you.

I am sure you know that

alcohol is a depressant.
It never hurts to remind of the obvious though.

You have to know that my spelling BEER out was a call to YOU. You've got two weeks to think about it.

Peace be with you <3 <3 <3 XOX <3 <3 <3

Peace be with you!

One day when I was selling hot roasted chestnuts on Robson St. in Vancouver I wrote on the bag these very words "Peace be with you!"
I was desperate no sales..nothing and I was freezing there -- shortly after I wrote those words a woman came with a child.

Those are wonderful words ((((LL))))

And that is a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing!

I never had chestnuts before I was 30.. so I bought a dozen, failed to vent them, roasted them, couldn't wait to try one, so I popped one in my mouth, bit down, and it exploded..

Had my mouth burnt for days, skin coming off the roof of my mouth.. and boy did I get a taste of roasted chestnuts.. all you have to do is mention it and that taste comes back.. I think it's part of my DNA now.

chestnuts are holy food

Sorry to hear about that exploded chestnut.

While selling them on the street for 5 years I can tell you they don't explode if the cut is made on one side before roasting.
Pressure has to be gone...

I had a few explosions LOL

The story goes Jesus was crucified on a chestnut tree...the hardest tree in the region -- Romans would use for crucifictions.

Big hug my friend*)

your drink is fascinating--

the lemon juice/maple syrup--

I gave up wheat, sugar and anything not organic (including meats)--

about 20 months ago, and I've felt better, but I've lost so much weight I don't dare fast right now--

Also no longer use yeast; breads must be yeast AND wheat free--

which is tricky; also don't eat anything 'white'--

but I am finding this fascinating, and I'm feeling drawn to it, to give up something, not sure what--

very interested--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Corn? Eggs?

Gee, what an amazing person you are 1988vote. I would be real curious to know what you could give up since you already gave up most everything on my everyday diet.

You can add something.. like working out, walking, running for 40 days.

You've got me wowed!

Good Water...

Yes, "good water" is best, and the best water is pure--distilled.

The other types you mention are almost always municipal tap water that has chlorine (main cause of heart disease--it creates micro-abrasions in your circulatory system that your body must heal and these scar areas are where cholesterols accumulate and give people heart attacks--cholesterol isn't a problem by itself) and fluoride (which calcifies the pineal gland that many people call the "God part of the brain" and if you consume fluoride (tap water) the fluoride calcifies around the pineal gland and makes you not only less healthy, but less spiritually aware.

Flavored water will likely have high fructose corn syrup. These are all toxins--neurotoxins, immunotoxins, cardiotoxins.

Stick to Distilled!

To me, distilled water is for car batteries.

I have well water and it's very good, delicious!

The flavored water I'm talking about, has no sucrose, Fructose, Dextrose, or artifical sweetner.. I prefer carbonated and here in CA, there is Crystal Gyser and Arrowhead choices.

isn't so good for you...

For though you think you know the thing, you have no certainty, until you try. -Sophocles

Oh but it is

Personally, I drink at least a quart a day, and it's one way I'm sure to drink water.. no more sodas for me.. check this out http://nutritiondiva.quickanddirtytips.com/is-carbonation-ba...

is what is good for you. Carbon Dioxide kills cells--it's the waste gas we expel. It's like our air-shit. You wouldn't eat shit would you? So why breathe it?

It's quite simple.

For though you think you know the thing, you have no certainty, until you try. -Sophocles

So happens

I live in an area with some of the cleanest freshest air in the world, and I love it BREATHE DEEP.. I do a lot more breathing than drinking carbonated mineral water, and I drink carbonated mineral water instead if sodas.. of course I have a well, with wonderful water and I drink plenty of that with pure delight!

Ahhhhhh deep sigh.. feels GOOD feels GREAT!

Hope you feel as GREAT as I do.

I meant...

Why would you drink Carbon Dioxide when it creates an acidic environment in your body? Well Water can be OK if it's clean, but if you are in SoCal there's a lot of pollution and in NorCal there's still Fukushima radiation dropping on you.

But I respect your faith and your fasting so congratulations.

It's clear you lack some pertinent information. Faith is good but ignorance isn't--arguing with me that carbonated water is good is a perfect example.

I'll pray for you.

For though you think you know the thing, you have no certainty, until you try. -Sophocles

I'm in NorCal and started making rawsome radiation buscuits before Fukushima.. Had Miso soup yesterday (had falafel today, with hummus and tomato, greens,, olives.. make my own kimchee), Miso will be part of my fast when I'm into it a few weeks.. I eat a lot of seaweed.. make my own Avocade rolls (nori).. seaweed snacks.. sea weed for salt.. I grow and eat lots of kale, LOVE kale chips.. sprouts, chia..

I appreciate your prayers, and the fact you care. Makes you a beautiful human being and I LOVE and respect that!!!

Peace be with you!!!!
