Pastor Who Left Sanctimonious Tip Gets Waitress Fired from Applebee’s

After a copy of her Applebee's receipt began circulating online yesterday, Pastor Alois Bell of the St. Louis-based Truth in the World Deliverance Ministries phoned up the restaurant and asked to have everyone involved fired.

See the receipt!

Update!

Went to dinner avoided Applebee's :) that was like $50 bucks they just lost.

This is BS

why fire the waitress over company policy? Why is a pastor who lives off the congregations donations singling out a waitress. She sounds like a real A$$.

I think...

Mr. Pink went to this pastor's church.

Good night!!!

What kinda restaurant gives their waiters an 18% tip? Applebee's ain't cheap anyway.

Restaurants

which pay their employees much less than minimum wage - and expect the public to pay their hired help...been there, done that.

um, most give 18%-20% on parties of 6-8 or more

the standard tip in 2013 in 20%. Servers only make $2.13 and hour. Do the math, most serves are working poor (unless they are in high volume restaurants in larger areas where the cost of living is much higher)

Minimum wage

is $7.25 an hour.

Wait People

don't make minimum wage. Please educate yourself before posting.

skippy

Not in all states

I know that Wisconsin for instance, considers tips as part of a server's wage, and restaurants do not have to pay them the minimum. Last I heard, servers in WI were making $2-$3 per hour before tips. I live in MN, and when I worked as a server I was making $7.50 plus tips.

How long ago was that?

Just curious.

“When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic.” – Dresden James

I waited tables from 1997 until 2006

So that would be about 7 years ago...

Today....

Servers in Texas get paid like $2.15/hr plus tips, AND they get taxed on the tips!

I don't disagree with paying people what they're willing to work for, but I do have a problem with the entire system of tipping in the US...you know, the sense of entitlement.

I don't have a problem with tipping people a little extra when they go above and beyond their job, or when they hustle, or when they take pride and passion in their job, but I get upset with the entitlement aspect. Don't bite my head off! I tip 20% regularly!

I also don't like how other businesses aren't allowed to hire people for less. Minimum wage laws price young teens and the unskilled out of the market. Some jobs aren't worth $7/hr, and some people may be willing to work for $2.15. Just ask a waiter.

how do pastors tithe anyway?? lol

does she just take $$ from the right pocket and put it in the left? lol

How exactly is this pastor giving money to god?

Does god have a paypal account? What use would god have with

I have a sneaky suspicion she isn't actually giving money to god, but rather some con-man with a god-like complex that claims he speaks for god.

Religious people are bat-shit

Religious people are bat-shit crazy. I'm also reasonably certain that "God" doesn't need 10% of this guys income.

"It does not take a majority to prevail, but an irate tireless few keen on setting the brushfire of freedom in the minds of men." - Samuel Adams

I'm sorry you feel that way about me.

Math not her strong suit.

10% of income is a whole lot more than 18% of a bill.

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Benjamin Franklin

Yeah, her analogy doesn't hold up.

Does she get "paid" anything from the Congregation?

I wonder what "percentage" it is of gross revenue?

I openly challenge her to prove her tithing as well. Someone that cheap doesn't donate anything to charity either.

Perhaps being a "pastor" is a second job which is paid by her donating 10% of her primary salary in some other line of work to her "church." (and conning her friends to pay 10% of their hard earned money to her "ahem" the "church" as well)

And the whole idea of 10% of what you earn vs. 18% of a check, well, she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed for sure.

People getting all inflamed over how cheap she was...

but really this 18% is imposed on a party of 8 or more...

$34.93 for 8 People. Really? WTF? I'll bet 8 sodas
come to that these days! lol The whole check speaks
to how budget concious she is!

Split

It's a split check. They all ate like pigs.

No, the waitress got herself fired

She knew she could get fired for showing receipts online and sharing information about customers. You can't do that, it's considered a violation of someone's privacy to show financial details concerning them of any kind without their permission.

The so called "Pastor"'s little note was a smart-ass move on their part but It's not their fault the girl got fired. It's her own fault, no excuses, no scapegoating.

to be correct, it was

to be correct, it was actually a co-worker that took the pic of the receipt and posted it.

Do I need a receipt to tell you I think your logic is flawed?

A receipt from a restaurant is public document and knowledge available to all. Are you nuts?

beephree

False

Not true in the slightest. That's their information to do with what they want. What in the world makes you think receipts are private? Unless they've told you that the information is private, they can do with it what they want. That means if you spend $200 at the sex store, yeah, they can tell whoever they want.

Read the article. It's not a violation of company policy either.

It IS ABSOLUTELY the pastor's fault the girl was fired. SHE CALLED THE RESTAURANT AND ASKED TO HAVE EVERYONE FIRED.

Did you not read the article or something?

Don't blame others for your problems

It wasn't the waitress's information on the receipt, it was the party's receipt. Your receipt at a restaurant is private, that's why they sit the bill face down or in one of those folding things for bills.

You can always blame someone else for your problems but almost every time some of the blame is on yourself. Maybe the girl wouldn't have gotten fired if the pastor didn't call, it's not the phone call that got her fired. Sharing the contents of the receipt got her fired. Sharing the contents of the receipt also caused that phone call.

Ask any good server, they know not to do what she did. No one has ever kept a job in customer service sharing negative information about customers. Customer service is about being polite when someone is an A-hole to you. The girl and pastor should have taken Jesus's advice and turned the other cheek.

Are you serious?

That was the restaurant's copy of the receipt, not the customer's. No expectation of privacy there.

What she wrote, she wanted to be read, and it was.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

Precisely!

"What she wrote, she wanted to be read, and it was."

No

No, that's a courtesy. They could legally say, "HI JOHN, YOUR BILL IS $50, COME PAY AT THE FRONT DESK" over the loudspeaker. You just wouldn't eat there anymore because it's rude.

You can always blame someone else for your problems but almost every time some of the blame is on yourself. Good point. Lets go farther. I'd say also the creator of reddit is to blame. So is the manager for firing her. Lets not forget the guy who started Applebees. Also her mother and father. I'm sorry, but we're not arguing the philosophical implications of blame here. Your point is that the girl deserved it. Fine. Yeehaw. So did the "pastor" (who's church is actually just 15 people that meet up on Sunday to chat) who removed the tip value and decided she was holier than thou.

So no, I'm glad the pastor got put on blast. What a flaming piece of trash to treat the server that way. Then to call and demand that the ENTIRE STAFF be fired? How entitled must you be? I'll lay 5 bucks on the fact that the girl gets a new job within a week.

Don't treat your server like trash. Being a Christian doesn't entitle you to be a complete ass.

My point is that her actions are to blame for losing her job

not anyone else.

I think people who intentionally try to get other's fired are piles of poop too but I wouldn't blame me losing my job on anyone but me. The girl made a decision to react to a rude person by being rude herself. That decision had consequences, the girl is getting her 15 minutes of fame but she also lost her job.

Her actions got her fired, not any scapegoat you name. This was avoidable.

I didn't say anyone deserved anything, I'm not the judge of either of them. The idea of giving people what they deserve just because you think so is a marxist idea, "each to his own ability, each to his own need". People in a free society are responsible, self reliant, and accountable for their actions. People in a free society only deserve what they earn. You say, "oh, she didn't deserve that, that's not fair". Life isn't fair. We are created equal and given the right to pursue happiness but not guaranteed an equal result of happiness.

You ask, "How entitled must you be". I'm not entitled to anything but life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Do you think the waitress was entitled to a tip. I know, She had to work so hard to carry people food and she deserves more money. Personally I'd rather pay less at a buffet and carry my own darn food.
