Pastor Who Left Sanctimonious Tip Gets Waitress Fired from Applebee’s

After a copy of her Applebee's receipt began circulating online yesterday, Pastor Alois Bell of the St. Louis-based Truth in the World Deliverance Ministries phoned up the restaurant and asked to have everyone involved fired.

See the receipt!

The Waitstaff works for you, not the restaurant.

They are entrepreneurs serving their customers.

The restaurant pays them a pittance so staff gets all the IRS & FICA paperwork, per Congressional edict.

Taxing tips is a crime.

yeah

That was part of the reason, too. The other parties were filled with loud, rude people who were letting their kids run around the place (though the people next to us were very kind).

It is unfortunate that families who behave well like yours are rare these days. In restaurants, malls, stores, wherever, you can witness people who seem to have had no business having children, and especially having so many, inflicting the misguided fruits of their loins on innocent bystanders.

yeah, like those

kids from that video that was posted here the other day, the "dat's why you gay!" one. All too common.

Nothing wrong with kids being kids, but letting them run around and sticking their hands in the buffet tables is just lazy parenting imo. Unsanitary, too.

LOL, thankfully I've never had to endure a service-type job before, I'd go absolutely mad within a week! Don't know how some folks do it.

You know, I don't even think it is boorishness.

I think it is poverty. People with a handful of kids don't have any spare money. Dinner out is a budget buster, and the corner they cut is the tip. It sucks, but I am more bothered by taxing the tips than I am by families that don't tip. That said, I agree that the other guy deserves thanked for making that waitresses day.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

Yeah, good point. The

Yeah, good point. The highchairs and all that meant food all over the table and on the floor around the table. Not to mention the time the kid threw up on the table and the mom said "you know, he's been doing this all day."

I feel very fortunate that I don't work in a restaurant these days.

Wow, good thing my landlord is accepting [these kind of tips]...

Waited tables in Lynchburg, Virginia, home of Jerry Falwell (when he was alive), Liberty University and tons of Southern Baptist churches. The waitstaff used to constantly get Bible tracts instead of tips. It was like, "Wow, good thing my landlord is accepting annoying bits of scripture this month in lieu of actual money." - comment posted to this article.

This is always - ALWAYS - cheapness masquerading as piety. And the thing is, the people who pull this stunt, on some level, KNOW that this is the case. If there wasn't some degree of self-awareness attached to pulling that kind of a**hole move, then people like Pastor Bell wouldn't get upset when someone other than the waitress they intended to shaft knows about their "tipping" habits."

As a Christian who has waitressed...

I wonder what 'Pastor' Bell would have done if the roles were reversed. Parties of 8 or more at a table do make more work for the whole crew, who all receive some of the 'gratuity'. I can testify as well that Church Parties are some of the worst tippers. (With the exception of a few principled Pastors / Congregational leaders)

I guess she doesn't understand the concept of grace very well, and that in and of itself disqualifies her for ministry.

I hate places that add in the tip automatically.

Both parties were out of line.

The restaurant was out of line for adding in the tip automatically.

The customer overreacted too.

But it was a party of 18 or something. Most restaurants automatically add the tip for large parties as customers routinely scrimp on tips for large parties. Especially the ones that are the most demanding.

This was not for a large party.

$34 will barely buy a nice dinner for 2 or 3.

That is incorrect. It was

That is incorrect. It was for a large party that asked for separate checks, apparently to try to get out of paying the "large party tip" as one man paid for all of the individual checks.

It was a large party...

they split the checks.. so the server had to do even more work for these d-bags.

She "claims" she gives god 10%. Who knows. It's a lame excuse.

She knew the policy, ate and refused to honor her word.

I wouldn't be surprised if wait staff considered spitting in her soup.

Waitress bought you water, took your order, rushed out your dinner the the busboy cleared your mess.

Ungrateful wench invokes name of God to cheat the servants.

Jesus loves you...

but the pastor thinks you are an overpaid bitch.

Good I hope her "ministry"

collapses faster. Sorry, No women should lead a pastorship in any church unless it is a church for women only.

Judging good and evil?

Look for the message, the messenger is just doing a job. Chromosome count may be an issue. Nothing, however, is beyond God, tis' said.

hiya

I was wondering why no woman should lead a pastorship in any church unless it is a church for women only? just curious is all

1 Tim. 2:11-15:

“A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

But that is just mine to opine. End of discussion as only negativity can come of it.

okey dokey

I believe that any religion which makes you a better person is a good religion and I guess that covers all beliefs too =)

Given that even pastors are prone to sin

(and need to ask for forgiveness), it seems to me that the Christian thing for this pastor to do now is to meet with the restaurant manager and ask that the waitress be given her job back. She might also want to chip in that tip that was such a big issue for her. Who knows, maybe the waitress also gives 10% to God . . .

Magna est veritas, et prevalebit. Truth is most powerful, and will ultimately prevail.

Wow, this pastor is a real a$$hole isn't she?

Wow, this pastor is a real a$$hole isn't she? Wonder what her sermons are like? Yuck.

The Waitress, too.

She deserved to get canned because she posted the pic on the webz.

I tip in cash. It is no business of Applebees or the government as to how much the waitstaff receives.
I have never NOT tipped anyone, and it is almost always well above the 15% standard.

Douchey service, though, is inexcusable.

I disagree. And it was a

I disagree. And it was a large party. Many restaurants automatically add gratuity for large parties and make that point very clear. The pastor was an a$$ plain and simple.

Employer

So the employer doesn't have the right to ensure that they are not harmed for the actions of their employees?

Cool, I want to work for someone like you.

The customer harmed herself by her own actions.

The customer harmed herself by her own actions.

My father always said don't write anything down that you wouldn't want all the world to read. Well, this pastor learned that one the hard way. It's sucks when you get screwed over. It sucks really hard when you're the one who screwed yourself over. She sucks really hard...

True Dat

and she is now out of a job for posting that picture.
And the 'pastor' also looks like a douche.
2 douches don't make a right.

The pastor screwed up, but what you and the other waitresses fail to see is the culpability of the person that took the matter to the public.

A mature way to handle it would have been to show the Manager and make a deal to never have to serve them again. The manager could have taken charge and spoke with the pastor upon her next visit.

The way it was handled left no wiggle room for Applebees. One can NOT have employees treating customers like that... FWIW , I am not an employee of Applebees. I am looking at it from a purely Libertine manner. Responsibilty comes with Freedom.
