Rand Paul to bring new fight against TSA

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is continuing his fight against the government-controlled TSA and has introduced bills to privatize the agency and establish a passenger bill of rights.

This is the senator’s second attempt at overhauling the Transportation Security Administration; the Kentucky Republican introduced two similar bills in mid-2012 that didn’t make it through the Commerce Committee last year and received little support.

But Paul remains determined to overhaul airport security and reduce the TSA’s power, which he believes is commonly used to violate airline passengers’ privacy by committing offenses like inappropriately "groping toddlers". By privatizing the TSA and establishing passenger rights, the senator believes he can improve the airport security process, he said in an interview with Politico.

One of the two bills would require that airports hire private companies of their own choosing to conduct security screenings. The TSA already had a program that would give select airports this option, but recently abandoned it and returned full power of airport security to its own employees, thereby eliminating the competition

Pssst, Rand

I love it when the trolls go

I love it when the trolls go on a tirade denouncing Rand for doing the same thing that they praised Ron for doing.

I mean, how much hate do you really have to have in your heart to go around posting emotionally-charged negative reactions to every single post about Rand or anyone else? What does that do for the environment here? What kind of impact are you having by spreading your hate around as much as you can?

It's like when establishment Republicans criticize Obama for doing things that they remained silent about or even applauded when Bush started them. It's exactly the same thing.

Many people who aren't exactly like Ron Paul have done great things, even if other things they do don't seem too good. Every person who does even a little bit for liberty has a role to play. Except the people who get off on just going around saying how much they hate various people. That doesn't help one bit.

Didn't I hear Ron mention

Didn't I hear Ron mention once or twice about privatizing airport security? What's the big deal?

Semantics

Ron was talking about 'privatizing' airport security by eliminating government involvement completely so that airlines would be in complete control of their own security, with all the responsibility that comes with it.

Unfortunately, 'privatize' usually ends up being equivalent to fascism, where a private company operates under a governmental power. This is what Rand is proposing. The TSA would still be in complete control.

So you purpose no security?

So you purpose no security?

We don't need an overhaul...

The TSA should be abolished.

"Privatize"? LOL!!

Uh, no thanks. Abolish it. Do I really want to create a Halliburton with a vested privATE interest in maintaining federal control over travellers? What is wrong with him? Abolish it. The public would welcome it, although the power-mongers and corporate fascists might pretend otherwise.

What a letdown.

But if it were privatized,

But if it were privatized, wouldn't the market work it in our favor?

Precisely

That is exactly the problem with his bills. It keeps everything under the auspice of DHS. I wrote about this last year.

Ron Paul's

Only half a brownie for this - here is why.

It occurs to me... Prince Reibus claims to read the DP, does anyone from Rand's staff bother? If so, please make note, because this is important...

THE TSA IS IN VIOLATION OF THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT.

I am a rape survivor. I suffered for years from absolutely debilitating anxiety attacks and HAD TO QUIT FLYING because just the stress of THINKING about "they might touch me without consent" was enough to send the epinephrine surging. I knew I would wind up arrested or dead if I actually got picked for a pat down. Scanner option? I am a middle aged woman with a mother who had breast cancer, and have been advised to avoid ANY unnecessary exposure to radiation. I don't care what YOUR doctors say about it, MY healthcare provider advises against it.

If you would take up the case for ENDING searches without probable cause, which is EXACTLY what these pat downs are, you would get a whole brownie. Since when is taking a flight "probable cause" and if it is, where is the warrant to search me?

The Constitution would have your back, Rand, if you would like to look it over. Ask your Dad for a copy.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry

How stupid is Rand? 'Passenger' BoRs??? Creating a new class of citizen, Rand; The 'Passenger'? What happened to the first 10 written back in 1789??
I say NO!!!
My right to be secure, to protect my security, to be left alone is a fact of my existance that no man or authority can abrogate as they are unalienable and should not depend on whether I'm a passenger or not!
Stupid Rand should be reiterating founding, universal principles and shoving the 4th Amendment in the faces of the rest of Congress. I've never felt anything for Rand either way, but after reading this he's pissed me off.

stm is correct

This is how government expands. The TSA continues to grow, while congress passes a "Passenger Bill of Rights." Reality tells us these government morons don't respect the 4th amendment. What makes anyone of us think these government morons will respect a "Passenger Bill of Rights?" The "Passenger Bill of Rights" is the 4th amendment, it's time we exercise it.

The "Passenger Bill of Rights" is just a bone thrown to the people, while the TSA continues to abuse our civil liberties, with or without a "Passenger Bill of Rights."

So now I'm the enemy because I don't agree with Rand?
Because I don't believe we need another BoR but that we just have to follow the first set?
If anything you're the one b*tching because I excercised my freedom of speech.

You are not the enemy. If

You are not the enemy. If you will notice, Rand has people attack a thread as soon as it is posted. After a while the comments turn, and reveal that our liberty movement is solid in principle no matter what Rand says and does. I just hope we can stay on top of this cyber warfare game he told us he started when he turned on us and endorsed Romney.

Thanks for taking the time to point out the real problems with the bill objectively. You are the patriot here.

Oh man,

Cat is out of the bag! Yes, we the establishment borg got our marching orders straight from Sen. Rand Paul to come to his defense here on the Daily Paul...your accusation is pretty ridiculous.

P.S. Are you aware of how many neo-cons and other assorted establishment types Ron Paul endorsed over the length of his career? It's politics.
