Her Romney-voting father was not impressed by my Ron Paul car sticker (Friday night story)

So I met a nice girl a few weeks ago, and I went over to her family farm to hang out. As soon as I got there her Dad pulled into the driveway after me, and I saw him looking at my car. (I assumed it was because it was an unfamiliar car in his driveway.)

I walked over to introduce myself to him, and before I got too close he yelled out, sarcastically, "Ron Paul, huh?"

I smiled and replied "yeah of course. Best vote of my life."

He just looked at me.

Then I said "and I donated a lot of money to his campaign, too." (A few hundred bucks is a lot to me at this point.)

He kind of laughed, gave me a puzzled look, and said "Really? That's probably why we lost."

I smiled and teased him and said "naw we lost because we didn't nominate him in the first place."

That was the end of the political discussion for the night. Then she told me about their conversation the next morning. I guess it bothered him, and she told me he went on and on about it for 20 minutes...

"Why would he vote for someone he knew was going to lose?"
"Why would he give money to someone he knew was going to lose?"
"Did he want Obama to win?"
"Does he have a job?"

She laughed telling me the story, and I guess just told him "I don't know? Why don't you ask him?"

I wish he would have asked me. I would have been happy to explain myself.

But I wonder, how many other tirades has my inconspicuous "Ron Paul 2012" bumper sticker generated?

Aaaah, I hope the next question in his mind will be. . .

"Why would such an amicable rational person still respect Ron Paul and continue to boldly show off his RP sticker? Maybe there IS something to what RP is saying beyond just a 2012 election campaign."

It's a great accomplishment, Delysid! Now he will always remember YOU when he thinks of RP r3VOLution . . . Your *stellar* reputation just might nudge him to re-examine RP with fresh eyes :-)

YEEEEAAAAAASSS!!! NOW they're starting to get it!

And to be clear, it's not PROBABLY why they lost...it IS why they lost.

At that point I was so pissed off at how the RNC/GOP had treated Ron Paul (and us), that I had no problem NOT voting fot the party hack (Romney) they nominated.

They were to be punished and so they were.

My "let it burn" strategy is working out just fine.

Let it get so bad that the sheeples finally awake from their sleep of ignorance and realize what's going on.

But apparently it's not there yet.

Four more years of Obama ought to just about do it though.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."

Nice

Mine's not as fun. I was at the gas station a couple weeks after the election and the guy at the pump behind my car looked at me and said, "Who'd you vote for in the general?" I was a little surprised by that random question, but realized he must have been looking at my bumper sticker because at the same time I noticed his Romney-Ryan door decal.

I said "I had to vote Garry Johnson this time. I didn't think it matters who won between Romney-Obama."

He said, "It mattered to me." I was taken by that and kinda looked at him. He continued, "I'm catholic, it matters for life."

I answered, "Maybe but I'm sick of fake choices. Romney passed romneycare before Obama was a politician. We spent the whole primaries looking for the anti-romney for a reason."

He just looked sad and said, "Yeah I know, but we needed to win."

I don't know why we needed to win still.

Sounds like you all are grown adults, so...

... to each his/her own (intellectual luck/wisdom), at this point in life!

Best wishes (in "sharing your luck" with you know who...) ;)

I love stories like this... I would love to know how many people freak out when they see my Ron Paul sticker along with my Gun Owner's sticker and "Got Liberty?" sticker. The elderly folks at my church probably scratch their heads...

"No physical quantity explains it's own existence, and no amount of time can consume an infinite series of events to bring you to the present, which means all of these somewhere have to be explained by one self-existent cause which is not physical."

LOL!

Now you have to keep dating her just to get to her dad. Let the conversion begin!

He should have asked you

Apparently he needs someone to point out that there wasn't any meaningful difference between Romney and Obama. That's what I tell every person who shows bitterness over my support of RP. They usually won't concede, but it does seem to get them to think a little.

I finally found a local jewelry store that offered a fair price for some french francs I had to sell and during the transaction, the owner started talking politics. The guy said he was a republican, so I brought up Ron Paul. He screwed up his face and complained that RP talked too much and was always putting his foot in his mouth. Before I could say anything, the owners grandson (who works there) jumped to RP's defense saying that RP never put his foot in his mouth, but simply told it like it is. The grandson, who appeared to be in his early twenties, kept jumping in on my side regarding econ and foreign policy and grandpa seemed to be listening...it was clear the kid had done a good job of self-educating on those issues. I get a chuckle out of RP youth educating their elders. The best thing the liberty movement has going for it is the massive youth following -- they're energetic, outspoken, and they are the future, so it gives me hope.

Hopefully, you'll get another opportunity to talk to the girl's father. Or better yet, educate the girl about RP and the liberty movement so he'll have to hear her talk about it all the time, like the jeweler's grandson ;-)

First, there is no such thing

First, there is no such thing as a nice girl.

Second, there is no such thing as a nice girl.

Third, there is no such thing as a nice girl.

Don't fall for the nice girl crap, if you don't bang her you won't see her again. So, get on it and stay away from the family gatherings.

Nice girls

go to Heaven. Bad girls go everywhere.

wow

Just because you have lost faith doesn't mean you should try to discourage other people. I'm engaged to the most wonderful girl I've ever met. She's nice... :) Also beautiful.. And she likes Ron Paul... What else could I want?

Keep looking...

If you dont bang her you wont see her again?

all you have shown in that statement is how completely insecure you are around women. You obviously haven't meet many if any at all. I hope you don't give this type of advice to your bros. They would be really pissed when they get rejected or worse miss out on the girl of their dreams.

i guess by his logic, we all

i guess by his logic, we all should have voted for obama, because you know, the other guys didn't win.

Might be too early to tell, but

If the girl is the one, then it doesn't really matter what the old man thinks. Sure it would be easier if he was awake, but its irrelevant IF the girl is "the one".

If you're not sure, then just enjoy the whole situation. It will play itself out.

If she's a liberty chick, then that's good on you for finding her.

If they're both die-hard neo-cons, then move on... you're worth better.

Thanks for sharing your story ;-)

Did he really loose?

He kind of laughed, gave me a puzzled look, and said "Really? That's probably why we lost."

Maybe someone should let him know that his man lost too, spent a whole lot more money doing it and three months later is barely remembered.

On the other hand, Ron Paul planted a seed of liberty that will grow and grow.

In the Next Election

He will listen to what you have to say. Might not ask many questions but he will listen. The "other guy" has been planted, just take your time and enjoy watching it grow.

You have to break them in slowly

Whenever I tell people the whole story that's unfolded over time they get overwhelmed or think I'm a kook.

You just drop bread crumbs. Eventually they will find their way. First I convinced my mother through some comments to register as a republican. She voted for Romney. I didn't have enough time to fully open her eyes. She's almost there. But even my Democrat father likes Dr. Pauls views.

The major thing is "why vote for someone who can't win" or "you stole votes away from X candidate.

Remember, it's not only a year long debacle. It takes four years. So we have four more years to turn people on to the message of liberty and real money.

Even my son knows everything now and he's 12. He actually sat through the whole pre RNC Ron Paul rally and he can't sit still for 5 minutes most times, and he watched a lot of the RNC with me as well. I tell him to never discuss politics in school because it may make him look kooky, or embarrass his teachers (although he did school a teacher recently on the caste system last week after asking me - today she put him in detention for something silly) or make me look like a kook too. I worry about that kind of stuff. A lot of teachers and staff don't like it when people question the status quo or history or people who support a third party candidate or people who are politically active but support "someone who can't win" "someone who is 'racist'" "someone who is an isolationist", &c.

That's what people do. So you have to plant a seed of doubt and leave a bread crumb so people can learn their own way.

Last week two 401K companies were courting us, me in me office next door, and the rep telling staff that a lot of young people will just stick their cash into a 2% bond or what have you and they should invest in the stock market. I almost walked in and started yelling about how in late '06 or early '07 being fairly young I put all my investments into low yield guaranteed bonds while everyone else did not listen and lost 1/3 of their retirement. I told people a bubble was gonna pop soon. I advised my employees. Of course most of the young people weren't putting in 10% as I did.

Young people are a lot more intelligent than most of us think. They might not have the best street smarts and do stupid things like I did, but they are intelligent and have healthier brains than older people. We always need to educate the youth and teach by example on what real money is, about the FED, politics, liberty, history, morality and anything and everything they are interested in. Kids pick up on things really fast. I tried to turn my son onto Tom Woods but he got real bored real fast. No offense to Tom Woods. It's just not geared to kids.

But again, leave him asking questions to himself. Don't try to be superior. Be respectful. At least he wasn't digging a grave when you met him like a girl's stepdad I dated once.

I would have asked him

1. Did you vote for Romney in the primary election?
2. Who did you vote for in the primary election?
3. Did you really like Romney?

I would ask him questions. Listen. Be respectful, and like Ron Paul, be patient. That is IF you really like the girl.. if she's nothing but a trick, then tease and banter with her Dad, make him angry, stir the family up and disrespect him on his proerty as much as possible.

Grang, I'm surprised.

"if she's nothing but a trick, then tease and banter with her Dad, make him angry, stir the family up and disrespect him on his proerty as much as possible."

Did someone hack your account? That's sooo not like you. C'mon, I know you're better than this. Whether the girl's a trick or not, he's got a hell of an opportunity to wake someone up.

ecard71

That's what it appeared to me, and it hurt me to think that the father was opening his home to watch some "young turk" take his daughter and school him. But I was wrong and I apologized first thing, and extend an apology to you too.

What I learned about waking people up. They've got to be open to being wakened. A lot of Republicans have NO clue, but being the GOP is at it's nadir, they "stick together", and the old timers have the upper hand.. many of them have money they contribute to campaigns, and that's more important that being schooled.

This is why Rand Paul is so important. He is schooling them, and they are coming around, and I'm VERY GLAD about it!

he may turn

You are completely wrong. Whether he really likes the girl or not he should treat the old man the Paul way, patient and respectful in the interest of furthering the idea. He may not turn, but he may, and at least it may get him questioning the status quo Republican party. Just sayin'...
