Virginia Close To Banning Government Spy Drones

RICHMOND — A House panel has approved a bill that would put a two-year moratorium on drones in Virginia while lawmakers work to craft regulations for use of the unmanned aircraft.
The bill sponsored by Del. Benjamin L. Cline(R-Rockbridge) passed by a 9 to 4 vote. It now moves to the House of Delegates for a full floor vote.
“If this bill is passed, they won’t be able to use them,” said Jones, a sheriff in Charlotte County who spoke against the measure. “If we had a drone ready to go, it would solve a lot of our problems and be an asset to officer safety.”
