(I find it somewhat entertaining and also frustrating that people actually believe so-called TV News is anything other than an entertainment product, the same as everything else that comes out of their tube.)
So here are my Top 10 Reasons Why TV News Is Entertainment. Nothing More, Nothing Less.
1. Easy to follow plotline and storytelling
Local, national, weather preview, commercial, local interest, sports, weather, smalltalk, credits.
2. Memorable cast of characters
Goofy weather guy, studly sports guy, on-the-scene gal, and our square-headed newsguy with his lovely co-anchor.
3. Suspense
Teasers run before newscast with a promise of more details at 6. If it was really that important wouldn't they just come out and tell you right away?

I worked for three years at KCAL 9, Los Angeles ( CBS Affiliate ) Came in to help complete the new NEWS Studio leased from the adjoining PARAMOUNT Lot. Just too handy I guess and they kept me around. Backstage and Office side it was referred to as "Info-Tainment". Plain and simple.
