This is exactly how you go
This is exactly how you go into a Viper's Den and explain to them that they are morons without telling them flat out "you are morons". This is not an easy thing people. You people not understanding how difficult it is to do what Rand is doing are out to lunch. It is AS DIFFICULT as it was for us to get to this point which Ron brought us to. The coming challenges and shift will be EQUALLY as difficult to get to the next stage - which is ACTUAL influence, not just a bunch of people bitching like the occupy wall street crowd.

@JustinRaimondo Ugh, how sad...
He's speaking to us.
If you missed it, I'll elaborate.
"I have a foreign policy. I just don’t happen to think it’s wise to tell the world what your foreign policy is...others would understand a policy in having no stated policy, a policy of strategic ambiguity. If you enumerate your policy, if you telegraph to the Soviets that the Strategic Defense Initiative is a ploy to get the Soviets to the bargaining table, the ploy is then made impotent.
Strategic ambiguity is still of value."
Replace Soviets with Neocons, and SDI with political positioning (Iran, Israel, Romney endorsement), and the picture becomes a bit clearer.
Of course, I could be imagining it. Then again, it's less far out than a lot of other "conspiracy theories" I often hear around here.
Critique of Rand's speech
EPJ:
During Rand's 'I'm not a neoconservative' speech, he had some nice (and hyperbolic) things to say about Reagan, which included:
Key word: "restrained".
Later on, Rand spoke of Obama's foreign policy:
We did not declare war or authorize force to begin war with Libya. This is a dangerous precedent.
Key word: "precedent".
Obama set a precedent for this type of behavior?
Perhaps we should rewind to 1983 to a tiny caribbean island known as Grenada. This island was part of what Reagan called "The Caribbean Triangle" which contained Grenada, Cuba and Nicaragua.

Just so we all have our eyes open here.
I think the biggest win here
I think the biggest win here is that the speech was allowed PERIOD. This is a MAJOR, MAJOR win.
not to mention iran-contra
i'm convinced the main reason republicans big up reagan isn't because he was great but because compared to the bushes he seems great.
Michael, I don't believe Rand
Michael, I don't believe Rand took questions from anyone. Please correct me if I'm wrong but antiwar.com shouldn't feel singled out if that's the case.
The Reagan thing is enough to make me scream.
http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/Franklin/FranklinC...
The best I could muster was "I'm a Goldwater Republican" back in 2008. There is no "taking over" the GOP without exposing the lies, and washing out the corruption with a big dose of "sunshine."
Ron Paul, Rand Paul... I'd forgive them both for everything forever if they stood up and exposed the pedophilia. Their silence makes me uncomfortable... Can they possibly not know? Are they under threat of death? How could you know about this, and go shake hands and "party" with people you know are partaking of the pleasures of child sex trafficking? And when in suit and tie making laws, just profiting from the trade - a nice little "passive income?"

The speech was great
Wasn't sure if you were going
Wasn't sure if you were going to post here or not and I wanted to start sharing it all over!!! Hope I didn't offend.
Step in right direction
We need to realize that this policy is a step in the right direction for America. The majority of voters, especially republican party voters, do not agree with a totally hands off foreign policy, yet. And I emphasise yet, because eventually persuasion will win the day. But for some people they need to take baby steps. Incrementalism is a good policy position that can help persuade the masses to accept our foreign policy.
Good Job Rand
You know, I tried again.
I red the transcript the first time, thought maybe his body language or something was making everyone else see something I missed, so I watched the video. Nope. He wonders why Iran is such a topic of discussion in Israel, but not in America... BECAUSE IT IS ISRAEL'S ENEMY NOT OURS. Really, that is a mystery to Rand? Why is ISRAEL even brought up? Why is a talk on US foreign policy ALL ABOUT making Israel happy? And why is everyone here so proud of him...?

He was implying that there is
He was implying that there is debate within Israel on how to respond whereas over here there is instead of debate just a consensus that America will go to war with Iran if they get a weapon or to prevent them from getting one... Of course it'd be better to have no debate on Iran's weapons bc of a consensus on peace: that's not what Paul was talking about.
I agree though, not my favorite speech... better than other Senators, glad it's something the Heritage folks will listen to, but I like strict Principle more.
"You must be frank with the world; frankness is the child of honesty and courage...Never do anything wrong to make a friend or keep one...Above all do not appear to others what you are not" - Robert E. Lee, CSA
I just wish justin raimondo
I just wish justin raimondo woould have been a little less criticle of the speech. Sure it's not the FP we all know will work best, but it is still FAAAAAR better than what we have in place.
All herald Cold War II
!!!
Lol there is a certain amount
Lol there is a certain amount of truth in this comment but still undeniably better than what we have today.
"Though at times stateless, radical Islam is also supported by
Iran..."
Hey, maybe Rand should read the DP
http://www.dailypaul.com/178779/the-last-time-iran-started-a...
Iran has not started a war since 1826.
"Islam" did not get "radical" until we sent the CIA in to teach them how, and Iran was an advanced, secular society until we overthrew their government. They actually recovered, and are once again a technologically advanced, PEACE LOVING nation.
On the other hand, Israel has been waging war since they were founded:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Israel
Rand says "I am not a neocon, and I am not an isolationist." I agree. He is just a Bible-thumping Zio-Christian who just HATES war unless it is for Jesus who wants him to murder for Israel.
Done, done, done. War mongering politicians DISGUST me. I feel terribly sorry for Ron Paul, if he is not ashamed of Rand he is blinded by love.
The creed of modern politics:
Ask me any questions, I'll tell you no truth.
When "radical Islam" attacks US SOIL, then it is time to wage war to DEFEND our nation. Rand's willingness to go TO THEIR SOVEREIGN NATIONS and try to make them Israel-approved is DESPICABLE.

Rand is making some waves
This was an excellent speech.
According to Politico, Paul said he was inspired to give what his office promoted as a “major foreign policy speech” after reading John Lewis Gaddis’ biography of George Kennan, the diplomat remembered as the father of the containment doctrine. The 800-page book won the Pulitzer Prize in 2012.
Positive coverage of the speech:
