Marco Rubio to deliver "State of Union" response to Obama in Spanish
Submitted by emalvini on Wed, 02/06/2013 - 22:35Stephen Dinan | Washington Times | February 06, 2013
Seeking to counter President Obama's speaking skills with a great orator of their own, Republicans have tapped Sen. Marco Rubio to deliver the official GOP response to Mr. Obama's State of the Union address next week — in both English and Spanish.
"Marco Rubio embodies the optimism that lies at the heart of the Republican vision for America," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican.
The move is symbolic for many reasons — not least of which is Mr. Rubio's prominent stance in favor of legalizing illegal immigrants, which is an issue that has deeply divided the GOP.
Mr. Rubio is in his third year in the Senate, and is mentioned as a likely 2016 contender for the Republican presidential nomination. In delivering the GOP's response he follows in the footsteps of other contenders such as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal in 2009, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell in 2010 and Rep. Paul D. Ryan in 2011.

Marco Rubio is not even
Marco Rubio is not even eligible for the executive office as he is not a natural born citizen.
should be interesting to see
should be interesting to see the MSM reaction.

It needs to be explained to
It needs to be explained to our hispanic friends that they are being used as a wedge to undermine the U.S. and the remaining opportunity there is in the country, including for them. If they want to become part of the American family, we want them, but that includes respecting our traditions and learning the language of our country, which is english.
The elite want to Balkanese the country and destory it. I'd love to turn their plan around on them and make these fine folks great citizens of the republic.
'Think I could suggest French to Mr. Rubio, as well?
'Think I could suggest French to Mr. Rubio, as well?
What about Russian? Polish? Italian? ...
Seriously. I have nothing against Spanish (the language) - heck, MY OWN family name is Spanish... but...
Mr. Rubio :
grossly conspicuous DEMAGOGUERY**, much?
Dang! I should have written this in French and made fun of the English language used in the country I chose to live in. Mr. Rubio would have been delighted. Dang!
I hope for Mr. Rubio he will also know Chinese... within 10 years from now (just an intuition).

I'm sorry, but...
you are all wrong. This is not 'pandering for votes'. (cue the downvote) Despite my claim, I will say that this is indeed a stunt.
bare with me, and try to understand the logic.
To speak an opinion in Spanish and English within the United States makes perfect sense. There is a massive Spanish population, and you can bet your ASS that Spanish is the primary language of many. If you don't like this concept (just because we're talking abour Rubio..) imagine this: a 2 hour Ron Paul rally spoken entirely in Spanish, to a mostly Spanish population.
Maybe you understand what I'm saying by now, but if not I'll go on.
Is Rubio making campaign promises in his statements? I wouldn't call them promises, even if he aludes to his positions. After all, he technically isn't campaigning for anything. [YES, he may be attempting to earn the respect of a specific demographic, but it is not with promises.]
Allow me to say this: I DO NOT SUPPORT RUBIO
But I'll be damned, if the Spanish-American population (legal and illegal) become more drawn to conservative values above federal welfare, healthcare, and absolute open border policy DUE to Rubio, then I will be grateful.
To claim that "you are all wrong"
To claim that "you all all wrong" is a fallacy of logic because you and the rest of us to not have the knowledge of his true intentions and all the facts behind this move. So to say that we are all wrong is naive and short-sighted...and a bit childish. (It's the whole nah ahh, yeah ya, nah ahh, yeah ha mentality).
Rather then stating that we all have valid opinions and that you will just be giving your different perspective on the issue, you jump into these irrational claims and declare your hypotheses the correct one without knowing enough facts about the issue to make such a claim and degrading everyone else's ideas of what might be his intentions.
YOU might be wrong! I might be wrong. WE ALL might be wrong. But it is way too premature to declare that any one theory is the correct or "right" one...all we can do is speculate.

I do it for the shock value
But, you're absolutely right.
GIVE ME A BREAK! The GOP has
GIVE ME A BREAK! The GOP has sank to new lows by trying to pander to the Latino community in this dishonest political stunt. How deceptive and manipulative to human beings. Do they really think people are that stupid? I hope this backlashes right in Rubio's face and liberal commentators like CNN and MSNBC rip him a new one for using this disingenuous tactic.

The Establishment Has Come Out Now And Annointed Him Via Time
The new Mitt Romney who is lesser known. It will be very difficult for the grassroots to defeat this guy.
Marco Rubio is a very slick and well schooled politician. He seemingly says all the right things and he has little or no excess baggage that can damage his political career..
Little Ricky Ricardo - The Latino savior - Arriving on the scene just in time for massive immigration reform..
How convient..
Everybody loves to complain..
but nobody wants to help do the work.

"Do they really think people are that stupid?"
4 packs of ho-ho's, a 2 litre of soda during an episode of dancing with the stars.. obama elected a second term.

The GOP is such a joke.
The GOP is such a joke.
Looks like our choices will be this clown and Hillary in 2016.
Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.
Those Will Be Our Two Options...
... unless we put aside our ridiculously high standard on Rand Paul and give him the grassroots edge that got Ron Paul where did in 2012.

Amen.
Amen.
They're really pumping this fraud, aren't they?
First the cover of TIME magazine, now this. I'd say he's going to be our #1 opponent in the GOP primaries in 2016. They'll be other fake conservatives as well, but he'll be the Santorum this time: the fake conservative which the conservative wing of the party is herded into supporting - only to lose in the end to the Romney (Christie/Jeb/?)....who in turn will lose to Hillary. It's going to be a 2012 Redux unless our candidate can unite the conservative vote around himself.
Just expose that Rubio is not
Just expose that Rubio is not a 'natural born citizen' and thus not eligible and you won't have to worry about it.
Rubio = Santorum
so true on so many levels, it hurts.
His disgusting neoconservatism aside, this is good politics
Apparently Rafael Correa of Ecuador won a lot of indigenous votes by addressing them in Kichwa.
I knew quite a few people who are enamored with Rubio.
Crap. We need to get more libertarians in office in 2014.
this might be good "politics"
this might be good "politics" but it is bad ethics...Rubio and the establishment only care about votes, not the Latinos themselves. This tactic to appeal to the Latino left is just pandering and mind control.

Question: Do you think I have a future in politics?

No
No they are not.

If this is indeed so, it is up to us to show them the way and not let Americans be duped by these kind of tactics.

Dear GOP leaders
I would also ask you to translate that into Gaelic, but seeing as my grandparents came over legally, taught us to love our new land and made us embrace the culture, there is no need since I can only speak English and wouldn't understand a word of it. They also taught us to work hard and not take handouts from government so we will be too busy working to listen anyways.

The establishment is desperate to promote this young NEOCON as the FAKE Tea Party representative in place of Rand Paul.
Problem is that Rubio is not articulate in either English or Spanish.
Rubio is one remark away disaster.
Worse yet what Rubio does say is not inspiring unless you sit on the board of a big insurance company or run a bank holdings company.

This is de-evolution.

When I heard the announcement, my own personal response was delivered in English and in French. Excuse my French.

Following in giant footseps
In delivering the GOP's response he follows in the footsteps of other contenders such as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal in 2009, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell in 2010 and Rep. Paul D. Ryan in 2011.
Giants I tell you. Giants.
Exactly my thought.
Giving the speech seems to be the kiss of death. It's like a place I used to work. When they finally give you a business card with your title, you got canned.
not surprised
just tells u he will be the establishment choice in 2016.
brace for it.
