Jon Stewart slams Obama drone strike policy (updated)

On Wednesday night's 'The Daily Show,' host Jon Stewart slammed President Obama over a classified memo that provides legal justification for the use of drone strikes against suspected terrorists, including Americans (video below).

According to Mediaite.com, a white paper, that the memo was based, on was reported on by NBC News. The document said that high-ranking United States could order a drone strike on leaders affiliated with al Qaeda and associated terror groups who were an “imminent threat.”

“So ‘imminent threat,’ in other words, imminent or not imminent,” said Stewart. “Broadly speaking, imminent in the geological sense. So, wait, we can kill an American who is in al Qaeda or al Qaeda-adjacent if they pose an imminent danger, and by ‘imminent’ we mean eventual?”

I respect John Stewart. He

I respect John Stewart. He does a lot of good pointing out the hypocrisy of politicians on both sides and does it in a way that appeals to a broad group of people. However, I seem to be getting tired of people trying to make jokes out of very serious issues. Bombing citizens, Al Quaeda affiliates or otherwise, is not something that should be joked around about. These memos coming out are basically laying the standard for excuses to kill citizens without a trial. The Constitution defines treason as "shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort". If bombing/assassinating me (or any other citizen) isn't "levying of war" then we need to amend the Constitution. If it is "levying of war", there is only one punishment for traitors.

If ignorance is bliss, Washington DC must be heaven.

Soft Ball

I think he took it easy on Obama there. He could of went a lot harder.

I Think He Did OK

Effective mockery is his forte & often works better @ delegitimizing our overlords in the eyes of the public.

I want to believe that it's his goal

But all that Obama fellatio he ran last year makes it incredibly hard to. Hundreds of thousands of malinformed people depend on him for their dose of news, and as soon as Jon attacks the next republican to speak ill of Dear Leader, they'll completely forget any implication Jon's made about him being our Murderer in Chief.

Thanks Fonzdrew

I don't have cable and your weekly judge updates are always appreciated as is this.

Imminent means not imminent rather a broader concept of the word.
