The Onion: American Citizens Split On DOJ Memo Authorizing Government To Kill Them

"WASHINGTON—Following the release of a secret Department of Justice memo this week that outlines the administration’s legal justification for killing U.S. citizens, a new Pew Research Center poll has revealed that a majority of Americans are torn over whether they support the government’s right to kill them anywhere at any time without due process.

“On the one hand, I get it—it’s important for the government to be able to murder me and any of my friends or family members whenever they please for reputed national security reasons. But on the other hand, it would kind of be nice to stay alive and have, maybe, a trial, actual evidence—stuff like that,” said visibly conflicted 39-year-old Nashua, NH resident Rebecca Sawyer, who, like millions of other Americans, is split over whether secret federal agents should be allowed to target and assassinate her anywhere on U.S. soil.

“I wouldn’t mind if federal officials blew up other citizens and claimed it was in the name of my safety. But it’s just that when it comes to me, I guess I’d rather not be slaughtered by my own elected officials on charges that never have to be validated by any accountable authority. This is tough.”

While most Americans expressed conflicted feelings regarding the memo, the poll also found that 28 percent of citizens were unequivocally in favor of being obliterated at any point, for any reason, in a massive airstrike."

In order to understand Obama's politics you need to first understand Saul Alinsky's politics. Alinsky's book (RULES for RADICALS) is Obama's play book. I just finished reading (THE OBAMA NATION) copyright in 2008 could have been written today.

To Sam & His Generational Peers~

I don't know how old your parents are, but if they're around my age, their responses are understandable. It's good that you choose to give them another point of view. They most likely tolerate your way of educating them because they want to learn and they love you. You see, we were taught from as long as we can remember to respect authority. They were the adults. They were right. They were smarter because they lived it and/or were educated. We were taught not to question doctors, teachers, police, judges, our parents, anyone else's parents, grandparents nor that little white sugar cube that we stood in line to take.

If they're older & of the generation who survived WWII, they trust and have faith in the U.S government to do what's best for our citizens and country.

So teach them well, open their eyes. Let them realize the truths you are leading them to. My late son and I talked and agreed about a lot of these despicable things that were going on all around us. He provided the reality of it to me and I gave him insight of how it used to be. This helped me vote & talk to others about current events. And it helped him understand why people might not be able to see it yet.

Good Luck and God Bless you and your family.

I laugh or cry ?
It is damn funny though.

Freedom is a byproduct of acceptance - judge not.

I'm all for them killing us

as long as it's for my safety.

Oh, and the politicians who vote yes for this must personally show up at our doors to do it.

Oh, and take DHS's advice and only bring scissors.

Jealous...you beat me too it.

Bravo...Onion kills me every time

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

unfortunately, it's a sad F'd up truth, when The Onion

becomes the canary in the coalmine of political reality in America, today.

I see more oBUSHmaBots rationalizing Obama's crimes, than the most dumbest of the Dodo neoCons during the GWB regime.

Love it. I think we've definitely got some allies over at the Onion. I noticed there was some pretty great stuff back during the election that sounded like it was from a good natured Ron Paulian.

Localism is for people who can still sleep at night even though somebody they don't know in a city they have never been is doing things differently. ("Localism, A Philosophy of Government" on Amazon for Kindle or Barnes and Noble ebook websites)

"No matter how obvious you make a satire, someone will think you are being serious."

I told my Mom about the DOJ memo the other day, and she has come a long way with her political beliefs, but she still has a gut reflex in support of statism from time to time and said "good, screw the terrorists."

I had to point out that even with the Nazi ringleaders, we didn't just go kill them on the spot, we gave them a trial first.

She was like "oh yeah good point I guess you are right." [headslap]

I still love her.

My mom is the same way. She

My mom is the same way. She thinks if someone she perceives as an authority (the government, a doctor, an outspoken man in line at the grocery store etc.) says or does something, it must be for the greater good and therefore it's ok and/or the truth, even if it flies in the face of basic common sense. "Well, they must know something that we don't."

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

My Mom and Grandma gave me the same lip one day

about others "knowing" more than we do.

I retorted with "then if you truly love your children and grandchildren, you would be wise to either educate yourself or stop voting."

That not only shut them up cold. It got them to start paying attention and educating themselves.

Ouch. That could have

Ouch. That could have backfired. I'm glad it didn't.

Yeah, it blows my mind when I get the "they must know more than we do" thing. My thought is "speak for yourself than you very much. I try to keep up with what's going on and certainly still grasp the difference between right and wrong."

I need to try your approach.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

Be careful. It might have only worked in that one case.

You've been warned!

Note though, it wasn't so clear and dry. There was a "repeat" a while later. But I held my ground, and reiterated that I clearly interpreted their voting based on their own admitted ignorance wasn't doing me or my siblings and other family members any favors. We "reconciled" ('cause I think they were initially quite pissed off) and they finally agreed and saw it my way, fessed up to their error, and began to change their behavior. They even tell ME about news items they are catching they never caught before!! (I don't watch MSM, they do, so I rely on them to keep me informed as well, at least to what the MSM propaganda mouthpieces are spewing) And the best part, is they are starting to read between the lines.

I also in our "reconciliation" talk, explained to them that what they mistook for their own ignorance, was merely lack of confidence in their own judgement. (unfortunately, and I know I'll get skewered for this, a trait very common to women in my personal experience - they defer to men all too often.)

I made it clear to them that their judgement was most likely correct. Their gut was accurately warning them the politicians were full of it. They just didn't think they "knew" enough to argue otherwise.

Effectively, they were allowing themselves to be victims of a "confidence game."

I helped them to understand, it was in fact a "con game" and that if they trusted their own judgement and instincts more about world issues, just like they do about every day mundane stuff, then I'd trust them to make the right decisions in the voting booth. I made it clear, I trusted their judgement in other things. What I was upset about was they weren't using it for the more important, long range, bigger picture.

(see what I did there?)

You've hit the nail on the

You've hit the nail on the head regarding my mom too. The underlying issue is lack of confidence in her own judgement.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

The polls are no doubt rigged

I guess they need the illusion. Absolutely diabolical. And for most zonbies, drones are great! - Over there.

lol, have they heard of the free state project?

I highly doubt a Nashua, NH resident would be so conflicted over the issue.

Probably part of the satire, which it appears, went right

over your head.

I thought it was hilarious they used that town.

That, and the fact they used the "Live Free or Die" state to illustrate the story so.

The Onion seems to play into

The Onion seems to play into the false left-right shenanigans, but theres got to be at least a couple liberty minded people there.
