Embracing Chidaho... China is front page headline news in Boise today

The lead story in the state's biggest paper today:
http://www.idahostatesman.com/2013/02/08/2443443/idaho-looks...

"In 2010, a Chinese company’s proposal to develop an area near the Boise Airport created a maelstrom of panic from some Idahoans, resulting in a resolution from the state Republican party questioning the investments. The interest dried up.

The U.S. Department of Commerce and Otter have tried to calm those fears. “Such reassurances have not convinced China’s government or companies that the American door is truly open,” Shambaugh wrote."

Please note the concern is that China knows the door is open. This disgusting article goes on to point out that Chinese wages are higher than ours due to the "one child" policy.

Great, maybe some

Great, maybe some enlightening will take place in the idaho farmlands. Doubt it but man did learn how to fly afterall. Just took a few thousand years. I think King Solomon had a similar saying.

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good things is my religion. Thomas Paine, Godfather of the American Revolution

HIlarious,

Maybe this will be a good place to get gold backed currency? That would be something wouldn't it...

Talk about an great way to take down the dollar, start paying wages in these zones in the yuan...

You might

also remember (or look it up if you don't know) that there is an aquifer just south and east of Boise.

There's a GERMAN owned factory down the road from me

So I guess I need to warn my Jewish friends and learn German too?

Fishy what is your fear with all of this??

Why care so much if China invests in Idaho?

"China invests in Idaho"

Since all businesses in China are, in essence, owned by the government of China, I have a HUGE concern. It is not the business that owns the land in my backyard...it is the Chinese government. If it were private, I personally might not be AS concerned. Part of our state is now, more or less, owned and operated by the Chinese government - wtf?!

What is equally amazing

is that this is such a revelation.

Look into the terms of these "investments."

That deal that they claim is dead...
China was to be given a huge parcel near the airport, where Chinese police would patrol and Chinese workers would take things manufactured in "Idaho" and ship them back to China with NO import / export interference.
They are staking claims around Idaho, GIVING them our minerals, including one of the nation's best supplies of rare earths. They will be allowed to mine these, take them to Little China to process and ship home, then sell back to us, if they want. Right now, they are not exporting rare earth minerals.
I would not be permitted in the China zone. If I went in, I would be arrested and tried in Chinese courts.
Do you have any problem with any of this? Most Idahoans do not. Canada is about to take a HUGE deposit of molybdenum, copper and silver from a county that filed bankruptcy. (CUMO mine in Boise County if you want to fact check me.) The idiot locals are grateful for the handful of peanuts-paying jobs. I tried to get them to go stake claims, but I run into people like you who refuse to look into the details or down the road. Everyone thinks "It's Canada, they are our buddies..." Canadian timber treaties DESTROYED logging, a once vital industry in Idaho. This is one of the few states that still has productive mining, and we are handing that over to foreign nations.

rare earth mineral mining is very toxic.

I read an article or saw a you tube about this. If they intend to do this mining, they must follow US standards. It is really toxic.

LivingTheDream

It is toxic no matter who mines it

Do you not understand how this works?
China stakes a claim - a couple hundred bucks. Then THEY own whatever they dig up, out of OUR soil. Then, when we need them for cell phones, computers, batteries, whatever, we have to go buy it back from China... IF China will sell to us, which right now they will not.

fishy if you tried to walk into ANY factory you would be denied

access and possibly detained by private security or the police. So even if your claim about Chinese police is true, your point is moot.

And as far as I understand it, these are Chinese companies doing LEGAL business here in the USA.

Not just the factory

Anywhere in the "Chinese zone" and you are truly an idiot if you think I can walk into a Toyota plant in the US and get arrested and tried by Japanese courts.
You are clearly choosing to be dense, and I am done with you.

And

No response. Lol I think you said it, Fishy: Here comes Chidaho!

Me being in WA and my in-laws in Post Falls, this is a little too close to home. Thanks for the Cumo reference, too. I'm gonna use that info at the next town hall meeting/letter to reps. I'm gettin' tired of these letters, though.

Lima-1, out.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

lmAo, Fishy!!

Chidaho... lol! I'll have to remember that one. :)
