if i accept grant money to repair my home after hurricane sandy?
That grant money is money that will be spent on fixing your home instead of bombing innocent civilians around the world.
Sooner or later those federal reserve notes are going to be worth nothing anyways. Like others have said, they tax you with what should be illegal taxes; time to collect damages.
Have you paid taxes? What were the supposed reasons for you and everyone else to have to pay those taxes, aside from the usual BS excuse of maintaining roads? To help out the less fortunate as well? Are you in that category in need of assistance? Look at it as if ALL the different kinds of taxes that you and your family have paid on a daily basis are actually insurance policy payments. Now collect on the insurance that you've been forced to pay against your will all this time. Hopefully that makes you feel a little less guilty.
Nevermind - I just saw what pawnstorm wrote - AND DITTO THAT.

Pawnstorm below would have us yelling to the rooftops about how wrong the gubbermint is then when we get a chance to show that we're principled and it's well within our ability to do so, by choice, we fail. If enough people did those stupid moves, this whole movement would be washed up in no time.. we'd lose ANY chance to sway truth seekers to our side.
I have to use their money system..
I have to pay taxes or spend the rest of my life going in and out and right back in prisons if I didn't pay taxes.
I am working towards ending my tax debt and setting up my retirement by saving money and bringing my economic footprint down to almost nothing, relatively speaking. DO we need to live in a 3br house? nope.. Do I need a new car? Nope.. so on and so on..
I'll be building a little shack in the woods not soon enough and the government can kiss my ass while I STILL have the comforts that everyone else has.
We don't need 95% of the junk we buy.

EVERYBODY just stop fighting it the way we were and fight it another way - TAKE EVERYTHING THEY OFFER SUCH AS:
Federal grant money to repair your home,
Federal grant money for education,
Federal unemployment (not paid for like state unemployment is),
Socialist Security disability,
Federal student loans,
Federal business loans,
Federal home loans (Fanny Mae - Freddie Mac),
Earned income tax credits,
National Endowment for the Arts money,
and any other federal progrmas being offered.
Look at it this way...We TRIED
"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
just feels so dirty like the union i am part of
freedumb is not free!
Maybe this will help.
Of course, your insurance company is supposed to cover this - not the government.
But maybe they're not - or maybe you had no insurance so...
I presume you've paid federal income taxes, Socialist Security, Medicare etc all your life.
These are all immoral and unconstitutional theft of the fruits of your labors - your very lifeblood itself is taken from you.
Now CONSIDER the billions upon billions of our tax dollars our government earmarks to GIVE AWAY to foreign nations each and every year. BILLIONS AND BILLIONS.
THAT is as IMMORAL as it gets.
Just consider it is just getting back some of what they've stolen from you.
NOW HERE is the kicker...
The only way this country will ever learn that socialism fails is to PILE ON and help it fail.
Look at it this way...We TRIED
We tried with all our hearts, souls and wallets to get an honest and moral men elected.
We would never have asked the government for anything if only they would have LEFT US ALONE.
But they have bastardized our Constitution and turned America into a dependent, socialist, welfare/warfare state.
And try as we might, we were called nuts, kooks, idiots, Paultards, uncaring nutjobs, uncompassionate, selfish people.
So let's play their game and "LET IT BURN."
In the meantime, brace yourself for the eventual, inevitable fall.
Purchase and save some precious metals - the more the better, and position yourself to withstand the collapse when it happens.
You are not a hypocrite if you appraoach it this way.
I hope this helps.
They are planning and executing an economic collapse. They have lied, cheated, stolen money from you your whole life, you need to look out for you right now.
Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.
and i agree just struggling withreality
who was it taken from? could they afford it? receiving stolen property-how do you feel about that? or was it just magically created by the Fed and makes all the rest on the money worth that much less? diluting the value of not only your own money but everyone elses too. How would you feel if someone else was in your position?
Don't sweat it.
Just beware that government benefits usually come with additional strings and penalties (heartaches) attached; that is if you ever get through the mountain of paperwork required to apply for it.
hard to explain to my kids
The faster we utilize the system FORCED upon us, that has ruined the market and the profitability of the individual, the faster people will realize that the system is broken, and the sooner we can dismantle it.

they can spend on war.
another way to look at it
...allowed to keep ALL the fruits of you labor...you'd probably have savings to cover it; and charity for your neighbors who may not have been prepared...
The system is a mess...
Get all the government money you can, the faster we run this train off the cliff, the faster we can rebuild. I am afraid that at this point there will be no turning the ship around, only running it out to it's full destruction and rebuilding from the ground up.

Perhaps your insurance company is dragging its feet in hopes you will take the grant and leave them alone. Read your policy, hold them to it.
I read a lot of DP threads... I haven't seen you request help on this forum yet; you have work to do before you take people's stolen funds for your benefit.
I personally can't afford to give you money, but my wife and I will give you free labor (we're handy)if you can accomodate our dogs and us and you are not too far from Philadelphia (too far is relative, let me know where you are.)
I'm serious, I appreciate your dilemma and the ease at which one could ignore his principles out of convenience (as some here are trying to convince you to do.)
I think one who would put himself out there for critism is worth helping. Those who encourage you to take the grant, are not. Do this without the grant, it is doable.
You my friend, are a true libertarian.
something unearned (like an offered help) is not a Libertarian principle if you are guided by: living without sacrificing oneself for others or accepting sacrifices from others to oneself.
You are probably confuse Amish or other collective brotherhood or fratenal love with Libertarian individualism. Free stuff is free stuff - unearned.
"living without sacrificing oneself for others"?
Parents sacrifice for their children everyday, that's wrong in your 'libertarian' book?
Who's to say it wasn't 'earned'? Random acts of kindness don't exist in libertarianland? Libertarians wouldn't help an old lady cross the street because she didn't earn that assistance?
We are here to do good - a man should be known for his good works, and if we can't do good, then we should avoid doing any evil. But to intentionally avoid doing good when the opportunity arises is to deny one's very self from experiencing the joy of selflessness.
This is the first time I've ever seen libertarianism explained as a selfish, self-absorbed state of being.
You've just earned a downvote from me.
If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
As individuals we still find compassion for each other and our children no matter the label. If there are any insensitive libertarians out there, I certainly haven't met them.
It's not like the government has ever gathered cash by setting up a voluntary fund raiser. Every nickle you might accept as a 'gift' from government was taken from another with the barrel of a gun pointed to their head.
Just the other day, a very liberal friend of mine sent me a text. He was shocked to hear that Dr Paul forfeited his congressional retirement plan. He commented that if other congressional members actually practiced what they preached as Dr Paul had, this country would be in far better shape. Even he, being very liberal, could see that.
I don't think you are a hypocrite. Think about how much of your hard-earned money you've paid in taxes over the years. I rather see it go to you than overseas to kill people.
The bottom line is that the US government, for political reasons, has given billions to NJ. It's a done deal. I say take some of your money back.
Nonetheless, no one else has the right to make that call when others are forced to contribute. If you wish to get your checkbook out to make your point, I wouldn't find a problem with that. But no one has the right to use force to extract from one to give to another, or to decide whether it's OK or not.
I think you vote for everyone and every law to get away from a welfare state. That said, until we move out from under a welfare state, fact is, we live in one.
Lets say you found yourself in a court room, charged with a crime. As the judge walks in to take his seat, he looks down on his desk to find a plate of a couple fresh baked cookies. The judge immediately questions those in the courtroom as to the origin of the cookies. You raise your hand and inform the judge your mother baked these cookies herself and you thought it would be a kind gesture to share a few with His Honor. Now, a small plate of cookies can't really be construed as a bribe, especially when offered openly, so we can put that accusation aside. What will the judge do? Will he accept this simple gift that could be found as a complimentary treat practically anywhere?, or will he accept? Let's say the judge accepts. What if later this judge will find you guilty? What if there's a sentence to be imposed? The judge will find himself reflecting on the simple plate of cookies he accepted. It would be nearly impossible for a judge to pass an objective sentence having accepted the smallest gift. This is why something like this isn't tolerated.
How can one accept something from government and remain objective? It's simply not possible, no matter what folks may try to tell themselves. A person with shallow morality might try to suggest otherwise. And then there are the hypocrites who actually bring more harm to the cause than good.
This is the biggest reason why so many convince themselves that a 'benevolent' government really isn't so bad. They've all stood in line at some time in their life for a slice of free cheese that they will never truly repay. They will never be able to judge the system objectively.
That would be entirely true if this were a court with a respect for the rule of law. But it's not. So let me be the first with shallow morality to suggest otherwise. You're still thinking this is a problem of the welfare state, but it's a actually a symptom of the warfare state. The disaster relief is not the consequence of a government's misplaced virtues. They're not trying to get votes or justify their existence. They are tyrants that are trying to conquer the people. They are trying to bribe up some muscle so that they can retain power and turn the people into slaves. It's a return to the feudal system and they need the mob onside to steer the peasants. You can't take some high road here. There isn't one. It's all bad. If he could take all the money and burn it, we'd all be better off.
There is no high road here. Part of the problem with the courts is that they compromise objectivity by receiving a fat check from one governing body or another.
One person compromising principle in exchange for a payoff won't bring the system down, but very likely bring that person down.
Had Dr Paul compromised his constitutional beliefs a single time while in office, his recent campaign would not have enjoyed the traction it did. Perhaps Dr Paul should have taken the payoff a long time ago and then used those funds to fight the system or just to sabotage it? Nope. It doesn't work.
