Lets not over think this people
OF course they take the bolts out.
Been doing it for a very long time.
There is no need to have an operable weapon in a parade- plain and simple. This is prudent firearm safety. Forget an intentional shooting - accidents happen - no need to take a chance.
If they could - the Secret Service would probably want the local cops disarmed too.
Let's not forget - it was a Marine that took out JFK - they have reason to be nervous - lol.
I Don't Recall
Taking the bolt or firing pin out of my rifle during any parades or retirement ceremonies, not SOP in my opinion.

How many times were those parades in front
of the president?
Hell, many times when a president just comes on base all weapons are secured in the armory and not allowed to be checked out until the president leaves.
And I wouldn't go bragging about showing a total disregard for gun safety.
Ceremonial and parade weapons are not supposed to be operable - it is just common sense.

Always carried the weapon I qualified with, always observed safety, keep it pointed down range, etc.
Perhaps this is the new standard with a ceremonial or parade prop.

I will concede to your point
if you can explain to me where down range in a parade is?
LOL
Safety in general, not f'n around with a weapon. In a parade, don't point your rifle at people (down range).
Bump for your concession.
