Poll: Americans Still Approve of Drone Strike Program

Approval rate has grown over past poll taken last year

Despite renewed controversy over the United States' secret drone strike program in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia, a new poll shows that a majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle support the program.

More people currently approve of the program than in July of last year, according to the PEW Research Center poll conducted over the weekend. Last year, 55 percent of American approved of U.S. drone attacks; now, 56 percent approve. Just 26 percent of Americans disapprove of drone attacks according to the latest poll, compared to 34 percent last year.

The poll found a gender gap in support of the strikes: 68 percent of men approve of drone strikes; just 44 percent of women do.

People on both sides of the political spectrum approve of the strikes, though Republicans are more supportive (68 percent of Republicans approve, compared to 58 percent of Democrats).

on US soil?

will the rating go down when drones start being used against citizens on US soil ?

Dr.Ron Paul's 2002 Predictions

to anyone who approves of drone strikes, i have two questions

1.did you know that you have been approved to be targeted by drones?
the department of homeland security considers ALL americans to be terrorists
2.did you know that you do not have to be doing anything wrong to be targeted by drones?
no proof is needed to target american citizens with drones

Mafia logic.

This poll posed a query devoid of background. What if the following questions preceded the poll's question:

Is the United States' secret drone strike program in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia a result of applying Mafia logic? That is, no courts, no laws, just executive decision: (“He gotta go, go get 'em.” “Ah, boss, we got em!”) Would such 100% trust in one executive be ridiculous? Of course this land of ours runs on checks and balances. 1/3rd trust for the White House, 1/3rd for interpretation (judicial) and 1/3rd for rule of law (legislative) all converging in decisions. Would you accept the “if we don't get 'em now, they gonna kill again” flawed reasoning, or would you prefer to just let the “terror person” step foot in the USA, and then destroy 'em! Do you approve of keeping on policing the world? Schools, roads, factories, public works are all disintegrating, but are we just jerking around the world creating more “terror people?” Is trying to kill a real bad person, and killing many others in the attempt crazy? Does the other 2/3-rds of the constitution's delineation need to aggressively take their responsibilities back?

Now please tell me if you support the United States' secret drone strike program in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia?

I wonder how many Americans

I wonder how many Americans would support drone strikes if they were on the receiving end. IMO, if we can legally use drones to bomb other countries then they can use them to strike us -- it is all a matter of how you legally define terrorism.

When drone strikes replace traffic tickets then people will care

Nobody cares until it affects them personally.

Have they polled on support

for drone strikes of American 16 year old boys?

Cause that happened and I don't think many people know about it. The corporatist media is complicit.

Freedom - Peace - Prosperity

I think the fact is...

...that 16 year old boy did not " look " like the idea of an " All American Boy " with dark skin and a " weird name " and therefor it's OK. Sad yes, but OK. I have found in my experiences that people tend to side with those that look like them. Just a thought.

You are right. When I have pointed this out, the response was, 'he obviously did something horendous and the president was acting for our best interest. It's better safe than sorry'. People have become so warped that I don't even recognize our country any more.

I actually had someone

Tell me that he shouldn't have had a terrorist father. Since he did it was justified. I don't know how to argue with such ignorance.

Ron Paul convert from the Heart of Dixie

There is no way to argue with ignorance.

The only success that I have had in waking people up is with those looking for cause/solutions and truth as I have. The ones who are molded and set in their ways have no chance at all at seeing reality, even when it is perfectly layed out in front of them.

The youth generation has a very slim chance, if they will open their minds and ears to even listen. If they do not, it will come down to 1,000 years of peace [thought control and slavery], if one believes in Revelations.

I hope that all is well with you and your family, Angie :-)

I'm not buying

what 'they're' selling!! Who'd they poll--the military industrial complex and/or manufacturers of drones?? How come I have not ever met one single person who took any of these controversial polls?

According to the article:

"...the poll measured the opinions of more than 1,000 adults..."

1000 adults??? Yeah, okay...

For what it's worth, I was not polled and I do not approve.

Funny coincidence. I don't, either.

Everyones entitled to a "fair" trial! This is one of the things that the founders mandated.

Well, I take it most of the guys they polled live in bunkers 200 feet underground and don't care much about getting any sun in the future.

I think they more than likely

I think they more than likely polled a bunch of facists in a MSM board room.

I stand corrected.

I stand corrected. Your explanation makes much more sense than mine.

I'm inclined to side with those who think the poll is in error

I really doubt that many people are behind this activity.

Are there any really good web developers who can help build a genuinely trustable and incorruptable poll/info/debate site? I've pitched this before but no one wanted to step up and help build it. It could really make a big difference to our cause as well as make some solid income.

Not sure how to take this

Does the lack of response mean no one has the ability, no one thinks it's a good idea or no one cares?

I'm not surprised. The people

I'm not surprised. The people in favor of drone strikes believe it keeps our soldiers out of harm’s way. What they don't understand is the nature of "collateral damage". I’m sure if the damn media told the truth and released information on who the innocent victims were the number of people in favor of strikes would be smaller.

Propaganda is a powerful tool

I used to wonder how it was possible for an entire nation of otherwise rational, civilized human beings to be convinced that it was perfectly OK to barbecue their neighbors and turn them into soap. I understand now of course, Those people didn't have the internet, most didn't even own phones in those days, they depended on the state owned media to tell them the truth, it was the only source of information they had. Joseph Goebbels was a genius, and managed the flow of information brilliantly. He changed their perception of reality with propaganda, the way they reasoned, the way they interacted with their world was flawed because the information they based their reasoning on was manipulated.

Poll: Americans still stupid

Pretty much the same thing.

I don't trust polls

Polls are BS. It's just another tool the media uses to program the drones watching their fabricated news channel or website. I find it very hard to believe a majority of Americans approve of drone strikes. I have yet to ever hear anyone offer support for the program and I know people from all walks of life with different political views. Where are these Americans that so approve of the Drone program? The only people I hear voicing support are politicians and talking heads. Flush the bogus polls and pay no mind!

majority of germans loved

majority of germans loved hitler to. This doesn't say much other then americans love tyranny, Bush/Obama 2016 Illegal Wars/Death Drones, the ticket for sheep and tyranny lovers!

Ron Paul 2016

C'mon! Everyone else loves drones

so why don't you??

Drones are in style.

They're trendy.

You didn't see the new WEP Poll? It had approval ratings for the drone program at an all time low with less then 33% approval rating. Over 50% disapproval rating and 17 undecided. The poll found that men wanted to end the program more than women did by a margin of +10%.
What I wrote is absolute nonsense, much like the PEW Poll. Most of these polls are fraudulent, but you can easily fool people by throwing together some fancy numbers that claim one thing over another. Stop believing in the propaganda! Vast majority of Americans are sick and tired of wars.

I'd bet most americans

would approve of Drone strikes on criminals in the US.

The american people are , as a group, viscous. Mostly, They are too cowardly to do the violence themselves, but they are more than happy to have the state do it. How many law and order republicans do you know, how many nanny state democrats. They are more than happy to have the state act as their agent to hurt anyone who disagrees wiuth them.
