Pope resigns: Peter Turkson - 'Peter The Roman' - reveals vision for the Church and 'alternative lifestyles'

The cardinal who could become the first black pope said Tuesday that the Roman Catholic Church faces grave challenges in remaining relevant in the modern world even as he laid out a conservative vision of how to deal with society's "alternative lifestyles".

Cardinal Peter Turkson, a 64-year-old Ghanaian prelate, is the bookmaker's early favourite to succeed Pope Benedict XVI.
He told The Daily Telegraph Tuesday that his biggest challenge, should he be elected, would be to maintain an orthodox Catholic doctrine while "at the same time knowing how to apply it so that you do not become irrelevant in a world that has continuous changes".
Cardinal Turkson, who holds one of the most important jobs in the Roman Curia and has been repeatedly promoted by Pope Benedict, was quick to take a conservative line on gay marriage and other "alternative lifestyles".
"We need to find ways of dealing with the challenges coming up from society and culture," he said, adding that the Church needed to "evangelise", or convert, those who had embraced "alternative lifestyles, trends or gender issues". He added: "We cannot fail in our task of providing guidance."

Who gave Peter Turkson

the name "Peter the Roman?" I don't see the translation, unless people are assuming that he is part of that prophecy.

I may be mistaken, but I'm

I may be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain there have been a few black/African descent popes in the Church's older days.

Slightly off subject, but,

Veterans Today has a very interesting piece about the Popes resignation and the Knights of Malta, a group I had never heard of before.
Worth the read.

What a coincidence it would be.

What a coincidence it would be if America's first black president would be the one presiding over the final destruction of a country that doesn't follow its constitution in favor of progressive views while the first black pope would be presiding over the final destruction of a religion that doesn't follow Scripture in favor of progressive views. I could go into this more but I don't want to be labelled a racist.

GOD does not change and the fact that this cardinal thinks that the "church" should change with the times is proof of his antichrist tendencies.

Right on the button

and how ironic that would be with what you stated. I don't think anything you said could be labeled racist as it is actually happening (provided the Cardinal does become Pope) and not realy conjectural.

"I could go into this more"

That would be a great conversation on end times, the Bible and more.

"GOD does not change and the fact that this cardinal thinks that the "church" should change with the times is proof of his antichrist tendencies."

That is the nature of the catholic church or what it's become. However, I'm sure there are very strict catholics that follow scripture. But when the Pope deviates like this....yea. Antichrist tendencies out the yin-yang.

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
