*** Daily Paul Needs Our Help ***
As in a thread mentioned last night here at Daily Paul, when something happens or a big event, DP slows down quite a bit.
I'm no server hardware wiz, but have encountered this in a forum I ran a while ago. If it's the same issue I dealt with, it's not particularly a bandwidth issue as mentioned last night, but a process issue. What this means is so many request are being asked for at the same time, the server can't process them all. Like trying to get 100 heads of cattle through a 20 foot wide opening at the same time.
Regardless of the reason for the slowness, we all value DP. Michael Nystrom has graciously set up and maintains DP for us.
It's time to kick down some cash to help DP keep up with the demand you and I are placing on the server. It really sucks to come here and the site not responding.
Michael has some ads, an Amazon affiliate, and the "I Support Ron Paul" posters: http://www.isupportronpaul.com/poster-1.html . These are all ways Michael is generating money for DP's expenses.
It's obviously not enough. I can't swing the cash for the poster, but did ask Michael for his Paypal address to I could send some cash.

I have so far resisted asking for donations, as the site does pull in some money. However, for the upgrades needed, it isn't nearly enough. The blog's "worth" as indicated on the little ad below is some theoretical number - there is no way I could ever sell it for that. The chatroom service actually helps the DP, as the servers are not mine - they're located on a third party. I suppose I should put all of this together and make a post about it. Just haven't had the time yet...

Trouble making payment
Credit card #1 was refused. Credit card #2 was not rejected but I was directed to my Paypal account. But my paypal account is restricted, meaning I can withdraw but not use it to pay for something right now. I have received numerous conflicting emails from Paypal in the past, it's apparently impossible to reach them by phone, so I may withdraw my big $54 or whatever it is and close the account just so they'll stop bothering me and this won't come up again!
But I didn't give up. I went back and entered Credit card #2 again. This time it was rejected too. Which I don't understand because I double checked for typos & both cards have plenty of credit left. My only recent big purchases have been for Ron Paul radio spots in Michigan and Nevada, but I used different card for those.
I'm heading out but will check back later for suggestions.

MN is making money from this site. Look at all of the advertising going on here. Scroll to the very bottom of the page and see the dollar amount that this site is worth....$493,972.50!
I would imagine the value of
I would imagine the value of the sites worth is based on views and possibly the number of outside links to it. That hardly means Michael has half a mil. in his pocket or some one is willing to pay the half a mil. for the site because of some third party value rating.
As for the advertising, do you know how much Michael is charging them for their banners? I am willing to bet you don't. Quite a few of those ads are offering inexpensive RP gear. It would be my guess Michael isn't quite charging normal web rates for advertising... although he may.
Do you know how much it costs to run DP? I ran a forum with an average of 157 users on at one time in it's hayday. It was a PHP hog of a forum. Our monthly costs for the server were $248. DP has FAR more traffic that my forum.
Regardless of all that, do you not feel the slowness of DP sucks? Do you also not think the value you get out of DP is NOT worth $5 to send Michael?
That's cool, the internet needs section 8 website viewers. Next time you roll by a section 8 house and MF the people living there because your tax dollars are paying for their existence... just come to DP and be the pot calling the kettle black.

And the chat room was blazing tonight too. I have not even been on here till now. I could not get any articles or post anything so I just logged off at about 6 o'clock EST.. I went to look in on the chats and it is nothing but a bunch of idiots cussing and throwing bs back and forth, a big waste.
