Prospect of Rand Paul presidential run strikes terror in GOP establishment

"Inside the cozy enclaves of GOP bonhomie—hunkered at the tables of see-and-be-seen Washington restaurants—Republican leaders are sourly predicting a party-busting independent presidential bid by a tea-party challenger, like Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in 2016.
To them, the GOP apocalypse looms larger than most realize. Dueling State of the Union rebuttals and Karl Rove’s assault on right-wing candidates are mere symptoms of an existential crisis that is giving the sturdiest Republicans heartburn.
And yet, the heart of the matter extends beyond the GOP. My conversations this week with two Republican officials, along with a Democratic strategist's timely memo, reflect a growing school of thought in Washington that social change and a disillusioned electorate threaten the entire two-party system."

While listening to Hannity yesterday

he had Ann Coulter on. He opens with "...there was a great response to Obama last night" And Coulter chimes in "yes, Rand Paul was great". Hannity was really expecting her to mention the establishment tool Rubio. He was really offguard. Funny as hell.

I read an article about how Rand Paul made waterboy Rubio look establisment.

I like that "Rubio the Waterboy"

I heard that

That was great.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

It is very fitting

he carries water for the establishment and even has water props during speeches.

Oh I wish I knew more how to make a youtube. Rework scenes in the Waterboy with Rubio. Like the on where he talks about H2O like a moron. LOL. Now that would be funny!

They know that he's not

They know that he's not considering going 3rd party.

They only invented that narrative to sow division among the rank-and-file in an attempt to create a subconscious desire within them to stay on the plantation (and vote for whoever they're told to) and not vote for 'that guy that might go 3rd party and make us lose again.'

It's about the only tactic they can use against him at this point.

They can't say he's 'too old'
They can't compare him to Barney Fife
He doesn't have that 'crazy uncle' vibe

The only other tactic they've got is to start calling him a 'radical'

And that won't work either.

Only the acceptance of the truth can defeat systemic evil.

Indeed

This is just like all those articles in the past which suggested that RP might run 3rd party. What they really fear is a liberty-candidate playing and winning within the GOP. Whereas they'd like nothing better than for us marginalize ourselves by going third party/indy where we could be safely ignored. Taking over the GOP has been and must continue to be our plan.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

Not His Schtick

Rand has been doing everything possible to play ball with the Republicans. He is less likely to go third party than Ron Paul. This article looks like a wish from those who want to diminish his strength, which would also diminish the strength of the Republicans.

yes...

But many here consider him anti-Paul.

There seems to be a real need for reconciliation.

Again; Do we stay or do we go (L)?

I have a feeling they will

I have a feeling they will come around.

They would be much more terrified if Ron indicated a run again.

Oh, what joy I would have if that were to happen!

on stossel the other day

he said: "...maybe i'll run again sometime"

am i the only one who caught this?

Ron Paul In That Interview Said...

... "maybe I will" in reference to running for president in the first place because he was sarcastically saying that it was all a dream and he should do it.

"Reed sketches a hypothetical

"Reed sketches a hypothetical scenario" about Rand running in the Republican primary unsuccessfully and then, subsequently, running independently.

Won't happen! Sore loser laws in many states will prevent Rand from doing this, the same as his father. This guy Reed is just making ill-informed speculation. Ron Paul himself acknowledged the fruitlessness of running third party when one has already participated in Republican primaries. For better or worse, Rand Paul is going Republican all the way. Rand is being advised by people who learn political strategy from Karl Rove's Leadership Institute. As evidenced by Rand's political speak, he listens to these people. He won't go for an independent run against the advice of his strategists.

If the powers that be in the gop

Think Rand is going to bolt the party and run third party - I don't think they have been paying attention. Rand is building coalitions of support - not tearing them down.

Yes, BUT

the THREAT of an independent run makes them sweat - nice!

Hope you're doing well Zak!

Life is good!

And whoever runs 3rd party/independent in 2016 - I have a plan to make the debates F&E hosts massive compared to what we pulled off last year! Who is the robot?:)

The Voting Majority Needs More Work

While I cannot see any scenario's where Rand would go third party, I would like to see a third party President sooner than later. However, unless the media begins to make that idea become acceptable soon, then the voting majority will not give us a third party President in the foreseeable future.

There is another way. Lot's of money. One hundred billion dollars (1/10 trillion) expertly spent would be enough to convince the voting majority to give us a third party President.
