Sharp Contrast Between Rand and Rubio SOTU Responses (TNA)

There was a sharp contrast between Rand Paul's Tea Party Express response to Obama's SOTU and Marco Rubio's official GOP response. Rand Paul used math, while Marco Rubio limited himself to pat clichés deployed to drive up polling numbers.

The question is: Have Republicans learned anything since the Romney debacle?

Real quick, why...

...are Rubio and Rand offering their opinions in a formal and public way?

Is this what everybody does, or anybody who wants to? Perhaps dozens of Repubs offered similar speeches, but we're just looking at two of dozens?

Yeah, Rand is

a natural born citizen. Rubio is not. I never want to live through that issue again. Can we just get it on the table and quit pushing Rubio for 16. This cannot happen.

Just heard

I just heard Rand Paul on NPR. He was asked if there was any difference in his response for the Tea Party and Rubio's for the Republican Party. Rand's response to that question: "Our responses were complementary."

Since Rand himself couldn't seem to come up with any specific difference, it's not clear how far one should want to go to try to find one.

Rand is not going to bash Rubio

It is not smart politics and Rand knows the probability is high that Rubio wil be the next GOP nominee.
