Rangel also says that “if a president can’t convince the Congress to support the draft than he should not be bringing the question of war in front of the Congress or the American people.'”

Many of you are too Young to Remember Vietnam
But a generation of young American boys who were one day sitting in study hall, suddenly found themselves three short months later, stumbling through the jungle with a rifle in their hands. TENS of THOUSANDS of them came home MANGLED and DEAD in black plastic bags. And for what?
If any of the big, bad "liberated" fems out there wanna join the military VOLUNTARILY and go get 'em a big double-handful of carnage, then so be it. But, no REAL man would ever suggest FORCING our young ladies into this. We should cherish them to such a degree that the thought itself is simply unthinkable.

A side note: Many young men were forced to give up good jobs when they were drafted .

As a federal employee, and a man, I was required to provide proof of signing up for the Selective Service before I could be employed by the Government.
Women aren't given the same treatment. That is discrimination.
Make women sign up for Selective Service to become Government employees too or deny them employment, and make it retroactive. It should also be a requirement of all men and women that wish to be elected to Congress or as President/Vice President to show they signed up for it.
THAT MEANS NANCY PELOSI AND BARBARA BOXER AND HILLARY CLINTON SHOULD SIGN UP !!!!!!!!!

Rangel is an ancient leftover of the New Deal days. He is 82 years old. He has been introducing legislation to restore the draft for the entire 20+ years he has been in congress. In his dreams, Roosevelt will still be president. Nobody ever takes him seriously. The defense department and defense lobby are both totally against a reinstatement of the draft. In that way, oddly, our interests are aligned with Big Defense.

I think the American people or the people in his district should draft Mr. Rangel, and I'll personally give him my old military rifle, to protect himself, and I don't care if he is an old man, let him see exactly what real military life is like first hand !

Rangel introducing legislation on the draft is perpetual, he does it every year. Why this democrat from my state does this an example of senility. He and his children (if any) are too old to get drafted. And unless you get your passports ASAP, your love one may be stuck here in this crumbling country.
I fought hard to end the draft
While I never would support the draft, maybe if people were afraid of being drafted, they would take a better look at what they were being drafted to do, such as fight special interest wars to rob money from the working class and give it to the wealthy.
But I do not ever see the draft coming back. They will use the "dream act" or something like that to get people to fight the undeclared wars. I never thought they would be able to think of something worse than the draft, but they sure did.

Make all soldiers voluntary. No war should be fought without the support of the people. Correct me if I'm wrong but we didn't need a draft to raise an army to fight WWII. If the cause is just people will rise to the occasion. Look at the last draft instituted because of a war started with a false flag operation.. hmmmm

IMHO, if we did not have a draft for WWI, we would not have had a WWII, because neither side had the resources to continue fighting. WWI would have ended in a truce, had it not been for the USA entering that war. Without the WWI draft they would not have had enough volunteers to win.
I was unaware of the drafts
I was unaware of the drafts for WWI an WWII thank you for the correction. I was asked to interview a soldier from WWII while in school years ago. The man I interviewed volunteered. I dislike the idea of a draft given that they implemented it in Vietnam. The fact that they used a false flag to get us into that mess only to draft citizens to fight a war based on a lie disgust me.
