Collapse: A Generation of Gamers Are Now A Legion of Drone Operators

Killer robots must be stopped, say campaigners
'Autonomous weapons', which could be ready within a decade, pose grave risk to international law, claim activists

"In America they are already training more drone pilots than real aircraft pilots, looking for young men who are very good at computer games. They are looking at swarms of robots, with perhaps one person watching what they do."

What’s it like to pilot a drone? A lot like 'Call of Duty'
"Teenagers raised on "Call of Duty" and "Halo" might relish flying a massive Predator drone -- a surprisingly similar activity.
Most gamers are over qualified -- often bored -- with the transition from gaming to actual drone piloting."

These things are not science

These things are not science fiction; they are well into development," said Sharkey. "The research wing of the Pentagon in the US is working on the X47B [unmanned plane] which has supersonic twists and turns with a G-force that no human being could manage, a craft which would take autonomous armed combat anywhere in the planet.

We saw this one coming.

Way back when we had a little arcade, about 1980. The "games" often had a military theme, even then, and now it is MUCH worse.
When this came out, we laughed, but we said "The military. That is who will place that ad."

What if they already are and just don't know it?

I have wondered how hard it would be, especially with the new online gaming genre, to locate the best players, swap their virtual reality experience for an augmented reality experience and make them actually carry out killings on foreign soil. My guess is that it is quite easy and not outside the realm of possibility. So next time you're killing the enemy on x-box take a second to wonder if you really just murdered a child overseas.

Can I unread that now?

That is not a thought I had had, and I was just fine without it...
