Paul Craig Roberts on the Hagel nomination

Rand Paul may have had very good reasons of his own to block Hagel, but the problem is the company that action keeps... It leaves the appearance of doing exactly what Mr. Roberts describes very clearly here.

The Senate was one vote short to prevent the filibuster

blocking Hagel.

Senator Rand Paul was that one missing vote.

(Harry Reid changed his vote after the vote failed, to make the official tally 2 votes short)

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

If Rand has his own reasons,

I'd like to hear what they are.
