Vermont Gun Control Legislation PendingSubmitted by Star Fourteen on Sun, 02/17/2013 - 14:54
I'm hoping someone with legal or political experience may be able to give advice or assistance on the possibility of pressing criminal charges on the sponsors of the following bills being proposed in the Vermont legislature:
H.124 An act proposing a number of provisions related to firearms regulation
H.125 An act relating to unlawful firearm disposition and firearm safety training
H.243 An act relating to the negligent storage of a firearm
S.95 An act relating to the negligent storage of a firearm
S.94 An act relating to reporting dangerous and mentally ill persons to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System
H.184 an act relating to municipal authority to adopt, amend, and repeal charters without legislative approval
This possibility may arise due to the nature of the oath as follows and in particular the last line:
You do solemnly swear (or affirm) that as a member of this Assembly, you will not propose, or assent to, any bill, vote or resolution, which shall appear to you injurious to the people, nor do nor consent to any act or thing whatever, that shall have a tendency to lessen or abridge their rights and privileges, as declared by the Constitution of this State; but will, in all things, conduct yourself as a faithful, honest Representative and guardian of the people, according to the best of your judgment and ability.
Under the pains and penalties of perjury.
Any opinion on the chances of this? I am a member of both the NRA and GOA and will be calling them when their offices open on Tuesday to see if they have any insight or support to offer.
Thanks for any and all suggestions!
