Vermont Gun Rights Rally Saturday Feb 23rd!Submitted by Star Fourteen on Sun, 02/17/2013 - 15:20
My apologies if this is a duplicate posting as I haven't posted in some time and I'm not very good at this hi-tech stuff!
There is a gun rights rally this Saturday, February 23rd in Montpelier.
Where: In front of the State Capital Building
When: 12 noon to 2:00pm
NO GUNS PLEASE. They are prohibited on state capital grounds and discouraged by the sponsors of the event. Vermonters respond best polite persuasion!
Why is this important: For those of you who don't know, Vermont currently has the least restrictive gun control laws in the entire nation (yes, we even beat out Texas.) We also have one of the lowest rates of gun related crime. For that reason we are frequently held up by the NRA, GOA and other organizations as the "Poster Child" for gun rights. So though this is a state issue, it has national repercussions if this model is lost.
There were about 200 attendees at the recent pro gun control rally. If we can get 2x, 3x or 4x that number, this will send a powerful message. Not only Vermonters but our neighbors in New Hampshire, New York and Massachusetts I think have a stake in this as well.
For anyone who would like to look up more information on the proposals the legislation is as follows:
H.124 An act proposing a number of provisions related to firearms regulation
H.125 An act relating to unlawful firearm disposition and firearm safety training
H.243 An act relating to the negligent storage of a firearm
S.95 An act relating to the negligent storage of a firearm
S.94 An act relating to reporting dangerous and mentally ill persons to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System
H.184 an act relating to municipal authority to adopt, amend, and repeal charters without legislative approval (so that cities such as Burlington can impose their own gun control laws.)
Hope to see you on Saturday.
Be sure to dress for artic wind!
