Happy Presidents Day! George Washington is my favorite President. Who is yours?

My favorite President was George Washington. Its a hard call for me because Thomas Jefferson represents a philosophy I admire the most.

George Washington represents strength. Strong enough to resist the temptation of power. That is a strength rarely seen in powerful men. Through his strength and the writings of all of our founders we ended up with the most creative, generous, prosperous, caring society in the history of the world.

Over the course of our history, by using those founding principles we freed slaves, women, children and minorities. Regardless if our founders were slave owners then, they created a society that I love dearly now.

America represents the greatness of the human spirit. Able to speak, worship and express yourself freely. Lets declare peace and bring our kids home.

Who is your favorite President and why?

John Tyler was great. In the book "Forgotten Conservatives in American History" by Clyde Wilson& Brion McClanahan (McClanahan highly trustworthy, a professor in Tom Woods' Liberty Classroom) they have a whole chapter on him and another guy in that era. He ticked off his party (The Whigs) left and right cause he wouldnt toe the party line. I grade presidents by era myself, for the Founding Era George Washington for refusing to become a King and Tom Jefferson just from his writings, Then John Tyler Pre Civil War, Post Civil War Grover Cleveland, a veto machine, (also RP's fav Pres and the last good Dem) early 20th Century Calvin Coolidge, cut taxes, cut spending, reduced the national debt, No crazy intenventionist wars or fiscally irresponsible programs. and post WW2 i guess Reagan. He expanded the Federal Gov the least, and did stand up to Communism. Anytime you read that a President "Didnt do anything" Normally means the author didnt like that there was no huge socialist programs or spending, or no warmongering.

Clyde Wilson mainly on James Buchanan, but in the first paragraph he says John Tyler was the greatest President in the history of our nation.

Love that book! Also I just finished McClanahan, Gutzman and Woods' history of US before 1877 and I loved the parts of early colonial Virginia and the lectures about John Tyler. Abel Upshur was born only a few miles from where I live.

He freed the slaves.

(DISLIKE AWAY!)

How does one free any slaves

How does one free any slaves by killing hundreds of thousands of people that fought for their sovereignty for the purpose of enslaving millions more who were fed up with the US government?

Quick fix

By instituting involuntary servitude for anyone who couldn't buy their way out.

Ron Paul is the ONLY President...

He did the least damage to our Republic.

Andrew Jackson

He killed the 2nd National Bank!!!

When Fascism goes to sleep, it checks under the bed for Ron Paul!

He was great on economic issues

Ended the national bank, paid off the debt. But not so great on others - e.g., the Trail of Tears.

“It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Jackson was hardly a

Jackson was hardly a President worth considering as the greatest. He did kill the bank, but only out of his own ego, not because of a belief in the nature law of gold money and limited government. He loved government. That's why he threatened to invade South Carolina when they tried to nullify federal law.

Really...

Did I say he was the Greatest? After all, the question asked was about Favorite...
And I can only assume that you were either alive at the time of AJ or you're a spiritual medium that preformed a séance and asked him directly what his motive to kill the bank was...

I am sorry. You did not say

I am sorry. You did not say he was the greatest, that was my mistake.

LewRockwell.com is a great website to search and "The Creature from Jeckyll Island" is a great book with information about the 2nd Bank of the United States and the events surrounding its charter not being renewed.

Who can really know why anyone does anything? You can't know exactly. (Bush might have had a vision from God telling him to invade Iraq, but no one could ever know for sure). But people observe how people act when they do things, what they say, etc. Jackson was a very prideful man, with a hot temper. According to G. Edward Griffin's book, he stormed around the White House during the ordeal angrily mumbling "a den of vipers" under his breath. That leads me to believe he was angry and wanted to end it out of spite, and again, not because he was a believer in the natural economic law of sound money.

Jackson was, however, quite the character.

I did not learn these things

In school...
I'm quite aware of G. Edward Griffin!
Thanks anyway.
