Power
Power is relative. If the few most powerful people allow power to be used to make power abundant, then the few most powerful people are relatively powerless.
If you can't grasp the significance of that maybe this will help:
Power produced into oversupply reduces the price of power while purchasing power increases because power reduces the cost of production.
Electric cars run on solar panels can quickly eliminate the demand for petroleum products (relatively speaking).
One solar panel produces enough power to pay for about 3 solar panels.
Do you understand the significance of that power?
There is no reason on Earth that very rapidly all the electricity demanded by anyone can be produced by solar panels?
1 becomes 2, 2 becomes 4, 4 becomes 16, 16 become 256 and that progress toward abundant electric power is merely 1 solar panel demanded by one person, and that one person buys 2 with the output of 1, on and on.
Electric cars being discredited by criminals and dupes is a confession on their part, people producing or parroting lies.
Just do yourself a little work, for yourself, and add up all the energy consumed by every car now using their brakes. Just imagine how much POWER that is, as all those vehicles are forced to slow down with brakes, and when electric cars replace the petroleum cars in our human future (assuming the criminals don't end all life on Earth with their next scheduled World War) all that POWER lost in forcing those vehicles to slow down is power used to charge batteries in those vehicles. That alone measures the lies that discredit electric cars.
Criminal or dupe, whichever, they confess, and it is past time to stop paying the liars so well for doing such a good job lying.

one solar power barely 'pays' for itself.
give me a break. You need the latest in battery tech to make solar worthwhile. And that would be paint-on nanotech solar. Not that you are speaking out of your energy output zone - I agree with you.
Energy is information - it wants to be free.

Really?
You make your statement and I say offer us a source.
Then I'll say the exact opposite is true and here's my source

The little town where the farm is
was researched, chosen and plotted out to be the biggest apple orchard in the US, and for a while it was. The investors placed an ad, trying to lure workers to the area. They built a little subdivision, and advertised to potential buyers that the community had a huge charging station for their electric cars.
It's a ghost town now.
