Romney with 55% of the vote so far?!! That cannot be!

0 votes

Maybe I should take off the tinfoil hat, but I just don't see Romney getting 55% of the vote. Do I see him winning Nevada? Sure, but over half the vote?

Should be interesting here in AZ

Its the home of John McCain but also Mormon country. I imagine they will draw votes from each other. I hope this gives Ron Paul a chance to finish well. Who knows.

mitt had a very strong showing

Mitt had a very strong showing in NV today. There are a LOT of LDS people in Nevada, so this was to be expected.

However, if we can keep up the trend and Paul can take second place today, that will be the real story of the caucus.

I wonder how many Mormon voters even know

who Romney is, what he stands for or anything else in this race. I would hazard a guess that a good percentage are voting for him because they are told to do so by their leaders. In contrast, probably every single Ron Paul voter knows who he is and why they are voting his way.

Sad, but when you have a collective group or class that can be directed from the top down, it's just hard to beat that sort of organization.

I doubt any church leaders have told anyone how to vote.

I'm a Mormon; we read a statement each year in church about how the church is politically neutral, the church meeting houses are not to be used for political purposes, etc..
That said, you raise a valid point. Mormons aren't necessarily making their own informed decisions. But they are making up their minds themselves. I've discussed Paul with lots of members of the church, and they are usually quick to support him after just discussing the issues and positions.

It's not political

It may not be that Mormons are being "directed" to vote a certain way. The same thing is happening on the Dem side in that blacks are overwhelmingly supporting Obama and women are overwhelmingly supporting Hillary. It's just that people are dumb and vote for reasons other than political.

But it does seem that Mormons are block voting for a Mormon. If decisions were being made based on the issues, you would likely have a closer spread.

Wrong you are

Mormons are not told by "their leaders" to vote any particular way. I have been a local leader in the Mormon church. All politicking is strictly prohibited in our church services. We don't preach sermons about how to vote; we don't allow candidates to speak to our congregations; we don't have voter registration and candidate fairs in our church houses. The policies of the church are purposely and very factually against mixing politics with church attenance and participation.

We are *never* directed "from the top down" to vote or campaign for anyone. Anyone who says otherwise is clueless and bigoted. I am Mormon, my ancestors are Mormon, and I support Ron Paul. See my other post about why Mormons are voting for Romney in droves. It has nothing to do with being told how to vote.

RP2012!

Ron Paul is currently second

Ron Paul is currently second at http://www.nvgopcaucus.com/results

3286 votes to McCain's 3273

Yeah But....

RSK that was last updated 3 hours ago (1:10p.m.).

I've been grabbing

I've been grabbing screenshots for at least two hours. The numbers are pretty much current, I've seen them change.

Now they're at 4039 to 3988. RP is gaining lead over McCain. (Is that how you say it in English?)

The One Good Thing About Mormons...

The one good thing about the Mormons is that they are well aware of the CFR stranglehold on our goverment and its designs at world government, and they oppose it. I don't see Romney if he were elected doing anything seriously to reverse the growth of federal power, but at least one could hope he would not act to advance the CFR's move toward North American Union. Small consulation, I know.

CFR

He is a member of the CFR, what are you talking about?

The overall population

The overall population of mormons is not as relevant as how many of them turn out. If 95% of them show up and bring their whole families, whereas 20% of the other people show up, he's going to win by that large of a margin...

BIG Romney win to be expected

I lived in vegas for 10 years, its all mormon. The city was basically founded by mormons. Its by far the most prevalent religion in vegas.

cant speak for reno area tho.

-bd

Not true. I lived there for 40 Years. It was funded by the

Italian Mafia up until the late 60s when the Mafia was run off and corporations took over. The Mormons had little to do with it, but they are now prevalent in politics. Harry Reid is Mormon, among others. Mormons are not the most prevalent religion, they are only 7% of population statewide. There are Catholics, Protestants, Baptists, Jews, Bahai, Muslims, etc, all living in Las Vegas and Nevada.

Go Ron Paul!

’In accordance with the principles of double-think it does not matter if the war is not real. For when it is, victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, but it is meant to be continuous.’ (George Orwell, 1984)

Mormons were 25% of voters

Mormons were 25% of voters today though according to entrance poll. They went 95% for Romney in this poll. Take them out and you have an almost close race.

Entrance Polling...

...by CNN showed Romney getting something like 95% of the Mormon vote. The Mormons represent about 25% of the Republican vote.

in my voting location romney got 45%

and Paul got 17% in second - Mccain was third with 13%

752 total votes at that location.

Lot's of quotes come to mind...

Washoe hasn't reported yet

Entrance polls say Paul got 31% in Washoe County (Reno) to Romney's 37%. That's double what Paul got in Clark County (Las Vegas) and the rural counties. Washoe is reporting 0% as of now, when Clark is reporting 50% and the state as a whole is reporting 38%, Paul should break his current tie with McCain once Washoe starts reporting. And Romney will fall below 50%.

Stop making sense VF...

it really makes it less fun for the conspiracy nut stories.

On 2nd thought, maybe you should, any uncommiteds visiting this site might think we're alie that if we don't win!

Romney goes up as Paul goes down

RSK It's easy to do when they're stealing votes from the candidate who "hasn't got a shot." The election fraud has truly gotten out of hand, now they aren't even trying to hide it. So you know we're stealing the election through vote fraud, whatcha gonna do about it?

what fraud

how are they stealing votes? I would like to know this can be very serious!!

Same reason Huck won Iowa

If you are a Mormon and you religion is seen as cultic by many people. What better way to make it main steam than by one of your own becoming president.

Unless you have an idea about Mormon history....

... you will not realize why so many Mormons will vote for Romney based on nothing other than his religion.

I am Mormon. My entire family is Mormon. Our ancestors walked cross the plains from Illinois to Utah in the 1840s when we were chased out of Illinois by violent mobs. I support Ron Paul as does my entire family, and we think Romney is a poor representative of Mormonism for the world to see.

But, consider the fact that Mormons have been persecuted ever since their church was founded. First we were chased by mobs out of Ohio, then Missouri, then Illinois, then the feds sent the Army to occupy Utah, then the feds confiscated all of our assets over $50,000 and dissolved our church's legal organization, until we finally cried uncle and were forced to give up significant parts of our religion. All of this happened in the 1880s and 1890s. Some of the Mormons alive today had great grandparents who did prison time for their religion. In Missouri it was legal to kill Mormons by order of the Governor (pro-slavery forces in Missouri did not like the idea of thousands of non-slave-holding Mormons moving into their state, it seemed).

Given this history of persecution, so many Mormons will see nothing other than Romney's religion and see this as our chance to "get back" at the establishment which has so long persecuted us. It is reactionary, I know, but it makes sense when you know the backstory.

Ron Paul has a lot of support among Mormons. In fact, the only other candidate I hear any Mormons I know talking about is Ron Paul. The LDS religion and scriptures state that the Constitution was set up by men appointed by God for the purpose of establishing a uniquely free nation unlike any other in human history, and that form of constitutional government is very important in Mormon religion. Joseph Smith, the founding prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ran for president in 1844 and his platform reads like Ron Paul wrote it.

Don't be mad at us. I make every effort I can to sway LDS voters to RP. And I have yet to meet a Mormon voter who wasn't in agreement with RPs platform once they actually took a look at it.

Likewise, blacks should be voting for RP, but many see Obama as their first realistic chance to get a black prez, so they go with their heart and their group instinct to elect one of their own, over the candidate who is more intellectually supportive of their needs.

Now go convert your Mormon friends to RP; I know I am!

RP2012!

Yeah, but

Yeah, but the polls gave no indication that it would be this kind of landslide.

Polls for Republicans are so screwy

The race is so wide open. The only people I talk to who have their minds made up are Paul supporters.
People say what they will on the phone but when it comes down to it. Religion is big player.
You can imagine allot of different scenario of voter thought when they place there ballot.
Example:
Mormon who may want Paul to win but wants Mitt to place second. They switch vote at the last minute.
When there are 5 choices any poll is difficult. That is one of the reasons I think so many people are still in the race.
They do not want to go head to head with Ron Paul.

Nevada is Morman

so it shouldn't surprise anyone that Romney took it. This fact seems to have been overlooked by many. Idaho will go the same way for the same reason.

NV is only 7% Mormon statewide.

Go Ron Paul!

Same thing with Wyoming

The western part of the state has a lot of Mormons. That is why he won in WY.
