On Point: Farmer Bowman vs Monsanto, and who owns life.

I heard parts of this while driving around yesterday on WBUR, the NPR station based at Boston University. Tom Ashbrook's show On Point is always a pleasure to listen to. He's fair, calls in parties from both sides of the debate, and goes in depth for a full hour.

Here is the summary, and the podcast from yesterday.

Indiana farmer Hugh Bowman had his day in court yesterday. In the US Supreme Court. Battling American ag science giant, Monsanto. Over soybeans. Farmer Bowman uses Monsanto’s genetically-engineered beans to plant his soybean crop. They’re fine with that. He pays plenty for Monsanto’s high tech beans. But farmer Bowman also planted beans he bought at the grain elevator and put in his field. Monsanto did not like that. Those are ours, they said. We own that life. Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard the case. This hour, On Point: Farmer Bowman versus Monsanto, and who owns life.

He didn't build that....right?

Why does there have to be a discusson with the Supreme Court at all? Obama already said..."You didn't build that" was that for everyone except Monsanto? Maybe Obama should clarify?

Obviously IP law is

Obviously IP law is socializing the cost of maintaining trade secrets on the taxpayer, thus immoral and economically inefficient. (In almost every case immoral == economically inefficient)

But Tom Ashbrook "fair"? He's anything but. The only difference is he's from the old NPR school that tries to be sneaky about it. He's just a slicker Hannity, except Hannity actually has people on him that disagree. Tom will ask devil's advocate questions, questions he knows the guest has 'slam dunk' questions ready.

In the end the 'conclusion' is always more government.

One good segment the other week however was one guest talking about lobbies like the NRA on the right and the ARP om the left. While obviously true, Tom was shocked to hear this admitted on his show! He said "now wait you can't compare a seniors advocacy group to right wing gun nuts!" The guest of course "corrected" himself. It was amusing if sad commentary on the state of state media. Although I have come to conclude it was always thus. It was just we didn't have the internet to know we were being indoctrinated.

When you're listening to any public or corporate media you are being indoctrinated. The only way to get truth from them is to listen to both teams and synthesize the truth between them. Anything they both agree is wrong is a really good sign that it's true.

I remember not to long ago

I remember not to long ago hearing that the gov't wanted to pass a law that said we can no longer sell things in a secondary market. They talked about it and then it just dies out (or so I thought). It's interesting that now we have this case before the Supreme Court. How nice for the gov't this time they will get thier way without having to try and pass that law themselves. So now, I know without a doubt how the Supreme Court will rule. What ever Obama wants Obama gets.

Justice Clarence Thomas

Justice Clarence Thomas worked for Monsanto as a corporate lawyer in the 1970's. records show he favored Monsanto in every decision. No surprise there.

Supreme Court = Supreme Joke.

What would the Founders do?

I made this last week to help promote this courtcase...

I one time cross bred a bulldog with a shitzu

I called it bullshit. You know, same as the right for me to claim I own that breed.

This is so obscenely arrogant and someone with the breathtaking audacity to claim any ownership and cellular growth and division has been living in another reality.

To be honest, I don't even believe they have a right to patenting that seed. But to claim further, that all following breeds from that original seed is just plain sad that anyone is even entertaining the case.

Lol i fucking love

the Daily Paul. ahh hahaha. Ah shit I need a blunt after that one...

Seriously, though: Monsanto needs to GO.

Lima-1, out.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

wouldn't exist in a true free market...

Albert Camus — 'The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.'

What's your definition of a true free market and....

why wouldn't Monsanto exist in a true free market? My understanding of free market is simply no rules, morals or ethics. And if that were the case, I think we'd already have an extreme form of Nazi like eugenics, i.e., full blown human engineering, euthanasia, etc.

In the animal world, theft, rape, murder is unregulated, so if homo sapiens live in a totally unregulated free market, wouldn't theft, rape and murder be unregulated? If America was founded on free market principles, why did our founders bother setting up a government, and why did the states demand a Bill of Rights before ratifying the Constitution?

You are 100% correct! Most people don't know that in 2012 Monsatan had over 100 secret project going in undisclosed locations that experimented with the human gene in corn and soybeans. They also have a free pass from Washington if the accidentally poison Americans.

The Federal Reserve bank owns his life and ours

The problem I have with NPR is they never attack the government. They will talk about parties, and legislation, but in this case, thy've taken the side of the farmer, a big ag farmer, to go up agsinst Monsanto, as if it was Monsanto that is the problem, but it's not monsanto, it's laws. It's regulations and many government separtments in all branches of government that all work for the Federal Reserve bank.

This is just another red herring issue, that we look at the farmer, hate Monsanto and forget the governemnt plays any role.

When a farmer sells out to Monsanto, or sunkist, or any government subsidized super grower, they, like anyone volunteering for the military service, gives up rights. I'm sure this case is going to have us lose even more because it's being sold as a monsanto protest, not a government protest.

You leave out that Monsatan rights it's own legislation!

They have bought and paid for every senator and representative in Washington. Any scientist that works for the government and opposes Monsatan will be fired immediately.

Monsatan conducts it's own lab test and the FDA, and EPA just put their rubber stamp of approval on it no questions asked.

Monsatan is the government as far as I am concerned, just one big Fascist Corporation!

Todays brainwashing: GMO's are safe

Why fascist

In Leonard Peikoff's, "Letters of Ayn Rand", a collection of letters Rand wrote spanning four decades, she explains to a fan who had written and asked her, "the difference between communism and fascism?". I have always like Rand's answer, "Communism has no God, Facism believes it is protected by God".

What God does Monsanto have?

In God we Trust?

Money is Monsatan's God

They once said they could not afford to lose even $1 of business over poisoning thousands of people in Anniston Alabama. This is truly a evil company!

When I mention fascism, I am revering to the combination of a corporation and government to squash the individual. All over this country and Canada Monsatan is busy suing the pants of farmers for patten infringements when it was caused by the wind.

Surviving the killing fields of Minnesota

Todays brainwashing: GMO's are safe

Yes, that's what communism does

It's a combination of government and corporation that can squash an individual by choice or accident and feel nothing, and yes, I'm aware of crosspollination and the law suits.

Still, the article by NPR focuses on Monsanto's Part, which is giving a cover for the government's part, too many departments that are fumbling from lack of money, because a person can not compete with a corporation fairly, government has protected the corporations and themselves from us. Si it bithers me to see Monsanto get all the flack, because we've all eaten GMF at this point, and it is sustaining human life, as we are not all growing our own food, or supplimenting what we grow with other foods, which 100% Organic has not always been available.

So what good are the FDA and USDA when they protect to distribute Monsanto commodities? Criminals for hurting small and big farms with lawsuits or heros for feeling the world, which continues to have famines?

You are saying without Monsatan there would be more starvation

in the world. This is one of Monsatan's biggest lies ever told! Here is someone that explains you don't need all the crap to get a good crop. Dr. Elaine Ingam has proven over and over she can out produce the best farmer Monsatan has to offer. And she does it with little to no nitrogen and commercial fertilizers.

This Mono-culture system is unsustainable it is going to end one day, because it is based solely on cheap oil. Monsatan is one of the biggest liars ever, and they get protection from government to cover the asses!

Surviving the killing fields of Minnesota

Todays brainwashing: GMO's are safe

It's far from the biggest lie

The vast majority of people have no way to produce enough food for themelves or their families. Military, prisions, institutions all depend on vast amounts of food.. cities and grocery chains. Go to any farmland, rurla area and you will see fruit/vegetable/nuts stands, some seasonal, but they do not put a dent in the commercial grocer, WalMart to name one.

Crops are rotated. CA State paid grape growers $200.00 a vine, and then they planted oranges, and when the trees mature, they will turn, rest, suupliment, fortify, rest and then break soil with leafy cropt, to nightshades, beans.. some areas, will go from rice to Almonds, and new rice feilds will be developed.. so there is rotation of crops. To become an organic, takes much longer, but it's worth it to farmers who will take a parcel out of rotation. This contamination, or neighboring crop of and by Monsanto products, windblown, cross contamination is government's failure to defend the rights of the farmer because it protects the corporations right to exist.

Dr Ingram: With all due respect, the problem is the government's geoengineering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTxvWLrUeE8

To become organic takes about as much time as it takes to

become a chemical farmer. If you understand how soil is supposed to work you become a organic farmer the first sesason, the farmer can get rid of all the poisons in the land. Monsatan's way of farming is not sustainable, farmers use way too much oil to raise corn and soybeans.

So if a farmer does his home work he can switch from chemical to organic in 1 season. His land no longer will shed tons of nitrogen and phosphorous that are polluting our rivers.

I tried to open up a live bait shop, and was refused any live minnows. The wholesaler told me they can no longer get enough minnows to keep up with the costumers they have now. The rivers and streams in my area are so polluted the fish are dying out. Monsatan's way of farming is poisoning our water ways.

This way of farming is not only unsustainable it is highly poisonous to who or what ever eats the crap.

So now your able to give Monsatan a pass only because the government might be spraying chemtrails. Very interesting.

Surviving the killing fields of Minnesota

Todays brainwashing: GMO's are safe

That is not my understanding if USDA 100% Organic qualifications

I'm not giving Monsanto any passes, however I'm not ignoring the government's participation, especially when it comes to what is destroying ALL crops, Rosalind Peterson worked for the CA Department of Ag in Mendo for over 30 years, notices that crops were dying as levels of chemicals previously unknown to the county were showing up in the water at a uniform level, meaning there was no breach of local mineral depositis of arsenic, candium, alumimun, etc.

Only the federal government flies over this area damaging redwoods worse than lumberjacks looking for gold. Monsanto doesn't grow here, the county ended that with measure G in 2004. Maybe other counties should follow that direction?

just put on the face of Monsatan LOL, and it is scaring the crap out of the other sheeple.

I find the part where the

I find the part where the farmer says he was a Monsanto customer for period of time to be disturbing.

I haven't heard anyone bring this up yet

but -

If monsanto prevails - and someone gets sick from eating soybeans - can they sue monsanto?

previously, if something eaten made you sick - oh well. Now, monsanto may be at fault.

Environmental damages

are another open liability for them.
