Daily Caller: Rand Paul returns surplus operating budget

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says he will send a $600,000 check to the U.S. Treasury, returning the part of his operating budget as a senator that was not spent.

Paul made the announcement at press conference in Kentucky on Wednesday. According to a press release from Paul’s office, the sum is over 20 percent of the total operating budget.

Last year, he returned $500,000 worth of unspent funds to the Treasury.

Expecting downvotes for this...

So I know Ron Paul did this so people will be defensive, but shouldn't that money go back to the Kentucky residents as a tax break instead of the treasury? basically the blackhole of government. If I was a resident of Rand Paul's district I would much rather see a tax break than my money going to the treasury, probably end up going straight to Obama's skeet shooting or golf outings.

I'm open minded so I will appreciate discussion and logic as opposed to just down votes. Also I am not a Rand hater, just asking an honest question.

No

The money received from the fed is returned to the fed. The money from the state will be retuned to the state (people of Kentucky).

Rand, like his father, is more prinicipled than I could be

I'd spend 100% of my allotted budget in-state. I'd hire 15-20 people with that money to provide more constituent services (not hire cronies or friends, strictly legit). The Pauls' stand is more principled, but not really any more ethical.

Take back the GOP and Restore America Now.

Yes, you're right but I don't

Yes, you're right but I don't think it's possible for him to do that. It's most of an example the rest of government should follow and hopefully something he can campaign on.

Now this is an example of

Puts his money where his mouth is!

Good for him...glad to see him follow RPs wisdom. It bodes well for how he would reform spending when he is in the White House.

Like his father in this case.

Dr Paul always returned unused money. Someone needs to break this to the news whores.

Actually...

...I was sarcastically illustrating a larger point...one that seems to be at odds with your particular likes and/or desires, but thanks for the direct interest, again.

To paraphrase an old saying....'when a rock is thrown into a pack of Randites, a hit is indicated when one yelps'.

Hope it didn't leave a mark.

So...

Just an asshole?
