Judge Napolitano: Pope Benedict was GOOD for the World!

In contrast to all the bashing of outgoing Pope Benedict XVI that has taken place, Judge Andrew Napolitano has come out with some of the highest praise imaginable for the man who has led the Roman Catholic Church since 2005 and has been influential in it since the mid-1900s.

Benedict the Brave
By Judge Andrew Napolitano

When Jesus established the papacy, the gospels report that he told St. Peter: "Amen I say to you: You are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." These words are emblazoned in Latin across the front of St. Peter’s Basilica. St. Peter’s successors have incorporated his name to describe their work, the Petrine ministry, and refer to themselves as Papa Petrus.

But the Petrine ministry is more than work. And being Papa Petrus is not a job; it is a calling in which a man has been chosen by the direct descendants of the 12 apostles as agents of God to be the Vicar of Christ on Earth. One becomes the pope not as one becomes the president, but as one becomes a Catholic priest or the father of a child. The papacy, like ordination and fatherhood, is a life-changing and irreversible imprint – and hence, my sadness at the abdication of Benedict XVI...

"When Jesus established the papacy"

try saying something like that in Old Testament times!

In Context

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said , Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou , Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. http://www.biblestudytools.com/kjv/matthew/16.html

The church is not build upon “Peter” which in Greek is translated http://www.biblestudytools.com/lexicons/greek/kjv/petros.html a rock or a stone. The church is built on Peters confession: “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone that the builders rejected:
• Matthew 21:42 KJV
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected , the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing , and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Jesus is quoting Psalm 118:22 The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 23 This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.

http://www.biblestudytools.com/search/?q=corner+stone The church is a called out assembly of Believers figuratively built upon Jesus Christ, not Peter the Apostle. Peter the Apostle spoke the words upon which the church is built “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The Jesus clearly says

• Matthew 23:9 KJV
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Jesus never told his church to go and kill in His name. We are to have and show Love towards all men:

• 1 Thessalonians 3:12 KJV
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

The Vatican...

a Secretive City of Gold ... from which they preach MEEKNESS and "helping the poor" - explain that shit to me. And no one suspects corruption???

What the F would J do?

It's this suspension of logic on the part of the Judge and others that baffles me - but so be it. However - it DOES color the Judge's and Ron's view on Abortion.

The Line of Government Reach should EASILY be drawn at the level of our SKIN. Absolutely NO government authority has the right to reach into my body and regulate what goes on there. EVER.

For those of you inclined to throw the judge under the bus

how fickel are you really? I find it most peculiar how you cheer for him as governor or president and then attack him on one of the things that makes him who he is. His Catholic faith.

I encourage you to read his books to gain an even greater insight to who he is. His works are completely about Liberty. Where did he gain such insight. How could he be so for liberty if as many say he supports the great whore of Babylon. Is he delusional? I think not. He is one of the most well reasoned fighters for Liberty in this movement.

Who is next. Thomas Woods? I suggest reading his acclaimed book, "How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization". Tom is another of the greatest champions of liberty in today and yet he is unabashadly Catholic.

The greatest enemy that we have is division. While it is hard for Libertarians to agree on many things the one thing we should agree on is not to denigrate one another. Especially those who are the most visible and vocal fighters on behalf of liberty.

Divide and conquer is the tactic of the devil. That is why our Lord prayed,(Jn 17:21) I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one." Does any one really wonder why Christianity is waning in these days? The church is completely divided.

Thank you Judge for your faithfulness and your work on our behalf. May we be as one.

It is not possible to

It is not possible to be/become philosophically consistent if blind spots are not eliminated. Unfortunately they cannot be eliminated without first being identified. Bringing attention to someone's possible blind spots is therefore helpful, rather than akin to "throwing the person under the bus". It's not fickle to be philosophically consistent or to promote philosophical consistency.

"I do not like the reappearance of the Jesuits...Shall we not have regular swarms of them here, in as many disguises as only a king of the gypsies can assume, dressed as printers, publishers, writers and schoolmasters? If ever there was a body of men who merited eternal damnation on earth and in hell, it is this Society of Loyolas. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religious toleration to offer them an asylum...."
President Thomas Jefferson (The Power and Secret of the Jesuits, Rene Fulop-Miller, 390)

“If you trace up Masonry, through all its Orders, till you come to the grand tip-top head Mason of the World, you will discover that the dread individual and the Chief of the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Superior General of the Jesuit Order] are one and the same person.”
James Parton (American historian)

“My history of the Jesuits is not eloquently written, but it is supported by unquestionable authorities, [and] is very particular and very horrible. Their [the Jesuit Order’s] restoration [in 1814 by Pope Pius VII] is indeed a step toward darkness, cruelty, despotism, [and] death. … I do not like the appearance of the Jesuits. If ever there was a body of men who merited eternal damnation on earth and in hell, it is this Society of [Ignatius de] Loyola.”
John Adams (1735-1826; 2nd President of the United States)

“The war [i.e., the American Civil War of 1861-1865] would never have been possible without the sinister influence of the Jesuits.”
Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865; 16th President of the United States

“It would seem that the Jesuits had had it in mind, from the beginning of the war [the American Civil War of 1861-1865], to find an occasion for the taking off [i.e., the assassination] of Mr. [Abraham] Lincoln.”
Thomas M. Harris (U.S. Army Brigadier General; Author of the book Rome’s Responsibility for the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln)

"It is my opinion that if the liberties of this country, the United States of America are destroyed, it will be by the subtlety of the Roman Catholic Jesuit priests, for they are the most crafty, dangerous enemies to civil and religious liberty. They have instigated MOST of the wars of Europe."
Marquis de LaFayette(1757-1834; French statesman and general who served in under the command of General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War)

"The public is practically unaware of the overwhelming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the starting of the two world wars – a situation which may be explained in part by the gigantic finances at the disposition of the Vatican and its Jesuits, giving them power in so many spheres, especially since the last conflict."
Edmond Paris (Author of the book The Secret History of the Jesuits)

"[The Jesuits] are the deadly enemies of civil and religious liberty."
R. W. Thompson (Ex-Secretary, American Navy)

"The Jesuits are a MILITARY organization, not a religious order. Their chief is a general of an army, not the mere father abbot of a monastery. And the aim of this organization is power – power in its most despotic exercise – absolute power, universal power, power to control the world by the volition of a single man [i.e., the Black Pope, the Superior General of the Jesuits]. Jesuitism is the most absolute of despotisms [sic] – and at the same time the greatest and most enormous of abuses…"
Napoleon I (i.e., Napoleon Bonaparte; 1769-1821; emperor of the French)

"Between 1555 and 1931 the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Jesuit Order] was expelled from at least 83 countries, city states and cities, for engaging in political intrigue and subversion plots against the welfare of the State, according to the records of a Jesuit priest of repute [Thomas J. Campbell]. …Practically every instance of expulsion was for political intrigue, political infiltration, political subversion, and inciting to political insurrection." (1987)
J.E.C. Shepherd (Canadian historian)

“It is impossible to read Elizabethan history [i.e., the history surrounding Queen Elizabeth I of England; queen: 1558-1603] except in the context of an army of Jesuits, masters of deceit, treachery, treason, infiltration, subversion, assassination, insurrection, civil war and coercion, plotting for the good of the papacy, and the defeat of all the Pope’s foes anywhere in the world.” (1987)
J.E.C. Shepherd (Canadian historian)

“The Jesuit Order at last reached the pinnacle of its power and prestige in the early eighteenth century [i.e., the early 1700s]. It had become more influential and more wealthy than any other organization in the world. It held a position in world affairs that no oath-bound group of men has ever held before or since… ‘Nearly all the Kings and Sovereigns of Europe had only Jesuits as directors of their consciences [i.e., as confessor-priests], so that the whole of Europe appeared to be governed by Jesuits only.’” (1927; using a short quote by Jesuit Cordara)
Boyd Barrett (Ex-Jesuit)

“[Jesuit Adam] Weishaupt established the [modern version of the] Illuminati specifically to be a front organization behind which the Jesuits could hide. After being [formally] abolished by [Pope] Clement XIV in 1773, the Jesuits used the Illuminati and other organizations to carry out their operations. Thus, the front organizations would be blamed for the trouble caused by the Jesuits.”
Bill Hughes (Author of The Secret Terrorists and The Enemy Unmasked)

“[Jesuit-trained Illuminist Adam] Weishaupt and his fellow Jesuits cut off the income to the Vatican by launching and leading the French Revolution; by directing Napoleon’s conquest of Catholic Europe; [and] …by eventually having Napoleon throw Pope Pius VII in jail at Avignon until he agreed, as the price for his release, to reestablish the Jesuit Order. This Jesuit war on the Vatican was terminated by the Congress of Vienna and by the secret, 1822 Treaty of Verona.”
Emanuel M. Josephson (American physician and historian)

“Why would the Jesuits use their implacable enemy, the Jews, to further their designs for world dominion? The Jesuits never do anything out in the open where they can be exposed. If they are recognized as the culprits, they will be blamed and suffer the consequences, but if they can use someone else as the ‘cause of the world’s problems’, especially an enemy they can destroy in the process, then they have simultaneously accomplished two of their objectives. The Jewish people are the perfect scapegoat. Since the Rothschilds are Jesuit agents operating under a Jewish cover, using them [i.e., the Rothschilds] in forming the Illuminati back in 1776 effectively throws the onus of this conspiracy on the Jews. The Rothschilds are certainly not the only Jesuit agents that operate under a Jewish front.
Bill Hughes (From his book The Enemy Unmasked)

I think this is the first time

I have to disagree with the Judge. I humbly submit the following:

When Jesus said: "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it, " I submit that he was referring to Peter as a stone, and Himself as the Rock. This is shown in John 1:42 : "...And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone". But the Bible (KJV) refers to Jesus as a rock: "For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God? (Psalm 18:31). So the Rock that the true Church (not Catholic) is built upon is Jesus, not Peter.

Also consider at one point, when Jesus rebuked Peter: "But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men." (Matthew 16:23) In addition, Peter was married and there is no biblical evidence of Peter ever going to Rome. I again humbly submit that everyone get a Bible (KJV) and read it yourself, with only the help of God.

The Judge is free to his religious views.

The thing I don't like is that Vatican City is seen as a true political state...so the pope is not only the head the RC view, he is the head of a state as well.

Oh, and come to think of it...that "State" does not allow freedom of religion.

Thank you Judge

good read

nobodies perfect.

I already knew the judge was catholic so I wont hold this against him, even though I respectfully disagree with him on the catholic church.

Agreed. I can't understand how someone can be so skeptical of government and not of organized religion. Not to mention that Benedict was responsible for overseeing all the child abuse cases against the Catholic church.

Well done again.

Though I do not entirely agree with all his positions. The Pope is a very bright man. I have read some of works.

Mr. Napolitano may as well

Mr. Napolitano may as well have written an article about how Mr. Obama's tireless work and dedication had made the world safe for democracy.
