Glenn Beck apologizes to libertarians, begs them to welcome new people into the movement

Glenn Beck is upset about how he's received by libertarians. He says we're unwelcoming to newcomers and compares some libertarians to Nazi's. He even goes as far to apologize to libertarians for not knowing about liberty sooner... he's begging us to be nice and teach him and everyone else about liberty.

"Libertarians, I'm begging you... please... see the opportunity you have with 30-60% of the nation... people will come your way."

Glenn Beck famously once called Ron Paul supporters terrorists. In spite of that, he makes some good points about how we treat new people like him, who used to not agree with or even be downright mean to us. I was one of them. This is worth listening to.

Who is the person he spoke to?

I am sympathetic to a point because I was wear he (alleges) he is at one point, minus the media empire. Further , I have to give him credit for starting me off down this path. However, when most of us had our awakening, our first instinct was not to hector others that had been in the liberty movement ahead of us, but rather had a sense of humility about it and felt silly/ashamed about our past views. Of course, we also didn't have to deal with as much flak as Beck is now, assuming he is sincere. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he has to get off of his high horse calling people Nazis and fascists. That really made no sense, btw. It was almost teenagerish the way he used those slurs so haphazardly against people that disagree with him. I have never heard him honestly debate a libertarian like Tom Woods on our foreign policy, specifically as it relates to Iran or Israel. It is always discussed in his little echo chamber with his two sarcastic toadies. Also, he might consider following his own advice in the future and not refer to those with whom he disagrees on foreign policies as "loons" "insane" and "crazy uncle". I am certainly willing to personally let bygones be bygones, but he has to understand that those in the liberty movement are reasonable to question the sincerity of a man that asserts he loves liberty and was just months ago running down Ron Paul and praising Mitt Romney. He should engage in these discussions with libertarians publicly so we can understand better where he is coming from and he should show the same mercy to libertarians that don't readily accept him as what he appears to be asking for here.

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people a

Great... I'll step up

and throw the 1st stone because I have never been a neocon.

Phxarcher87's picture

It's a step down.

Well i'm glad the judge, Andrew Napolitano and Ron Paul have the ability to forgive him enough to be guests on his show. Good thing you don't have a platform of influence like the judge or Dr. P, because people usually don't respond well to stone throwers.

Did you cry about it when

Did you cry about it when people didn't believe you've changed your mind on an issue, or did you just keep it moving and live your life? Why is Beck resorting to the former?

He has a point..

I never really liked Glenn Beck but if he really is believing in liberty then let him be and even if he doesn't believe in it then let him be. GB has a powerful following for some strange reason that i don't understand. he is talking the ideas of liberty up which is what needs to be done. he maybe calling some people out for being hypocritical which needs to be done its human nature to do be a hypocrite. the behavior most people (including myself) don't like in others are often the same behaviors we ourselves have.

do not judge, do not force your opinions on someone. if you know the truth don't let others tear you down. if you don't like GB who cares? don't support him. don't pay him attention. but don't point the finger saying he is a bad man for saying we are not welcoming him. he has that right as we all do. name calling is just that a name but an idea of which we speak about spreads like wild fire. let him talk about that idea will spread and more people will see that liberty is the way to prosperity.

WE the people are power. WE the people must be moral. We the people must work towards are own freedom, happiness, and success if we are going to survive as a properest nation.

No one was doing a thing to

No one was doing a thing to Glenn Beck. Glenn Beck is the one that brought this issue up in front of a nation-wide audience and continued to belittle ROn Paul and Ron Paul supporters yet again. You say just live and let live and ignore the man, yet he's constantly to paint RP and RP supporters as some type of fringe group. The man is working against us and trying to rewrite the message.

Fake Libertarian, Real Douche

So let me get this straight... you're sorry I'm a Nazi?

Google is government.

Just Say No

Beck is such a gaslighting troll. If he wants to call himself a liberty person, he's free to do as he pleases. Let him get out and do some real work. And I'm not talking about stupid publicity rallies to push his next worthless book.

Oh Puke

I just hate when this Beck jerk says things to his guests like ..."you know you are one of the few people who have been talking about the same things I have been screaming about for years such as the Federal Reserve problem...etc, etc. He always morphs the meat and potatoes of our movement onto himself and then dirties it with his convoluted neocon solutions. He always pretends that he invented it and everyone else is just now waking up to what he discovered so long ago. I wouldn't even be bothered about it if he truly went along with the right solutions. But all he is trying to do is ride whatever coattails will keep him relevant while leading everyone back to the neocon warmonger plan. The guy is a clown and a fake. Remember what he did to Medina? Never trust this guy. If he wants to promote our liberty people, fine...get whatever media time you can out of this shill. But don't turn a blind eye on this turncoat or he'll pull a fast one.

he's not talking to libertarians...

he say "i get it" about the foreign policy, drug war, etc.. then says "can you admit we have problems?" ?? really? who is he talking to? himself?

Why did you "out" Ron when he was running after you propped him up as "the greatest senator we have in congress" and kissed him on your big screen... then when you find out he is running against mitt romney, all of a sudden "he's crazy" ... hmmhmmm.. YOU ARE THE NAZI you double speaking piece of trash.

I use Blue Wave, but don't expect one of THEIR silly taglines.

"To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous." -- Confucius

he has...

....trouble understanding the truth about Lincoln. I remember he had a panel of , so called, experts on his fox show and he said to them " Southerners dislike Lincoln...are they right or did Lincoln have to do those things " the "experts" said...Lincoln was right...he had to do all those things to get it done. I hope Glenn Beck will look into the correct history of that era...that is where we started going very wrong.

RON PAUL 2008 Jazzloversinc

Excellent point!

Let him educate himself some more. Maybe he should hire a real libertarian (small 'l') to help him with talking points.

It took me quite a while and I am still re-educating myself on history, economics, foreign policy, etc. Just to unlearn Lincoln as one of the greatest presidents of all time has taken lots of effort.

Personally I want to (cautiously) welcome people into the movement, especially those who have a voice. If perhaps Beck is truly awakening and not just pandering he would be a powerful ally.

Small doses

I have to remember, liberty must be fed to people in small doses. It is impossible for someone to wake up all at once.

There is a tendency to have a narrow viewpoint of Lincoln's presidency. i.e. freeing slaves is good- indisputable.

I think in the liberty movement, we try to get all the information possible and look at it from a much wider viewpoint. Our view might be that ending slavery is good, the method is what we call into question. Beck isn't ready to listen to that argument, but I think someday he will. Like I said, baby steps...

The founders would be ashamed at us for what we are putting up with.

ONCE AGAIN the Establishment Republicans; GB and Ann Coulter, arrogantly berate their Countrymen with 'Nazi', 'Fascists', 'crazy' & P*****s. You 2 hypocrites claim you're Christians, yet shamelessly DELIGHT in ignorantly using vulgarities.
"But those things which proceed out of the mouth,
come forth from the Heart;
and they defile the man." Matthew 15:18

The Bill of Rights doesn't need 'reinforcement it needs ENFORCEMENT, a Commitment from WE THE PEOPLE as the Overseers and benefactors of The Constitution. I will die a Freeman before I cower as a Slave. "You have not yet resisted unto BLOOD striving against evil." (Hebrews 12:4 paraphrased)

As a decade+ registered Republican, I WROTE IN RON PAUL on the Nov 2012 presidential election and had to wait in line over an hour to do it. What a rush! I voted as a Freeman, not as a timid neo-con.
The Establishment Republicans would rather see the party completely discredited, dismantled, defunded, and remain united with the Elite Democrats cronies & the Banksters, rather than allow Ron Paul or anyone else take power. If diplomacy fails, we will live free or die to defend the Constitution & the Land that is soaked with the blood of generations of my People.

Galatians 5:1
It is for FREEDOM that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

If Glen Beck is

truly wanting to be part of the libertarian movement then all He has to do is start being libertarian. Glen also has to understand that libertarians aren't going to jump on board until He has gained their respect. Who knows how long this will take, if you tarnish your reputation you have to make good. Some people may accept Him in a year others 2, maybe 10 years some never. If Beck plans on trying to brand libertarianism with some twisted form of neo-conservatism He may get some neo-con fans but never be accepted as a libertarian. Right now I think Glen is being motivated solely by money since the libertarian wing of the republican party is the only one really active right now. We will see how libertarian He is when the next big elections roll around.

The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it-Andrew Jackson

Well, there's no club or invite needed for heaven's sake

He can do whatever he wants, except that he just needs to realize he's not going to be at the head of the movement going forward. Someone who hasn't completely poisoned the well can and will appear.

I'd welcome Glenn..

if he didnt take every possible opportunity to bash Ron Paul, in the most hateful, insulting kind of ways. It seems to me that Glenn Beck will be one of Rand Paul's most vocal, prominent backers going into 2016. Either we'll all start liking GB more, or we'll all start disliking Rand more.

Ron Paul is 100x the hero that the government killer, Chris Kyle was. But Glenn didnt hold his tongue, he came out frothing - spending at least an entire segment bashing the man who rekindled the brushfires of liberty.

Maybe just maybe

It could benefit us. If they know they get a big bump when he talks about Ron Paul or liberty issues, then maybe he'll talk about RP more often.

I realize that at this point Glenn Beck isn't where we are, and he seems a bit schizophrenic, but I'm trying to think positive.

The founders would be ashamed at us for what we are putting up with.

Two despicable people

Coulter's rant was incoherent. Beck is just a clown. Plonk them both.

Is he right about

us Ron Paul folks being arrogant about our enlightened knowledge?

I think it's true I've probably, from time to time, made others feel dumb for not knowing the truth. It was not my intention, just blowback.

The founders would be ashamed at us for what we are putting up with.

I don't consider myself enlightened

Neo-cons choose to ignore the part of history where America has invaded and ransacked countries that haven't attacked us. They are picking and choosing which parts of history to inspect. I'm viewing it all in context and choosing to be completely unbiased by not having illogical favoritism towards my country or its "allies" because that's the "patriotic" thing to do.
