getting the OLD vote
look at the exit polls from all the primaries thus far and one thing is very evident. Ron Paul's message is not getting to the old folk. No amount internet buzz will ever reach them. MSM isn't going to get his message to them. That leaves it to the grass roots.
I believe they will support his message as they realize their Social Security doesn't buy what it used to. They must know about inflation and its dramatic increase when we left the gold standard. They don't want their grandchildren dying in Iraq.
Perhaps as grassroots we need to go BIngo nights, retirement homes, or anywhere elderly folk might congregate, because if all they hear of Dr Paul is from MSM, well, we'll continue to get our current results from that age group.
Any suggestions on where to canvass to hit this market would be appreciated.

My experience shows the senior community is hungry for the message of Ron Paul.

Senior Centers. Google senior centers in your area.
Call them up, drop by and give them a Ron Paul DVD or two. Volunteer for meals on wheels while you are at it.
Canvass, canvass, canvass...
Church parking lots Sunday mornings. Print up some little business cards (or slim jims) and put a few key points on both sides. They slide well between the rubber and the glass of a car window.

During the day and prime time. On those old "network" stations. You dont realize how many older folks wont believe anything unless they see it on CBS.
Dr. Paul probably gets the vote of 50% of those who know who he is. Problem is, only about 5% of us over 40 do.
Even if we didn't get Florida
right in the primaries, knowledge that RP is a candidate and he has addressed their concerns is enough to leave a mark for future run in case RP decides to switch gears.

We have to start going after them.
Here are some thoughts:
Fixed income--Ron Paul is the only one talking about the dilution of the purchasing value of the dollar. This is something seniors understand. Hell, I'm 50 and I remember when gas was 35¢ a gallon. I was a kid, but still I remember it. It was around 75¢ at Mr Gas when I started buying it in the 1970s. Geez--it was only $1.00 a gallon in 2001.
Dispelling the myth that Ron Paul wants to get rid of Social Security right now, just as the Boomers (THE most self-absorbed generation in the history of self-absorption and history of generations) are heading into retirement.
But I think the big thing for seniors in the GOP is foreign policy. I think they are still in a "Cold War" mindset that says we have to have bases around the world to protect us from Communism. OBL is now the boogie man instead of Khrushchev or Brezhnev, but they think we should be defending the country by invading other countries. I think McCain is vulnerable on the 100 years' war. He's committing 5 generations of Americans to fight in Iraq. That's crazy. That's this generation's grandkids and great grandkids and great, great grandkids…
18-29 year olds see the future and understand we're going bankrupt. 45+ are just looking at what's right in front of them.
I must say
the boomers really suck so far as a generation. Too much TV programming, not enough independent thought.
The younger generation will have to wake these people up.

If you call ahead, and speak to an activities director, or social director, and tell them you would like to come to speak to a group....they will almost assuredly say yes.
These folks are mostly forgotten, and starving for entertainment. Your Ron Paul presentation might be the highlight of their month.
And if you can not speak on your own, round up 2 or 3 friends and go.

I love working with seniors,
I love working with seniors, but they are a tough demographic. They tend to develop their trusted sources and then not waver. I guess the trick would be to become a trusted source.
If the "set in their ways" stereotype of seniors is correct and the ways we're talking about is the government-trusting that got us into this mess, it's a tough row to hoe, but I don't see how we can win without them. Even with very high voter turn-outs, the young are no match.
I think we'd also have a hard time getting access to the senior living communities.

I am 70 years and I am staunch supporter of Ron Paul.
BUT I AM AN EXCEPTION!
I sit by computer 8 -10 hours a day., but most of older people even if they have computer are not savvy to use it even for simplest things not to mention blogging, effective searching , watching videos on Youtube and many other thing you and me take for granted. Many common folks do not even know that Ron Paul is running!!!
Most of the people on this site also make a wrong assumptions - you EQUATE Ron Paul overwhelming support on internet with a support in GENERAL population.

Why I support Ron Paul
I am 70 and I lived 30 years of my life first under Nazi occupation and then in communist country. During my student years we were all under heavy political indoctrination and I had my first experience with government control of citizen lives.
To my complete dismay and toward end of my life I am finding that this once great country is slowly creeping into corporate type fascism, has almost broken political system, has government wasting lives of its young brave soldiers and incredible amount of money on unnecessary wars, cannot handle its financial policies and defend its own currency and behaves in word like a big bully. I have also eight grandchildren and I am really worried about their future prospects.
The senior citizens in this country are driven into poverty by very high inflation rate – which is NOT PROPERLY reported. The CORE inflation which exclude cost of energy and food and many other items (like healthcare cost, cost of housing, cost of nursing home care, tuition) IS USED TO ADJUST SENIOR CITIZEN BENEFITS is designed to rob the seniors of their lawful benefits. The true inflation (CPI) runs between 8 and 10 percent a year. These citizens paid into Social Security with dollars which were at least twice as valuable as the dollars they are getting now and they are getting less and less because of inflation reporting manipulations. Just look on another government fallacy: The houses appreciate in value as demonstrated by rising prices (not at moment). THE HOUSING DOES NOT APRECIATE – THE DOLLAL IS LOOSING ITS VALUE! And it is loosing its value fast and accelerated rate – it lost almost 50% of its value since George W Bush became the president. I have used to buy FOUR DEUTSCHE MARKS for 1 Dollar (about 1960) while in Europe. Today: you will get 0.70 Euro (DM equivalent) – that is more that 5X LESS !! People please think – we cannot maintain our standard of living by borrowing abroad, shipping our jobs overseas, printing more money and wasting our money on policing world and creating and motivating our enemies in the process. WAKE UP!

the elderly has more drive on things like this. Not to put aside the importance of youth. But elections enables them to feel amongst themselves that they have done something worthwhile. A lot of young people these days don't think like them. They say Rah Rah Rah and what do you know, come election time, they change back into slackers. But not the older adults and the elderly population. They feel that their say must be heard.

Get Out To The Retirement and Assisited Living Facilities
Old folks vote for recreation. They do not miss a chance.
All the communities and/or facilities have a speaker room, or meeting room, or library. They LOVE for anyone to come and address them. They will come out in droves, and remember that sweet young man or woman who came to talk to them about Ron Paul.
They care about their children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
For their consideration/pitch:
1) We are selling out the future generations and creating wage-tax-and debt service slaves;
2) We are experiencing an influx of foreign investment, and a global "takeover" of American assets is occurring.
3) We are devaluing the dollar, as oil pricing rises, because of our silly foreign policies.
4) If we create perpetual war, the draft will return and include females too.
5) Our military and veterans support Ron Paul because THEY know this is an unconstitutional and immoral premptive war.
6) If we really cared about our troops, we would bring them home from all over the globe....not strip them of benefits, or renege on our financial and medical commitments too them once they are home, and stop paying the private contractor firms (whose owners are picking our pockets) 10 times what the gi makes (whose family needs food stamps to scrape by).
7) If we really wanted to keep America safe, the defense of our OWN soil would be our top priority and the security of our borders would already be accomplished.
8) If "Give me Liberty or Give me Death" still means anything, we would not be forsaking the freedoms for false security and we would honor our constitution.
If the flag is our symbol, the constitution is what makes the US the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
And give them a trinket...a sign, a button, a card....they will appreciate you and talk your candidate up...amongst themselves and their families.

Canvass your neighborhoods during the day
I live in an area with a lot of retirees. Canvassing your neighborhood during the day will help if there are retired persons in it. Anyone who attends a church should get the message to the church members there. I have a dear friend who is an 83-year-old WWII pilot veteran. When he learned about Ron Paul, he was on fire. They will go for it if they hear the message.
