Less than 6,000 votes in NEVADA?!?
Submitted by baubaublacksheep on Sat, 01/19/2008 - 18:33
How many times did Dr. Paul visit there? less than 6,000 votes? Remember that rally in Vegas when Tucker showed up? I'll bet close to half that many were there at that rally........how can this be? This makes no sense. Does anyone know how many times Paul campaigned there? That would be nice to know. You know......the way things have been going i should be HAPPY with 2nd, but IM NOT!!!! Sorry, but these results are foul. Anyone remember seeing video of that straw poll with Romney people stuffing votes ? Anyone remember hearing from that guy in WY about the bus full of LDS churchgoers showing up? Can anyone say...........third party run?

These are VOTE totals...
...not state delegates. Refer to the links below.

6,000 STATE DELEGATES, not votes
The number doesn't indicate the popular vote. You have to go county by county to get vote numbers. You gotta read the whole chart. Everyone on this site is so quick to cry foul play it makes us look crazy, calm down and read the chart header.
how many votes
does it take to equal 6,000 state delegates?
Secondly, I heard the mormon population in NV is around 170K. Is this a near accurate estimate?

Factor in this...
45,000 republican votes cast only
115,000 democrats
very, very low turnout all around for republicans, at any rate.
People, just do not participate in elections. Period.
NV's population is 2.5 million
What did you expect?
There are a ton of Mormans in Nevada.
TheKingIsComing
14% and 6100 votes, more or less, actually.

understanding the demographics
The population of Nevada is concentrated in Clark County. In fact, the two congressional districts when I was growing up were divided between part of Clark County, and the rest of the state combined. Most of the land is federally owned and used for things like testing atomic bombs (Nye County). Outside of the big cities there is ranching and LOTS of desert.
The fact that there was a PAC called "Democrats for Ron Paul" advertising in Nevada tells us that many of his supporters were not necessarily eligible to caucus for him, unlike earlier states that were open to everyone.
Add to that the difficulty of finding a time to hold a caucus (where people have to be available at a specific hour of the day) in a city (Las Vegas) where people have shifts at any hour of day or night may have weeded out some potential voters.
One more demographic is that the Mormon population in Nevada is significant. This does not mean that they automatically vote for Mitt Romney because of his religion, but many people active in politics may have found him as someone they feel comfortable with (no Monica-gates on the horizon) and not looked any further, especially when the other prominent candidates were less appealing (ie. RG, MH, JM). Add to this the fact that Romney has some wins behind him, there may have been a tendancy toward picking the person who has the best chance rather than the ideal.
A second place win for Ron Paul here shows he is viable going into future races. As the field narrows down, there will be more people who look at all the candidates. Right now many people still are undecided and it is up to us to help them make and INFORMED decision.
good analysis and the moment is fast approaching
where the field will be Romney, McCain, Huckabee and Dr. Paul. The dynamics could get very interesting at that point. Dr. Paul needs to ensure his positions are not stolen by others (this especially in reference to the Huckster).
Romney has survived Huckster's gratuitous attacks on his religion, so I'm thinking he's the strongest looking overall. People will tire of McCain as this campaign goes on. I expect him to lose his temper or make some really big gaff along the line.
Can't get off because of WORK?
This is no excuse. How long have RP supporters known about this? They can't get OFF in advance on a Saturday knowing that far in advance when the caucus is? Also, isn't there a law providing all citizens the chance to vote regardless of employment obligations?

This Shocks Me
Only 6000 votes. What happened? There are 1200 Meetup members in Nevada, a few more than in Iowa. We got half as many votes as Iowa. That just seems way off base.
The turnout, 44,000, was pretty much what they expected. It just seems like the Ron Paul supporters just didn't show up. This was the one state that we had a real chance of winning.
I'm not dissappointed with Ron Paul. He can't force anyone to get off their butt and go vote for him. Maybe the majority of Americans just aren't ready for the message. I guess they want a Coke/Pepsi change. I am very dissappointed with the people of Nevada.
Look at all the votes for BOTH parties!
Please take notice of the fact that Dr. Paul got MORE votes than either Obama OR Clinton! This is not insignificant folks!!
Dems totals are not VOTES
they are delegates
I have been wondering that
I have been wondering that all day...so few votes for Paul...but he is doing so well, I didn't want to complain. It is completely amazing to me that they are mentioning him SO little on MSM and he has been 2nd all day...unreal..
delegates
I also expect Dr. Paul to get a larger percentage of delegates than is reflected in the popular vote. He got 4 delegates that I know of from my precinct.
NV caucus
Ron Paul has been in Nevada twice that I know of and done lots of commercials and mailouts. However, I was at the caucus this a.m. and there was a very large turnout of Mitt supporters--Nevada has a large Mormon population.
I also know of several RP supporters who had to work and could not make it to the caucus.
I would quit my job....
....if I had to in order to go caucus for Ron Paul.
Hmmmmmmm
Wasn't it Mitt Romney that had his own press conference talking about how people shouldn't use his religon as a reason to vote against him AS WELL AS using his religon as a reason to vote for him? I wonder if someone can question Mitt Romney on this and then ask him if he denouncing all those MORMAN votes cast in his favor? Live by the sword, Die by the sword. I wonder how many Mormans are in SC, Mitt? The GOP is toast......dead in the water........and Ron Paul's best friend is Hilary Clinton because Barack Obama owns many supporters that would support Ron Paul over Clinton.

This IS odd
Total campaign donors from Nevada was about 2500. That means a voter to donor ratio of about 2:1, which is insanely low, compared with 8:1 for Iowa and 11:1 for Michigan and New Hampshire.
Where did you find the donor figures?
Do you have a link for the state-by-state donor counts?
Thanks.
ronpaulgraphs
has some stats. I don't think it's complete, but at least it gives you a sense.
http://ronpaulgraphs.com/donors_state_count.html
It shows 1060 donors from Nevada. Still a ration of 6:1 is on the low side of things.
ronpaulgraphs.com isn't complete.
I was wondering where the 2500 figure came from. (The actual figure should be higher than ronpaulgraphs.com is showing, so 2500 is a believable number, but it would be interesting to know the source of the data.)
keep in mind
that those are CAPTURED donor numbers, that is what the website was able to capture from information streaming from the campaign. The ACTUAL number of donors is approximately 2.4 times higher
Is that where Vegas is?
Still to get over 50% of your total from one county is weird.
No check out the politico map
http://www.politico.com/nvcaucuses/index.html
It's close to the eastern border with Utah. A lot of Mormons probably over there. They sure turned out for him today!
Whats strange is
that Romney got 13,000 votes in Clark County. Those numbers dont match the rest of the counties.
here is the article from KOLO8 news
http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/13919082.html
The KOLO 8 newsroom has received several complaints from registered Republican voters this morning about today's caucus. While some locations have reported relatively organized conditions, several participants at other locations have reported highly chaotic conditions.
In addition to bumper to bumper traffic getting to some of the Reno caucus locations, some participants said they walked out because of over crowding and no direction by organizers at the sight. Dianna Kenney of Reno said she wanted to caucus for Sen. John McCain.
"I ended up tearing up my invitation, throwing it on the ground and stomping on it in front of one of the people with the caucus," Kenney said.
One election observer with the League of Women Voters said she saw organizers at a Carson City location call off the registration process after about 1,000 participants arrived. Her account has not been confirmed, but Nancy Scott said they simply skipped the registration because it would have taken too long and went ahead with the caucus meeting, trusting the everyone was registered.
Delagates not Votes?
Those are delegates not votes... different? I think so. not 100% sure

No, those are votes
for the GOP......the DEMS are showing delegate totals........i mean Edwards had more than 400 people total vote for him. It's confusing I know but the GOP totals are individual vote totals. The dems have some sort of screwy mathematical formula to calculate there numbers.
