Red Alert! DOJ Memo: "Outlaw And Confiscate All Guns"

Red Alert! DOJ Memo: "Outlaw And Confiscate All Guns"

Kurt Nimmo
February 24, 2013

The National Rifle Association has obtained a Department of Justice memo calling for national gun registration and confiscation. The nine page “cursory summary” on current gun control initiatives was not officially released by the Obama administration.

The DOJ memo states the administration “believes that a gun ban will not work without mandatory gun confiscation” and thinks universal background checks “won’t work without requiring national gun registration.” Obama has yet to publicly support national registration or firearms confiscation, although the memo reveals his administration is moving in that direction.

The memo stands in stark contrast to the administration’s public stance on so-called gun control. White House spokesman Jay Carney said last month that laws proposed by Obama would not “take away a gun from a single law-abiding American.”

The NRA declined to explain how it obtained the document. The memo was written by the acting director of the Justice Department’s National Institute of Justice, Greg Ridgeway. It is dated January 4, two weeks before Obama mounted his attack on the Second Amendment following the Sandy Hook massacre. Ridgeway came to the Justice Department from the RAND corporation.

At this point I don't know

At this point I don't know what to believe. I do think that this administration wants to go after our guns. I think they are throwing out a lot of ideas to see which, if any, are actually doable. I see all this talk about another so-called civil war and I seriously wonder sometimes if that might actually be what they want. If the dollar is about to openly die, perhaps they want the masses unarmed before that event takes place. People in this country riot when their favorite sports team loses a game. People in this country riot when their favorite sports team wins a game. They riot when the electricity goes off. The point is that the american people act like animals at the drop of a hat. What are people going to do when there is no food in the grocery stores and no fuel at the gas stations? Perhaps this is why they are pushing for massive gun control, including the talk of gun-confiscation. At this point I think it wise to stock up on every damn thing that we might need if our so-called civilization crumbles. Especially things such as ammo, spare parts, spring kits, components needed for reloading, etcetera. It seems that something is coming and it might get very ugly for awhile. We might need to hunt for food again. Luckily for me, there is an abundance of wild game like deer, here in North Carolina.

Edited to add: When it comes to things such as survival tools, one is none and two are one. You would not want your favorite (or perhaps only) deer rifle to be out of service because you did not have some spare and inexpensive parts on hand. Ask any decent gunsmith what is most likely to break or wear out on your particular gun or guns. And don't just obtain those parts, but print out the repair manuals for everything you have. God bless and keep safe.

Don't believe it

They have to do a Con Con and get rid of the second amendment first. Otherwise it would be treasonous act. Of coarse, if they tried I would expect 95% of all Americans just to roll over and comply. If they don't they won't get their ration of government surplus cheese.

Maybe America deserves their fate. I was gently trying to explain to a neighbor some of the things that were going on and he threatened to punch me in the face.

I don't know who I would shoot first. My neighbors or the gun confiscators. I'm too old to run and not afraid to die.

“Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.”― Henry David Thoreau

The USA is at the point where

The USA is at the point where ALL traitors must be held accountable for their actions or inaction as the case may be. Yes, it's a sad situation, but apathy and irresponsibility have brought us to this point. Hopefully, your neighbors will drop their emotional baggage and denial so the potential for hostility is defused.

I don't know how credible IW

I don't know how credible IW is but at the end of the day I expect the worse from my government regardless and don't a believe anyone in this administration utters especially the president who seems to say one thing and do the exact opposite.. kind of shitty way to live in a country but w/e, pays out cause it seems i'm always right.

"Article" untrue

This article -- if we can call it that -- is simply untrue. Sloppy reporting at best; deliberate lying at best.

Lie One: That this is a "memo calling for national gun registration and confiscation."

First of all this document is simply a short assessment of the evidence surrounding several of the gun control ideas that are being talked about throughout the country. It doesn't call for anything. Absurd. ("This document provides a cursory summary of select initiatives to reduce firearm violence and an assessment of the evidence for the initiative.")

It is exactly the sort of short review of the evidence you'd want and expect if you were assessing various gun control measures. If the localities doing gun buybacks had read such a report, they'd know they're wasting their time.

Lie Two: The infowars article declares the administration “believes that a gun ban will not work without mandatory gun confiscation.”

The report actually says "...a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides." It continues, "Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence."

The infowars "article" links a ban with confiscation because the report separately assesses Austrailia's ban coupled with a massive buyback. It does state a "gun buyback and no exemptions" could be effective and points to Australia's massive gun buyback, but it continues that Australia's measure "appears to have had no effect on gun homicide." Hardly an endorsement of a ban coupled with confiscation.

Lie Three: "The memo stands in stark contrast to the administration’s public stance on so-called gun control."

Either Mr. Nimmo does not understand what a report providing evidence is or he believes that researching evidence is synonymous with taking a stance. Any rational person, when deliberating, researches the evidence of various options, as this report does. To call acquiring information taking a "public stance" is the work of a hack.

We should note that the writer, Mr. Nimmo, consistently quotes NRA statements rather than the actual report in a sloppy at best, irresponsible at worst, manner. None of the quoted sections refer to anything in the report, only the NRA's statements.

Let's just look at what the summary actually says about each of the gun control measures it assesses.

Gun buybacks
"Buybacks are ineffective unless massive and coupled with a ban."
The summary looks at the Australian buyback and ban and notes that it has had no impact on homicides and that gun related violence was already in decline when the buyback and ban began. The general thrust of this section is that buybacks are a waste unless couple with a ban, which doesn't appear effective anyway.

Large capacity magazines restrictions
"Increases opportunities to detect illegal firearm possessors
There is reason to believe that reducing the availability of large capacity magazines could have an effect on the total number of homicides."

The report goes on to say that unless existing magazines were confiscated, "the impact of the restrictions would only be felt when the magazines degrade or when they no longer are compatible with guns in circulation. This would take decades to realize."

Ammunition logs
"Increases opportunities to detect illegal firearm possessors."

The thrust of this section is about how difficult it would be to implement, but perhaps useful to "identify prohibited purchasers."

"The volume of recoveries is not of a scale likely to impact the illegal firearm trade, but could disrupt some criminal activity."

Universal background checks
"Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring gun registration and an easy gun transfer process."

It details the difficulties in establishing, coordinating, and maintaining effective universal checks and notes that because the secondary market is the main source of guns used in crimes, it probably won't be effective. "Ludwig and Cook (2000) compared states that introduced Brady checks to those states that already had background checks and found no effect of the new background checks. They hypothesized that the background checks simply shifted to the secondary market those offenders who normally purchased in the primary market."

Assault weapon ban
"Assault weapons are not a major contributor to gun crime. The existing stock of assault weapons is large, undercutting the effectiveness of bans with exemptions."

"Therefore a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides."

"A National Academy study of firearms and violence concluded that the weaknesses of the ban and the scientific literature suggest that the assault weapon ban did not have an effect on firearm homicides."

Smart guns
"Unlikely to affect gun crime."

A far more truthful article on the report: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/feb/23/nra-uses-jus...

I rarely trust reporting from infowars and occasionally work one through to check. Once again, this one fails miserably.

So you think they just

So you think they just commission these studies for the hell of it and they are meaningless?... Sigh!

This is the typical MO of the anti-gun crowd. They try to single out one thing out of context and claim it is just benign. However the memo is one of many evidences that gun confiscation is the end goal. Gun violence is cause of less then 1.5% of deaths in America It is insignificant in the grand scheme of causes of death. Yet Media would have you believe it is an epidemic which is laughable.

The ant-gun rhetoric surrounding the recent suspiciously convenient shootings. Several states simultaneously moving to ban certain weapons, magazines, ammunition, and implementing registration. DHS and the Feds buying up billions of rounds of ammo and millions of weapons and caching them around the country. The feds pressuring Banks to not accept legal transactions from gun owners and manufactures. Military training jointly with police in major cities with machine gun fire over populated areas. The VA striping Vets of their gun rights if they visit a counselor. The Memos calling everyone from people using cash for purchases to vets and Ron Paul supporters etc. potential terrorists, and on it goes. The list is getting quite long.

Anyone with a brain can see gun confiscation is the goal. They do not commission these kinds of studies for the hell of it, they are trying to figure out how to do it stealthily because they know they cannot win an open fight with the people! This memo proves the right to keep and bear arms is doing exactly what it was meant to do and that is be a deterrent to tyrannical government! They want to eliminate the guns because IT IS THE MAJOR ROAD BLOCK to their implementation of totalitarianism.

This is why WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP THE GUNS! The Obama cyber warriors can go back and tell their handlers to tell obama:

You know you are hitting close to home when the anti-gun crowd comes out of the wood work and squeal like pigs and start trying to downplay the Obama regime being caught red-handed and then resort to attacking the messengers..

No, I assume reports are

No, I assume reports are commissioned to provide overview of empirical evidence. I'm betting you'd be correct to assume that those who use such reprots pick and choose and twist them to further than own aims -- as is evident from the infowars article.

This report, however, when actually read, certainly conveys that assault weapon bans don't decrease gun homicides, that magazine size limitations would take decades to make a difference, that registration and ammo tracking would be cumbersome and difficult and of limited value, and that buybacks are ineffectual.

A far cry from the statements in this "article."

Whether factual or not, it's true

The shadow knows!

Leges sine moribus vanae

What Obama tells us he is against doesn't mean JACK.

Remember how he was against gay marriage? Then, in an instant, he was for it...and so for it, the only thing he could possibly do to prove it more would be to divorce Michelle and marry Joe Biden.

(For or against gay marriage, you have to admit, his turnaround belies Obama's lack of sincerity to begin with.)

To raise the debt limit bankers demand gun confiscation.

The Executive branch wants to be the new slave master in Africa. That is ironic. What white man could have produced such irony.

Free includes debt-free!

I don't think so. If obummer tries that, he will be impeached...if not impeached, America will split up....civil war.

exactly what they want.

"Government is the entertainment division of the military-industrial complex". - Frank Zappa

they are just trying things out

discovering what resistance they meet/ players in the game. They are testing the water without creating an outright liberty affirming poll that would defeat their purposes. They're distracting us from the real swindle going on in the other corner. They're making it even more difficult to prosecute for high treason what would be any of these attacks on the constitution by themselves, normalizing this kind of thinking. Say it enough times and many will just accept it or tire of it and roll over. Sickening. I am starting to think that this Sandy Hook thing was a gun commercial and the gun manufactures boycott is just a coverup. If they really wanna turn off the food, power, or water, until people buy it back with their guns, they want plenty of volume in this commodity. How many times was eric holder at sandy hook?

If that is true

why is AJ the channel for the testing (and not just this time)? Just a question, not accusing anyone of anything.

just identifying who

if anyone really cares or says anything at this point. So AJ is where this bill meets the mainstream(fringe) public.

Election fraud, killing americans Monsanto ,....some days I just can't even look at the cancer.

They won't get mine!

All 67 Florida County Sheriffs sign pledge to protect the right of citizens to bear arms. (This is great for us here in FL but regardless...they wouldn't get mine)

Assuming you can trust the sheriffs.

I'm totally

dumbfounded at how anyone can believe anything any of these talking heads say. They tell you whatever you wanna hear... then they do whatever they want. It's amazing. Only this small little itty bitty fringe group known as the "libertarians" ever objects... but they're just a bunch of kooks anyway...

Thanks (?)

I thought only the scary assault weapons were to be banned?

You mean Obamessiah and the complicit media were lying to us?

He only lies when his lips are moving...
