Beretta Tells Maryland It Will Move Operation If Gun Law Is Enacted

By Michael Dorstewitz | February 24, 2013 | BizPacReview

The domestic arm of Beretta, Italy’s respected gunmaker, is considering pulling up stakes from its 35-year home in Maryland and moving on to greener pastures.

The Aurora Theater shooting and the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre have started a war with clearly-defined battle lines. On one side, lawmakers are furiously drafting gun control bills to prove to their constituents they’re actually doing more than attending cocktail parties.

On the other side are arms manufacturers and gun enthusiasts who foresee the very real possibility of their livelihood being stripped away and their Second Amendment rights denied in the heat of passion.
Some armorers have banded together and vowed to refuse to do business with any state enacting strict gun control measures.

Some armorers have banded together and vowed to refuse to do business with any state enacting strict gun control measures.

Beretta is taking an even more direct approach, telling Maryland: “Enact such measures at your own risk,” according to The Washington Post. Beretta is considering moving its operations to another state if Maryland infringes on the Second Amendment rights of Beretta’s clientele

I wish Bass Pro Shops would pull out on plans to open

a store in Bridgeport CT as well.

Funny, the governor was getting all this great press for bringing BPS to one of the worst shit hole cities in the country(oh - and only a stones throw from precious Newtown). Now he wants to ban the very products they sell. And the company has zero balls to call him on the carpet(or at least I can't find anything on it).

Good little PC lapdog, good little lapdog.

Ironically and Historically

Maryland was a land of armed militia and Patriots, who fought off the British at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, which gave birth to our national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner."
How times change. : (

Yessir and don't forget Massachusetts.

It is a damned TRAGEDY that the State where the Revolution started is the most anti-gun state in the union.

Massachusetts...may God forgive you and may John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams stop spinning in their graves.

"Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books...Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: 'I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't. I can. And my children will."

I have moved from gun

I have moved from gun grabbing New York to beautiful New Hampshire. I am planning to buy an AR-15 and name it the Diane Feinstein. The only problem with that name is that there are so many other politicians who deserve recognition.

All this gun grabbing is because of one psychopath who murdered about 20 people. Yet no one seems terribly concerned about the psychopaths in congress who murdered 100,000 Iraqis.

Just a comment. I don't agree

Just a comment. I don't agree with the panic reaction in restricting the rights of legitimate gun owners but I do have a problem with businesses threatening elected officials who are doing their job as they see fit. What is the definition of fascism again? I understand the reality but Baretta does not own the gov't. and perhaps should seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Sounds more like capitalism than fascism

How is saying that "if you impose unfair laws, we'll pack up and move to a state with better laws", threatening? That's the grand American experiment exemplified.

Socialist: identified

It's funny when people agree

It's funny when people agree with the the new gun's anti-capitalism...never mind that it's anti-American. The elected officials are representing more than one point of view...which has nothing to do with "socialism". Because I disagree with their new laws for a number of reasons...that does not give me or you the power to overlook an unfortunate majority who DO support the new gun legislations regardless of the threats of gun manufacturers. They can move where they want but threatening legislators to do so if they don't get their way is just bullying.

That is what will happen if they take our guns!

It is not threatening or bullying

It is merely making the legislators aware of the companies position.

It is action vs consequence - not bullying at all.

So if you tell your child if they eat that cookie, they will go to bed early -you are a bully?????

And if you feel the elected officials are representing their constituents you are sorely mistaken.
Here is the response my state senator gave - note he references other states and even other countries, but never me.
Dear Robert,

Thank you for your recent communication concerning gun control legislation. As you can imagine, there is a great deal of legislation being submitted here in Hartford to deal with various aspects of gun abuse including expansion of gun permits, number labeling of bullets, restrictions on gun use, and application of mental health examinations and services. Some legislators, to the contrary, do not support any change in current law. I am approaching this issue with as much substantive information as I can obtain including conversations with police officers and a training session at the gun range of the State Police. I am also researching the experience of other states and countries with respect to gun use and controls.

While I am a supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, I believe that the culture of violence and gun use in our country has gotten out of control. My own focus, as State Senator, will be on legislation limiting the legal capacity of guns to fire multiple rounds through gun magazines and clips which now carry 10, 20 and up to 50 bullets which can be fired by automatic and semi-automatic guns in a very short time. Those kinds of guns, which I have personally examined, are unnecessary to our civilian lives, either to our self-defense or to those who are hunters. I would make an exception for gun clubs provided that the multiple round magazines and clips are both registered with the State Police and maintained only at the gun club under strict security conditions.

This will be an interesting dialogue in the months ahead, and I certainly invite you to stay tuned and to advise me of your further thoughts.

Ed Meyer
State Senator"

Did he ever mention his constituents or did I miss it?

Time to wake up and see who these clowns answer to.

I would be very upset that my representative was as ignorant as this guy, seems to be. I would have had to fire off a reply, telling him he should be better educated about the availability of fully automatic guns, in his state, and the country, before he started voting on any legislation. He sounds very ignorant!

Anyone, who owns the AR-15 or AK-47, knows that three magazines are just as effective as one big one! The bigger the magazine, the easier it is to malfunction, leaving you with a hunk of useless metal in your hands while you were trying to fight of any aggressive force.(including the federal government!)

Who is the child in your

Who is the child in your analogy...the elected officials???

Who did they threaten and

Who did they threaten and what was the threat?

As soon as

As soon as I read the title of the article, I immediately went to their Fb page to send them a very welcome invitation to Texas. I have done this on every gun makers Fb page that has made a public stand. I urge all of you to tell them to move their business down here to Texas as well!

They don't care about your money....

They steal more than they could possible ever use right here.
Protect your assets and profit from the greatest wealth transfer in history.

Hey Baretta!

come to OhiO! The 2nd ammendment is safe least for now

I would move too!

No use in a gun hating state getting the tax "Revenue."

Berretta! WE LOVES YOU!!

no, Arizona!

NO! Move to Arizona!!!!!

SteveMT's picture

Berreta should stay where they are, IMO.

They should stay and fight; there are no places to hide anymore. Berreta should come up with a low-cost high magazine gun or have a sale on their weapons for in state residents; put this sale in their face and go for volume sales.

I must disagree:

While I have been and lived in many places, I was born and raised in a MD. that when I was a kid, you could carry your rifles and shotguns to school so you could hunt for your next meal on the way home.
Over the past 40 years I have seen it turn in to a cesspool of corruption and the dems and welfare state has turned it in to a huge megatropolis with very little of it's original beauty left.
Along with that, they have made it so difficult to purchase firearms, it is hardly worth trying to buy a new one.
I believe Beretta will only suffer if they stay. In fact, I would love to see every single liberty minded person take off for somewhere else and watch this place self destruct. It will never be able to get back to the greatness it once was. I know as soon as I can, I am going to go and never look back.
HEY Mikulski! Carden! You POS. I hope your wrinkled old A$$ drops off the face of the earth real soon.

I love my country
I am appalled by my government

Why continue to allow them to

Why continue to allow them to rob people that they vilify in order to have more money to oppress more people. cut off their funding from every source.

come to Tennessee

Your profit margin will go higher

Money talks and dogs bark

I Agree That In The South, Baretta Will Make A Killin in Sales

Maryland, it may as well be in the heart of DC...
