Abolish the House of Representatives?

"I know of no safe depositor of the ultimate powers of society but the people themselves" -- Thomas Jefferson

"The power under the Constitution will always be in the people" -- George Washington

Reverence for the citizenry and intent of empowering the people while minimizing the size and scope of government is clear in the words of our nation's founders and in the text of our Constitution. Our Constitution begins (Article 1, Section 1) by establishing a Congress, "which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." The very next section (Article 1, Section 2) defines the most numerous branch of government in the House of Representatives.

Thus, wouldn't it be fair to say that "Representatives" were born out of a practical necessity, at a time when it was logistically impossible for Citizens to collaborate in self-representation? If so, couldn't modern technology be applied in the spirit of the Constitution where all legislative powers are vested in a Congress of the United States, consisting of a Senate and House, minus the Representatives?

Putting all other things aside, what would be the benefits and negatives to having a legislative House based on direct representation?

I hope this post spawns some constructive debate on the matter.

I made a video on this subject less than two years ago.

The Internet has made it possible to produce direct representation. While I am a republican, not a democrat, I believe the people would be less likely to defecate on the Constitution,as it would be nearly impossible for lobbyists to bribe them. However, the plebiscite which gave Hitler dictatorial powers and the 98% of the vote received by Obama and Romney might prove me wrong. However, if we get rid of the banksters, this might not be a problem.
