Why do many think Ron a "nutcase" while liking Rand?

It's a phenomenon I've observed since Rand won the Senate seat - many 'mainstream' Republican types think Ron a "nut", but these same folks love Rand.

To me, Ron and Rand speak the same language. Sure, Ron can be more 'blunt', and Rand a bit 'smoother', but does that alone explain this phenomenon?

Any theories or explanations?

Because Ron says that Isreal

Because Ron says that Isreal should be left alone and let them manage their own affairs. The Jewish owned media then blasts him. The idiot sheep in this country believe everything the media tells them. Yes it is that simple.

Ron attacks his enemies and

Ron attacks his enemies and puts them in his place. He is correct. What happens though is when Ron attacks other Republicans, he pisses off some of the republican base. Whats interesting though is that he makes allies with certain factions with those on the left. In my area, back in the Ron Paul campaign days, we had a lot of democrats who loved Ron Paul for this, but they would never register republican and vote for him.

Rand Paul doesn't attack his own party as much, which makes him an enemy of the democrats who wouldn't switch over and vote for him. He keeps the republican base happier.

Obviously I'm speaking in a collective way and there are exceptions to everything. This is how I see it though as somebody who has talked to a ton of people campaigning for Ron Paul in one of the most liberal places in California (save me!).

I was having a conversation with a Rand supporter the other day.

For him, it all boils down to this: Rand is infiltrating the establishment so that we can wake up the rest of the sheep.

The other day i saw a comment here saying that someones friends love Rand Paul but think Ron is a nutcase.

For me, there is a huge problem with the above statement.

you see, i don't want a zombie Rand Paul supporter who doesn't understand the issues on my side. I don't want a zombie on my side . why? because they are a product of the television and zombies can be swayed either way at any time because of their undying trust in our lame stream media.

I would much rather have 10 informed awake Ron Paul supporters on my side than a 100 zombie "listen to whatever the TeeVee says" Rand supporters.

The slogan press on has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

Many insightful comments here...

...and upon reflection, I'd like to add one I haven't seen mentioned specifically.

When Ron first entered the national stage (for most people), at the '08 debates, he largely used that spotlight to criticize a sitting Republican president. Amongst a stageful of candidates expressing support for Bush's foreign policy and wars, Ron railed against them.

This was his introduction to mainstream Republicans, and "eating our own" didn't sit well with many.

Rand has not been in that setting, and thru '16 will not be. Big difference.

Rand Supports The Establishment...unlike Ron

. Rand Paul likes the illegal Sanctions and threats against Iran.
. Rand Paul doesn't spend much time going after Wall Street and The Banks.
. Rand Paul endorsed Mitt flippin Romney (and even while his own father was still a candidate).
. Rand Paul speaks not about the government infiltration by The Council On Foreign Relations, The Trilateral Commission, The Israel Lobby (AIPAC), The WTO, The World Bank, etc.
. Rand Paul speaks not about the immoral and unethical CIA and War Policies of The United States, and the entire premise of its criminally ruthless and Lawless Global Empire.

...
In short Rand generally supports The Establishment, with a few tweaks here and there, while Ron Paul is a clear, unambiguous opponent of The Establishment and all these policies.

If they don't say that you're crazy....then you're probably not doing all that much (which explains Rand Paul)........

To be the crazy one in an insane World, is as straight as an arrow.

Don't forget

Rands open border policy.

Because first of all, Rand is not Ron. Or at least he's not...

...bieng perceived as Ron by the GOP Establishment.

In time they will jump off his bandwagon if, as I suspect, and I hope, Rand starts being as PRINCIPLED as his father.

But so far, Rand has managed to fool them.

The only problem is, he's managed to fool me TOO on many things.

Like campaigning for Romney.

I sure hope that changes.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

the bell curve

I think mainly because a large number of GOP-faithful believe whatever Fox News says, and because Ron has been less controversial regarding our foreign policy than his father, they tolerate him more.

I always try to make conservatives remember that their internal beliefs about foreign policy have been manipulated, or at the very least heavily influenced, and they now believe almost the very opposite of what they did 10-15 years ago. They haven't noticed this transition in themselves. *THAT* is what the neocons did so craftily: they changed people's beliefs without the people realizing it themselves. And that is why it's so hard to communicate with people who *think* they are conservative.

State worshipping warmongers

love Rand, peace loving libertarians love Ron.

People have been conditioned

People have been conditioned to only accept facts which fit with their current world view. It's disgusting, but it's true. When Ron says we should balance the budget, every Republican agrees (a general platitude). When he says we need to cut X, Y, and Z to cut $1 trillion off of the budget (which still wouldn't balance it) EVERYONE comes out to call him crazy for cutting things. Remember Wolf Blitzer's interview accusing Ron of killing hundreds of thousands of jobs by eliminating Federal departments?

Rand speaks 'their' language. He speaks in general and agreeable platitudes rather than specific, easy-to-attack statements. Ask Rand if we should balance the budget and he'll say 'yes' and everyone will cheer. Ask him what we should cut and he'll make general statements, and everyone will cheer again.

Because it is easier to call

Because it is easier to call someone else nuts instead of admitting that you were wrong. Rand is a second chance for them.

This is a big part of it

More so than it should be. The egos of some men know no bounds.

Rand comes across as moderate

There have been several votes that I believe Rand would have voted against the rest of the GOP, but since that vote would not have made a difference, he voted as one with the GOP.

Ron Paul never let that influence his vote. Many times he was the only one that would vote against something. But Ron used that to get peoples attention to him and what he was trying to say. Finally people (us) started to listen.

Rand Who? is one slick character.

His old man is a man of principle.

Ron Paul is great.

Rand Who? is not-so-great.

they are trying to GET OUR MONEY!!!

....they'll court our support, speak our language,; but then they'll give us a different nominee and tell us we HAVE TO support their cherry-picked compromiser for the good of the party....duh!

OBEY!

Because the media

especially, The Faux Jews network and the zionist talk radio guys told 'em that Ron Paul was a loon. If Rand runs in 2016 they will TRY and do the same to Rand..but Rand knows this and that is why he is being very careful about what he says.

Because US and EU media

are ideologically progressive. They do not understand details about Libertarian thought, capitalism, and free society. Same with our anti-Semites who joined Ron Paul by mistake. Those anti-Semites assumed (wrongly) that cutting aid to all will weaken Israel. Pro-Israel media also was fooled into this mistaken belief. Both sides became hysterical for no reason.

But if you look at the details, 1) no foreign and to ALL, 2) weakened UN, 3) free-market capitalism - all would benefit ISRAEL.

My opinion? Egos. They have

My opinion? Egos. They have to eat crow if they say they like Ron. I agree; Rand and Ron seem to have the same views, but their approaches are different.

Simple imo

When you fear someone or do not understand them it is always more convenient to attack them.

donvino

Rand's positions give them a

Rand's positions give them a lot of "outs" and let them change their minds about a few things without going full on libertarian. The same way that tyranny comes incrementally, reversing it has to come incrementally. It doesn't matter if you're 100% right when all you have is your own private scorecard to show for it.

Exactly. You get much less

Exactly. You get much less mental resistance by easing someone into a political viewpoint than trying to shove it in their face.

maybe because they are

maybe because they are different

Because most mainstream

Because most mainstream republicans are as liberal as democrats. Ron Paul talks about eliminating departments. Rand talks about eliminating goldfish programs and sending comedians to India. Republicans especially in the media don't want to see the size of government reduced. They only talk about it. Rand knows how to talk to these people and have them come around. Ron is straight up to the point. You'll only get blunt honesty from him and that's why we love him and only like rand.

Many do..

but I don't. I also happen to like Rand.

I try to change people every day. Do You?

Because they don't want to admit they were wrong

Have you ever won an argument with someone, and they never could bring themselves to admit they were wrong in the context of the argument, but their actions later show they know they were wrong?

I think Rand gives them a way of sticking by all the awful things they said about Ron. They also don't want to have to denounce their support of the people in Congress who mistreated him when they didn't even know who he was. Rand gives them a way to move forward without admitting previous guilt.

Oh, and think of how many pundits lied about Ron Paul. The neocons still want to be fans of them, but the truth that Ron Paul's positions were right all along is inconvenient for that. Those pundits relied on Ron Paul's positions not being well understood to get away with their lies, but those positions are well understood now. All they have to do is switch to Rand and not address the issue.
