Why does Obama want him?

If Hagel is like Ron Paul, what is Obama's reason for wanting him. not knowing a lot about Hagel but reading these coments, it makes me nervous that people are saying Obama hit a home run, or he did something good for the country. I don't trust Obama, so what gives here? Why would Obama want a man like this?

The choice of Hagel

Looking at all the statements that he's (allegedly) made, and all the things he says he believes in, and realizing the numbers and types of people aligned against him - in my opinion, I don't think it's possible that we could have gotten a better choice for Defense Secretary through the nominating process in today's political climate. I mean, he's no Ron Paul, but Ron Paul couldn't have gotten through the process. Hagel is pretty damn good in my view - Obama hit a home run here.

Now, will it all make a difference? Probably not - we know whose really in charge - but a voice of sanity can never hurt in such an important position of power.

I take my marching orders from the Constitution!

This is a serious question,

This is a serious question, just want to know...

Why was this Hagel vote so important to some of you? Just like Ron Paul said, the DoD will continue to carry out Obama's policy. Hagel will change nothing. Would just like the people who wanted Rand to vote for Hagel their serious opinions on why they think Hagel will change something. Because I would have voted no because he will continue to carry out Obamas unconstitutional warfare.

Fair question

I can only speak for myself. Hagel is very much like Ron Paul. Contrary to John McCain, Hagel is NOT a former republican and STILL is a republican. Hagel turned on Bush and the neo-cons during the Bush administration just like Ron Paul did. Remember how Ron Paul loved the George Bush foreign policy debate answer from the year 2000? Hagel turned on the neo-cons, called them out, and pointed out how crazy they had become. If you listen to Hagel speeches or comments, they sound alot like Ron Paul. The Hagel confirmation is a slap in the face to the neo-cons. Hagel says the Iraq war was wrong. Did you ever think we would have a secretary of defense ever say that? Just like Ron Paul, Hagel also commented on the Israeli lobby in Washington DC.
So, I am surprised you cant see why the Rand Paul vote means so much, even for just pure symbolism.

Well....Rand voted yes on

Well....Rand voted yes on Kerry so if he had followed your advice, he wouldn't have been consistent.

I think that Hagel will maintain the status quo but there is a small chance (about 5 percent) that he will bring about some needed challenges to the military-industrial complex. There would have been an absolute 0 chance, however, it a Panetta or Susan Rice clone been nominated. For this reason, a yes vote for Hagel was a worthwhile gamble. We have nothing to lose. These days you take what you can.

OMG

Senator Shelby from Alabama voted YES??!!

I can't believe it.

Shelby is one of the biggest supporters of DoD since Huntsville, AL is one of the largest defense communities in the country.

Shocked and amazed... but pleasantly surprised.

God bless Rand Paul

I have been hitting Rand Paul pretty hard in this forum over the past few weeks especially about this Chuch Hagel confirmation. I wish he would have been honest and proudly support Hagel and go on offense against the neo-cons, sort of what Hagel did in the Senate and his father did in the house.
In any event, I was so excited about Rand's vote last night that I had trouble sleeping. No Joke! I was thrilled and honestly surprised. He had NO reason to vote yes since there was so much political cover and it was going to happen anyway. This is the FIRST sign Rand Paul is like his dad to buck the GOP establishment. Can we get more please:)
I will email his office today. Please join me in calling or emailing his office to thank him for his vote of courage.
Funny how Fox news and Karl Rove have been in love with Rand but last night on Fox, they NEVER mentioned Rand's vote. How clever!

I am happy with Rand's vote

Disappointed with Tom Coburn though.

The powers that be, WANT you

The powers that be, WANT you to believe there is a “faction” not so pro-Israel when in fact it is a sham. The perfect alibi when we go to war with Iran.

Good Vote

Precisely what I thought Rand would do. People were up-in-arms after his vote to continue debate in the subcommittee. Rand knows exactly what he's doing.

I dont know much

about Chuck Hagel, Can anyone post me some good links to read about him? Anyone know a good place to view the voting record ?

Rand Paul...

...just completed a Masterpiece of Political Maneuvering folks. We need to be really thankful we have him on our side: http://subsidiaritytimes.com/2013/02/26/senator-rand-pauls-m...

We all know Obama is a warmongering Neolib

So what the hell do you think this means? I mean Hagel's rhetoric is just lie Ron Paul's rhetoric. He even dismisses the idea that they hate us because we are free. And he states that they hate us because of our intervention. He is a non interventionist. So what the hell is going on here? We all know Obama does not act in the US's interest. Perhaps this is a camouflage? I mean what the hell this is like a dream defense secretary except the problem is that I am in a pool of people who believe Obama is corrupt and not here to do what is right but to do whatever he wants just because he wants and to serve big bankers etc.

Rubio votes Nay

They're carving out some nice clear battle lines across from which they can sling mud at one another come the 2016 election.

A lot will come down to how Hagel performs as Defense Secretary.

I think there is a concerted strategy to put Israel back into its place. It is getting too powerful and upsetting the balance of power in the Middle East. Obama provides the perfect cover to do it. But the next administration, if it is a Republican one, will continue with the policy. A lopsided middle east is not good for global stability.

The Daily Paul continues to exist only with your support. Please contribute to the the DP's Summer 2014 Fundraiser.

YOU LOSE NEO-CONS!!!

Bad day for the war-mongering killers McCain and Graham. I'll throw that bastard LIEberman in there too even though (thank GOD) he's retired.

We know how he WOULD have voted.

Not that I give any rat-democrat senator any credit either. They just voted along their party-line because their "Dear Leader" proposed Hagel in the first place.

I WILL give our Dear Leader a little credit for choosing Hagel - at least for now.

But he may have some ulterior motives yet to be known.

Afterall, in the words of another professional war-mongering murderer: "We know what we know but we don't know what we don't know."

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Sorry - Wrong info. I mistook Rand's nay vote for cloture

I stand corrected and thanks to all who wrote to clear that up.

Editor - If you can please dump my earlier wrong post stating that "Four republicans voted for Hagel and Rand wasn't one of them," I would appreciate it.

It's deserving of all the down-votes!

Also - Sorry to Rand. My bad. You're back in my good graces again - for what that's worth.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Both pro-Israel and anti-Israel folks are confused

Both sides are emotional without thinking.

Ron Paul is the best friend of Israel whether he himself understands that or not.

1) In 1981, Ron Paul was one of few who supported Israeli bombing of Iraqi nuclear plant. (Reagan was arming Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda at that time.) Ron Paul is on record supporting Israel's right to defend itself and for US to move its embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.

2) Ending US foreign aid to ALL will benefit Israel.

3) Free-society, capitalism, weakened NWO & UN, will too benefit Israel. Under free-market capitalism, anti-Semites will wither away or switch to national socialism.

Who are these "Semites" you

Who are these "Semites" you keep referring to? Palestinian Semites or Jewish Semites?

SNL must of shamed em:)

SNL must of shamed em:)

Nice Job Rand Paul !!!

Seriously. If Rand sided with the neo-cons and voted against this veteran, my support of Rand was over. Rand has courage to do this because he had no reason to vote YES since it was a sure thing anyway. But he shows signs of not walking with the GOP establishment like his dad.
Very courageous! Very proud of him. Cant wait to hear Glenn Beck cry tomorrow.

Heros are hard to find!

Has Beck reacted yet?

Has Beck reacted yet?

I though Beck was on our side now

No?

LOL

lol

Yeah, I bet he'll be totally cool about Rand tomorrow.

NOT.

He's going to have a fit, call Rand names and probably tell him to "pound sand", etc. etc. etc. He might cry.

And no mention about how he himself will need to be "open" and "welcome" to those who don't walk in lockstep with him. No, only we need to do that for him, not vice versa.

Has Beck said anything?

Has Beck said anything? Also, curious about Rush.

Dunno

I would be curious to know. I didn't have the opportunity to listen to them this morning.

Apparently Rand will be on

Apparently Rand will be on his show tomorrow. The signs are probable that Beck will "cover" for Hand arguing that Hagel is an evil anti-semite, and that Rand agrees, but that Rand can be excused because Rand wants to allow the president to pick his cabinet even if it is a "bad" choice like Hagel. Beck will do his best to ignore discussion of any parallels between Hagel and Rand's non-interventionism. Beck doesn't want "to go there."

So there you have my prediction based on the current tea leaves. This guy is an expert at twisting the truth.

Rand is very hard to figure

Rand is very hard to figure out but this vote was very much to his credit. I agree about Beck and Hannity. He is risking losing them. Will they forgive him especially the likes of Rubio and Cruz waiting in the wings?

Uh, Maybe

that's the way he likes it. Just kinda greasy you know.
