Beck/Hannity a little more stuck with limited options than that

I thought Cruz was born in Canada, and pffffft Rubio. Good luck with Rubio lol

Cruz's parents were American

Cruz's parents were American which, despite birther fringe theory, makes him natural born (at least in the eyes of current law). I really think that the Hannity and Beck types will start talking up Rubio, however. Rand's vote here really will make him damaged goods to the neocons. Here is what the crazies at freerepublic are saying about Rand:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/02/26/sen-rand-paul-joins-de...

I was looking at FR an hour ago to see the reactions

It's a good place to get a quick read of what the talk radio peeps will be saying tonight/tomorrow.

What I have been wondering is if Hagel didn't get the confirmation, who would be next up? I can't imagine it would have been a Republican favorite!!

I'm pretty sure Rand is going for the 2016, and you don't win that on Republican votes alone obviously. If he comes across as not being obstructionist to independents and even some leftists (obstructionist appears to be the epithet that will be used extensively), it might put him in good stead overall. I don't get the impression Rand likes Hagel particularly. He lodged his dislike in the original vote to go forward.

The Freeper types will be having fits every other day, what are you going to do? One minute they'll like Rand, the next they'll turn on him with the quickness. They are not the majority of voters, though. They are just going to get their toes stepped on. I'm sure they are used to it by now, just like we are.

A very intelligent analysis

A very intelligent analysis though there is an added element here. By this vote, Rand confirmed to many freepers their hidden fear that he is his father's son, at least in some ways. Many people of that type are less likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. I agree with you, however, that time will tell if he can recover with him. A lot will be determined by what Levin, Beck, and Hannity have to say.

They are just going to have to come to terms

with a much more libertarian-leaning Republican party IMO The sooner they do the better.

Or they can rally behind Rubio. And lose. Again.

I wish they wouldn't. I'm tired of losing to statists.

i didnt follow this fiasco in the news

why did the R's vote against Hagel?

I'm gathering R's always vote against whever is being nominated by a D president?

They claimed he was

They claimed he was anti-Israel, which is almost like the new McCarthyism these days.

Rand was one of the four!

Rand was one of the four Republican yay votes!!

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_c...

the misinformation comes from when he voted against cloture because he was making deals to hold up the Brennan nomination over drone program questions. but when it came to the vote for confirmation, he voted yay to confirm. Rand played this very well, though I don't know if he'll be able to get his Brennan questions answered like he wanted since McCain has hijacked the Brennan nomination holdup in the mainstream narrative.

Hagelian dialectic

The guy is a career politician. Why all the fuss?

Was he not in some voting machine issue?

donvino

Exactamundo. Whoopty fuckin' doo.

Nothing new here... same ol' sh*t, different day. CFR. CFR. CFR.

(Let's check back in in 6 - 9 months. There will be many disappointed DPers... sorry to be negative.)

What would the Founders do?

Right O.

Right O.

Four republicans voted FOR Hagel and Rand wasn't one of them.

Rand stood with the A-Holes John McCain and Lyndsey Graham and voted as THEY did.

Are you KIDDING RAND???

WHO is possibly any better than Hagel who could possibly be nominated?

Answer: NO ONE.

Rand voted for Israel first, continued wars and occupations and NeoCon status quo.

VERY Disappointing in my opinion.

Especially when I gave Rand money several times for his campaign.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

WRONG!

RAND VOTED YES

Where do you get your info?

Rand voted "yea." I'm pretty sure that is a vote for Hagel.

First of all

First of all...what difference does it make? Do you think Hagel is going to be any better than anyone? He was nominated by Obama for a reason. Second, I heard Rand did vote for him. The fuss over Hagel doesn't make a smidgen of difference to the fate of our country. Get over it.

For once I agree with you, Uku.

Why always be so condescending though?

I am happy he voted for him anyway.

I'm not trying to be

I'm not trying to be condescending. You must be reading the frustration in my writing. I don't understand why people here are celebrating a victory with Hagel. As if they are going to toss us a bone.

Rand

Did the correct thing imo. I applaud him for it. RP would have done the same I think.

Vote This Down For Misinformation

What are you talking about? Rand Paul was one of the four Republicans to vote to confirm Chuck Hagel.

wrong, i have heard he voted

wrong, i have heard he voted against cloture?, then voted for the nomination.

Ron Paul 2016

Stupid question

If Hagel hadn't been confirmed, then who would be up next in line for confirmation? I'm hoping this was the least worst guy to get this.

It appears that the calling out

made by Raimondo, American Conservative, and Ron Paul supporters swayed Rand back to the right direction. He might be giving a different excuse, but he knows if he loses his grassroots he will never have a chance for the Presidential nomination. Those who are calling Hagel a liar for backing up on his Israel and Iran comments, fail to realize, that if he didn't AIPAC would of made sure he didn't make it through. It's a much different ball game when you have to sell yourself to those owned by AIPAC, rather than be elected by the people like Rand. Rand could use the Constitution and statements made by the Founders to convince people about non-intervention, instead of playing along to get along with the Zionists. Here's the Inagural Adrress by Warren Harding the most popular President ever, and what the university intellectuals claim to be the worst. Read and you might see he sounds much like Dr Paul from an earlier time in history. This is good to share with your brainwashed pro-war Republican voters. http://www.tomatobubble.com/warren_harding.html

I agree that we may have

I agree that we may have shamed Rand by calling him out but I still think he deserves praise for this. He must know that Hannity and Beck will be pissed, at least to some degree.

his plan all along I think

it appears to me that this was his plan all along. I think the excuse he gives is pure bullshit, trying to soften the yay vote for the republican base he's trying to court right now, but I think he always intended to vote for Hagel. he made it clear that his vote against cloture was part of a larger strategy to hold up the Brennan nomination for answers over whether drones could assassinate Americans on American soil. I see no indication that he ever really intended to block Hagel, but he also didn't want to stick his neck out on Hagel during the whole firestorm, he wanted a sort of quiet subdued under the radar yay vote that the ordinary foaming-at-the-mouth-with-love-for-Israel Republican wouldn't remember. hence his bullshit excuse about the president getting wide prerogatives to choose nominees, when we well know he argues heavily in favor of the congress's authority wherever it's constitutionally possible, such as in confirming nominees.

So you admit

that AIPAC does not control Obama and all Democrats that voted for Hagel? :) People like you are blind with emotions and have little rational ability. If AIPAC controlled things, it would simply nominate a Jewish Defense minister or the one who is openly pro-Israel. Why all that drama, if AIPAC is in control?

Wrong info Ghostdog. And I bought into it.

Rand voted FOR Hagel.

Ultimately it's my bad though for not catching it.

If I blamed you, I'd be known as a democrat!

I feel like an idiot.

wrong vote

that was about cloture, he voted nay because of what he was trying to do over the john brennans nomination and his drone questions.

for the actual confirmation he was 1 of only 4 republican yays.
