Update on Jim UprichardSubmitted by Ulfilas on Thu, 02/28/2013 - 08:50
I recieved an email update faith4us (not sure of real name) on Jim Uprichard's status. For those of you who remember, Jim was in a motorcycle accident coming back from the national convention in Tampa. He had some memory loss and mobility issues that they are working with him on. He is doing better now and is trying to regain mobility and functionality in day to day tasks. If you are in the Reno Nevada area or would just like to contribute something contact:
This is the email I was sent:
I wanted to write this for everyone to see we have a schedule planned, thus far, for the month of March for Jim U. We would like to request some assistance for rides to Jim's appointments, help with getting him to shopping, and checking his mail at the Vassar post office, etc. Please email me at my personal address or call me at 775-884-2539 if you are willing to give him a ride one or two days per month, provide him with a meal, take him out for coffee or lunch, or contribute to the cause financially or some other way. Also, if any clarification is needed. Please see the attached schedule and I will update it as times get filled in or if needed assistance for new appointments arrive. Thank you. (word doc. is provided for those of you who do not have excel)
As most of you know, Jim broke his arm in 4 places, dislocated his shoulder and scapula, and has trouble with the range of motion of his dominate arm just after the National Republican Convention. Dr. Riley, very generously, is attempting to get his range of motion and his deltoid muscle working enough to be acceptable for ROC to perform surgery. We are also trying to get the VA to give him physical therapy as well. Margie, with love and kindness, has been providing Jim with good food and rides. She is extremely busy as well. She is still willing to help and on Mondays would like to meet at the Aroma Club at around 1:30 to have lunch, (Aroma Club in the Old Town Mall set back in the alcove just west of Burlington Coat Factory). (maybe someone would be willing to take Jim home or bring food on those days) Jim was my full-time job until I discovered a health crisis of my own, now I am unfortunately much more limited. We all love Jim, we need a little more help.
Our goal is to set up a networking group of individuals willing to assist Jim with his continued care. At this point he is still unable to drive, we are praying this is temporary as we are waiting to find out how his eye surgery performed. If someone may have the time but simply cannot afford the gas to pick Jim up, we would like to assist in resolving that issue. Someone may have the finances to help pay for gas and time, but cannot spare any time. We would like to set up a group that would like updates and to help, but possibly off of the meet-up, for better communication and coordination. Also, some people may live in the area off of Lemon Valley drive (near Stead Airport) and it may be a convenient time for you to take him, but not pick him up or vice versa. (In the past I have picked him up and someone else would take him home.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Again, please contact me. We will put together a list of names, emails, and phone numbers for everyone to have. I will be responsible for updating the schedule and getting it out to everyone willing to help. However, Jim is having more trouble with his memory, so this may be a slight challenge. Also, this is why I would like to include a small list of foods that are considered helpful for memory. Anyone who would like to add to the list or contribute these types of foods or any meal or food for that matter, it would be greatly appreciated!!! We would like to set up a consistent routine, but even if it is only once in a while, again, greatly appreciated!!!
Soft boiled eggs
Tuna or Salmon
Jim, please feel free to weigh in here, let us know what you like and don't. I know you love a good bowl of chili or chicken soup.... You also enjoyed a good smoothie with berries and those chia seeds from Dr. Barnet. Still??

Some have mentioned that donating to help pay for Jim's medical would be like throwing money at a home that was a moneypit.... never would be resolved. Jim realizes this. I would like to further explain what some of the donations have helped Jim with. Travel for him and his cousin to get home, and a very small amount was sent initially when Jim had no idea he had even been in an accident to keep the hospital at bay until we knew more of the situation. We were unsure if he had insurance and if their would just be a co-pay or even how much the bills would be. Most donations were used for bandages for his arm, paying to have the staples removed, and his care when he arrived home, etc.... (Dr. Devlan, Dr. Fong, and Dr. Barnet gave Jim a discounted rate for the initial care when we could not get help at the VA). Care for his memory, etc. from his doctors at Power Health. The rest has been a waiting game for whatever needs Jim has had. Now with some more discussions coming we would like to further the use with getting Jim much needed transportation, any further payment to those doctor's who were so willing to help him without insurance at a discounted rate, and any nutritional needs. Jim's attitude is great. I do not know if I could be as positive, but because of this you would never know how concerned he is and how much trouble he is really having. This is an enormous challenge for him and he does not want to be a burden to anyone.
Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers and any assistance you can offer.
