Injunction May Be Issued on New York Gun Law, Thousands Rally in State’s Capital

The lawsuit against New York’s most recent gun law is making national headlines, and prompting doubts in the state’s Supreme Court.

According to WKTC, a Supreme Court Justice ordered the state to justify the constitutionality of the NY SAFE Act yesterday, which was passed under the guidance of Governor Andrew Cuomo last month. The state has until Friday, April 29 to respond to the order or an injunction will be placed on the SAFE Act. It could prove to be a monumental victory for the gun owners’ associations behind the lawsuit.

The New York Rifle and Pistol Association spearheaded the claim–along with online forum AR15.com and others–soon after the act was passed. On Wednesday a second lawsuit was filed against the SAFE Act on behalf of a Chautaugua County business, reports WKBW. Both claims are represented by attorney James Tresmond.

Thousands of gun rights supporters gathered in downtown Albany on Thursday to call for the law’s repeal. According to the Associated Press, masses of protesters gathered around the capitol building and surrounding areas, with 5,000 sign-wielding activists in one park alone.

Noon time

I always figured the "big city states" were smart...

they put their idiots in the big cites.

Just awesome!

It's great to see so many women out there having their voices heard on this particular issue as well.

I also concur that NYC is its own beast and couldn't be more different than the rest of the state. That city and the rest of the state should be separated ala the Virginias, Carolinas, or Dakotas.

The rally here last thursday

put out more than 10,000 protestors. I unfortunately couldn't make it due to work, but it was recorded as the single biggest demonstration in Capital Park in History. This is saying something, especially in the Imperial state of N.Y.

Would love to see this law suit overturn this B.S Law as unconstitutional, well see.

Albany & NYC couldn't be more different from each other

Albany is surrounded by the Catskill and Adirondack mountains & are populated with some of the most avid hunters on the east coast. These people are definitely not fans of Bloomberg and the New York City way of life.

I can vouch for that

In Troy right now, grew up in this area.

By all rights that city and surrounding counties should split off and form their own State. They have way too much influence over what happens up here and pass laws and regulations nobody up here wants.

Great news

I'm a New Yorker and this law gives me the creeps.

Every legislator that voted yes on this garbage

needs to be charged with TREASON.

"A nation of sheep breeds...

"A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolves"

That was one heck of a sign at the rally!
