Smart tactic...name VP Now!
To give the campaign a HUGE tactical and logistical advantage, I suggest that Dr. Paul consider naming his VP choice right now. "If I win the republican nomination my first choice for VP will be ________." Whomever this is could go to work for RP right now. If, for example, the choice was Pat Buchanan, RP could sic him on McCain. Wherever McCain goes,so goes Pat. Pat would eat him up! Or, if RP wants to concentrate on Maine he could send Pat to California to get the place all riled up. This is a crazy elect process which calls for unconventional tactics.
Some will say that by tradition VP's are not named until the convention. I say to hell with tradition. This is a revolution!
If RP had done this in Novemeber he would have won NH going away!

No One Is better for Paul then,,,,
Pat is the best guy to destroy McAmnesty, McWarican, or any other name you wish to place on the "doubletalk express".
Pat Buchanan will beat McCain with Rudy's Fiscal Policy, Romney's Healthcare policy, and Huckabee's Religious Fundementalism.
and all while being polite. He is the Fire that this campaign needs.
Buchanan comes with a lot of negatives.
His run against a sitting President in 1992 is not well appreciated by most in the party (when they remember it, and I assure you the pundits would remind them).
In addition, his leaving the Repubs to attempt to be a populist candidate with the Reform party (even if his *actual* purpose was to kill that vehicle) would also be brought up by the pundits and cause a VERY negative reaction from the GOP.
If Ron were even considering Pat (which I am certain he is NOT doing) then he would be best to wait until the very LAST day of the GOP nominating convention to pick him... otherwise it would be too much of a negative.
Too late...
I had hoped that there was a secret behind-the-scenes deal that SC Governor Mark Sanford would publicly endorse Ron in the week immediately prior to the SC primary; and that then a day or two before the primary, Ron would declare that he "wanted" Mark to be his VP.
But I think that Ron would have had to be polling at least in double digits in SC before Sanford would do that. (He's got guts, but he's not politically suicidal, and there would have been a chance that with LOW polling numbers the media would not construe it as a WIN and a "surging" thing for RP, but rather as a desperate plea for attention.)
We're off topic but
waiting until a candidate is in double digits before endorsing is pure chickenshit. We sure as hell didn't wait for RP to poll double-digits!!

The Whole Cabnet TEAM
I don't know about you guys.... but I think the candidates should be REQUIRED to name their VP and their whole Cabnet Teams and who they would appoint to what posts during the election season.
That would sure shake things up.
Treg
a bit
extreme maybe. :)

Do it now.
We need the publicity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second place didn't get anything in Nevada. Ron paul could have won that state and still they wouldn't say a thing.

It would be a gamble, but
It's fairly obvious that we're the underdog, and it might be a gamble that would work well if the right person was chosen, and they wholeheartedly agreed with Ron Paul. Ron could use a little help out their on the campaign trail, because his campaign staff is doing so little to get him in the public's eye.

Unfortunately, most of the folks who read my original post
don't get it and start naming potential VP's. That's fine, BUT the point of my post is WHEN not WHO. What are the pro's and con's of doing this now? Is it a good idea or foolish as some have suggested? Why would it be a bad idea?
You say doing this would be a gamble. Why? What is the risk?
h-daddy
No, we didn't miss it
...we took the bit in our teeth and ran with it!
Yup. Sorta knew it would happen....
could use more feedback with reasons pro or con

Jeff Flake, AZ Rep.
Easy answer..
Jeff Flake!!
Funny name, but same principals as Dr. Paul.

He has come out for McWarican
Silly
Except for
his stance on immigration. Otherwise, I like Flake and Pence for that matter.
We need Huckabee's voters
Judge Moore would do that now. Christians would leave Huckabee in a minute for Judge Moore.

Judge Moore
would run off as many supporters as he would bring on board. Not sure that he would be all that compatible w/RP anyway.
I think Mitt gonna's pick Buchanon

Buchanan may be too old anyway
I like Pat but Dr Paul is 72 and needs a younger running mate. I can't think of any other way to minimize the age factor, which will come up more if Dr Paul advances.
In past posts others have suggested Walter Williams, an economist who shares Dr Paul's views:

What say you here?
Buchanan?
I'd heard rumors that Mitt was thinking about our gov., Matt Blunt. Not a great move, IMHO.

Colin Powell
Though he was part of the first Bush admin, he was not a Bushie and tried to fight the neocons from within the system. Powell would give Dr. Paul something the media has denied him - a ticket with name recognition and even stronger domestic and international support. Both are anti-Iraq War. Being VP would also give Powell a strong shot at being President some day.

Out of sight, out of mind -- is that all it takes? This guy (POWELL) was standing proud at the podium with slides on the screen pointing out exactly where the WMD was (see it, there it is, over there in that mobile van and over there and over there) ..
WAKE UP forum friend, the truth seems to have escaped you. Sorry to say that to you but it's true nevertheless. Complicit.
Vote RON PAUL 2008
Good idea
Does anyone know from campaign who their choices would be?
Can anyone start talking to campaign about this idea?

Check out Dr. Walter E. Williams
This is on the Wikepdia page for Dr. Williams...
...Williams has stated that he is inundated with emails, but won't run, although he won't completely rule out the possibility. Instead, he endorsed Republican candidate Ron Paul. Paul himself has suggested "[s]omebody like Walter Williams" as a running mate...
Strong African American running mate. I'd love to see the MSM cover this one. Even Rush Limbaugh is a Dr. Williams fan.
Walter Williams would be a
Walter Williams would be a good choice. That would pull votes from B.O. (Oh my, I just noticed his initials and didn't his wife say he smelled?) I know I heard Dr. Paul mention Walter as someone he would like to have on his side. Plus with the problems with the economy Walter would be excellent since he is an economist.
I think listing people who he would include in his cabinet would be of great help. I wouldn't rule out Dennis K. either, as foreign ambassador. That could bring some Dems over to Dr. Paul's camp.

would be great. Naming an entire cabinet would be a *bit* premature. As far as Kucinich, while I appreciate the good things he has said about RP, he isn't even respected in his own party; as an ambassador, he would be a loose cannon on deck.
VP message to Ron Paul
I was fortunate to meet Dr Paul's sister in law a couple of weeks ago, she was his surgical nurse for like 18 years - she was terrific, I asked her to suggest to Dr Paul he go ahead and name his VP candidate, it would be un conventional, get loads off attention and get another pair of boots on the ground - she said she would pass that along, wonder if she remembered?

Good for you!
