Justin Amash: Young Libertarians Should Work Inside the GOP

There is quite the debate going on in the liberty movement as to whether or not libertarians should partner with conservatives and/or Republicans to advance their beliefs. This was part of a discussion that I had with David Boaz, who explained that libertarians could work with conservatives on fiscal issues, but was “uncomfortable” with defining the movement to include conservatives.

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), who generally votes in a manner consistent with libertarian principles, weighed in on the debate last week, telling a crowd of college students that young libertarians should work within in the Republican Party to advance their views.

Fact of the matter it, the LP has no chance of winning and it it a better plan to work with an organization that can at least compete

"Young Libertarians Should Work Inside the GOP"

I disagree

Or join the DNC.... BOTH parties need us.

Infiltrate BOTH the GOP and DNC.

The 2-party duopoly needs to be libertized from within.

Have you been libertized?

Norman Thomas, former

Norman Thomas, former associate editor of Socialist Party of America's magazine, The Nation, declared that America will never knowingly adopt Socialism: but under the name of liberalism it will adopt every fragment of socialism without knowing how it happened. he went on to say the difference between Democrats and Republicans is Democrats have adopted some ideas of socialism cheerfully while Republicans have done so reluctantly.Sam Webb, chief of Communist Party USA speaking at the Communist Party USA national Convention stated with the election of President Obama, America was on the road to socialism. The plans were a socialist united States were laid out in Colonel Edward Mandel House's book,Philip Dru, Administrator as was dreamed of by Karl Marx.

purge the Republican party of

purge the Republican party of the Romney's and the McCain's... will take some time but can be done.

True Story

100% agreed. The sort of change we want doesn't happen overnight. This may take a good decade or two.

An old timer admitted to me:

During a conversation with a quiet and meek old man, he told me that he and others refused to give up. There were reasons for secretive meetings. Had they not thought things out and planned far ahead, it would have been more difficult to succeed. He admitted that it took more than decades, since he was a child, to overtake the 'opposition'. Little by little, a bone here, a bone there, subtly they infiltrated to get what they wanted. He then asked me: what makes you think that you can undo in just a couple of elections what we worked hard for my entire life? That old timer is a die-hard democrat.

You already know how I feel about this one PAF

But in the interest of keeping Amash up I will comment :)

I feel like if every Liberty

I feel like if every Liberty lover out there stopped buddying up with the GOP we could get more done. Grow the LP a bit more and start competing against the GOP for spots in govt.

Not a chance of it working. LP is just awfully organized.

We're talking an entire county organization being made up of 8 people meeting monthly in a Big Boys here.

The gop is fighting a losing

The gop is fighting a losing battle. Until they change their players and their underhanded tactics, what is the point? For example Priebus needs to step down after a dismal failure. Boehner needs to resign for cripes sake. They are war lords and power mongers. Will Libertarians stand a chance or anybody else for that matter who does not or will not toe the party line?

"Until they change their players and their underhanded tactics, what is the point? "

The point is to change the players ourselves. That's how it happens. They don't just go away....

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed

They won't change without us

If we don't show up, they win and nothing will change. 90% of the battle is showing up. If we have the numbers, eventually, we will win. we won't win overnight. We must start at the bottom, changing the representation of our districts, then counties, then states and finally changing the RNC who can then pick a new leader. Several states have done this.

Corrupt leaders can delay this inevitable change, but if we give up, their delaying tactics will succeed.

With everyone's on this board help, we can change the GOP from the bottom up. As others have alluded, the Republicans are extremely weak. They have not only turned away members of the Liberty Movement, others have left because of the corruption and the failures of the RNCs last two picks. The rules changes at the last Convention have upset many long time republicans.

The GOP is ours for the taking if we show up. We must team up with Tea Party Republicans, Long Time Conservative Republicans, Right to Lifers on issues that we agree and put true conservatives into leadership. We can follow the lead of Ron Paul and form coalitions.

Make change at the local level first, Use issues to grow your networks. Remember that the collectivists have a solid lock on the Democratic party. That is the real battle we have to right.

I believe everyone must choose their own path towards Liberty, but I believe Ron Paul and Justin Amash have it right by working in the Republican Party. Help us turn the Liberty Movement into a Political Force by gaining power thru the Republican branch of our two party system.

Am I mistaken

Wasn't the big hullaballu at the RNC when they "busnapped" liberty people was a vote to allow the National Committee's choice for candidates to "pick" their delegates from all the states?

What good is taking over a state party if they are already neutered?

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."--Mark Twain

Grab a precinct and primary out the neo-cons.

(Normally, you can volunteer to be precinct chair for any precinct that's not covered at this point. Get the list, see if yours is vacant and offer to do it.)

I'm serious.

I am!

Either he's blind, stupid, or he sold out.

Sorry Justin, what a disappointment your comments are!

The GOP is NOT friendly to Liberty. Get over it already. They don't want Liberty, they want power, money and control, so they can CRUSH anyone who isn't them.

I don't trust them one bit. And as long as you remain a Republican, I don't trust you either.

This latest comment from you is making it hard to think otherwise.

I love the use of "they" as if you knew all of them.

Joining the GOP as your way of fighting = leaving behind all principles or hope of changing things for the better. Obviously.

Sarcasm above, in case it isn't clear.

Eric Hoffer

This is BS....

The GOP is on life support and they know it! I went to my county caucus last weekend to become a delegate and was literally 1 of 4 people that showed up for my district in a city of 1mil.

This is extremely easy to infiltrate and thats the point! But, people like you discourage others from doing something that would be very easy to accomplish if we just had the numbers going in.

It's a numbers game at these things, not an ideas game.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed

Infiltrate all you want

and watch the National committee throw you out and install zionists/rinos at the convention.

the spirit!

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed

Sounds like Stockholm

The GOP still is trying to bar non-Establishment members

I attended a GOP county caucus over the weekend and officials said delegates would not be able to participate in the upcoming convention to elect new leaders if they hadn't voted in the last two Republican primaries or weren't members of the Young Republicans, Federation of Republican Women, etc.
Attendees also were told they may have to pledge an oath to the Republican Party and support its nominees if there allegiance is in question.
Based on the requirements, it doesn't appear the Establishment GOP is welcoming Libertarians or newcomers if they question the party line or won't support lame non-conservative candidates such as Romney.

My county

has this policy also but only if a delegate is challenged. I hadn't voted R in the last two cycles but no one challenged me either and now I'm a delegate to the county convention. You might want to look into this.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed

No sweat.

Let gop die out. By 2020, if there is anything left of this forsaken place, the young generation that Ron and Rand Paul, Justin, Massie and others reach out to, will have their moment. And that is when I have mine :-)

To gop: Yes, life can be a real b|tch sometimes. lol

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

If you're not part of the solution

and being part of the controlled demolation is your agenda then what do you have to replace it with that can beat the UN replacing it with something for you? :-D

((((( Granger )))))

Why do you pick on me so much? Do I not support you when you do your thing? Do I not support the right people, such as JUSTIN AMASH who is On The Horizon, Massie, Ron Paul, and you know who [fill in the blank]? Do I not drive state to state, under and over bridges, through snow and rain and pot-holed roads, proudly displaying my r3VOLution car badge (it's a hands-free sign-wave!)? Do I not attend shill-filled meetings, numorous gun shows and other events, discussing and handing out thousands of important literature? Do I not mention HOT-WINGS every chance that I get?

Get this straight right now, young lady: gop = grand old party, one of which you hold very dear. My goal is to replace gop and those in it with gnp. That, in case you do not know = grand NEW party. You can mark my words, it will be done.

I am not part of the solution. I AM the solution.

So, can we online kissy kissy make up? Or do you want (((( Nonna )))) to step in and discipline us both!

Edit: Yep, I one-up'd you again with this post, lol

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

Why I pick on ((((PAF)))))

I pick on you because I would like to be on a committee with you, so I figure others would also like to have you on a committee and running grassroots on convention floors for organizations like Republican Liberty Caucas. It's not that I don't admire you for the work you do, it's just that, from where I am now, there's much more you can accomplish from inside... and it wouldn't stop you from what you aklready do, it just enpowers you to do it better.

I do not hold the GOP very dear. I am new to the GOP because I understood Ron Paul say we had a fight going on in there, and he is correct, and it's a good fight.

As for this New party.. Obama was vetted in The New Party, the Neocons are a New Party that infiltraited both parties and has the GPP in the controlled demolation because they want a NWO corporate global controlled government, and so you are saying you are with those who are tearing down the republic?

I need HELP ((( Granger )))

I need HELP and ADVICE concerning gop. I tried calling you but no answer. Can you call me?
