My first Local Republican Potluck
Last night I attended my first local Republican get together. I wasn't thrown out! There were probably 20 people in attendence. (The food was good!) Everyone made me feel real welcome and a few people there even liked what Ron Paul has to say. I tried to represent the otherside of the republican party. I added a few opinions that ruffled some feathers but I pointed out that they need to hear those opinions inside the party meetings because they surely will meet those opinions outside the party. In our county we have 30% Republican and 70% Democrat. I tried to express the idea that we need to be inclusive and welcome new people and ideas. I learned a lot about our local government, I learned about how our state picks canidates. I hope to bring more people to the next meeting and see if I cant get more people involved in the system!

One of the Best Ideas of the Day from Jean
Wow Jean. Just read your post and am impressed. Hope others read it. It is one thing to preach to the choir, what you did is something else.
In addition, dailypaul folks, Jean points out that she (or he if Jean is French) was welcomed. The important thing is that Ron is running as a Republican. We know the base is broad and stretches across both major parties, libertarians, students and others who have never voted, the disillusioned, etc, but right now we are attempting to get him nominated by the Republican Party. If you have registered...or will soon...as a Republican, consider doing what Jean did.
I'm thinking about it now. Go to a Republican function. And, even better..try to find a potluck as Jean did. She/he says the food was good ...and she fed them as well. Perhaps three people who met her, will look Ron Paul up. Perhaps each of them will tell three people to consider Ron Paul and those three will tell three more. Conviction and non-confrontational friendliness from good people like Jean when presented in a genuine manner (as Ron Paul presents himself) is contagious. Thank you Jean for doing that and thank you for writing about it. I had not thought of that!

Something else I learned at the Republican potluck!
I learned that until very recently in our state (Washington) the primary election was all show! It had nothing to do with the selection process for the Candidates! The selection is done by the parties! The party is not required to vote in line with what the people want. The Washington Republican Party now (starting this year) gives 51% of the delegates to the candidate who the people voted for in the primary and the other 49% is still the choice of the Republican Party! The Democratic Party in Washington (I was told) does not have to follow the voter’s choice at all! They select caucus members and those members vote for who they want to vote for! The general public has no say in who the democrats choose! SO GOING TO THESE MEETINGS IS VERY IMPORTANT IF WE WANT TO GET RON PAUL ON THE BALLOT! IT IS THE ONLY WAY!
Here is more information!
In my small county 15 people showed up for the republican party meeting! From what I could see those 15 people are the only representives for our county! They have all the say, we need to include many more people in this process! These meetings are where the change happens if any change is going to happen! To find your local Republican party meetings contact your state party and they will get you intouch with your local group!
I would love to here back from those who do get active. Let me know how things are going in your area! Thanks Jean
