Eric Holder: 'The President has no authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil'

The following is the letter sent to Rand Paul by Attorney General Eric Holder:

Dear Senator Paul:

It has come to my attention that you have now asked an additional question: "Does the President have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil?" The answer to that question is no.

Sincerely,

Eric Holder

great

lets not forget.

they still get to send drones around the USA to .. oh you know.. spy.

aka violation of constitution.

and don't forget... armed drones can be 'hacked' into and taken control of by... oh you know.. "terrorists"

The slogan press on has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

How about an American citizen not engaged in combat...

NOT on American soil?

There is the next question.

When the White House Responds

to Rand and its positive news CNN makes it BREAKING NEWS!!

During the entire filibusters CNN buried the story and pretended like it wasn't happening. FAIL

In related news

the Department of Defense will be changing the name of it's controversial Unmanned Aerial Surveillance and Assault Vehicle from Drone to Scone, and is expected to invest more than a billion dollars improving public perception and understanding of the new Scone Pogrom. "The first thing we need is a slogan", remarked Illinois Senator Rich "Dick" Durbin.

WhiteHouse.gov.con.dum has already begun a contest to pick the new slogan, the winning entry will be decided by popular vote and then discarded. Early entries include; "Pastries don't kill people, men in bunkers eating donuts kill people", "Is that a knish in your pocket or are you planning to launch a hellfire missile" and my personal favorite "Oooh, You look tasty".

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

"...neither shall they learn war anymore"

I get all misty just thinking about it. : )

I love that verse :) It's very hopeful considering what's going on around us right now.

Thanks Davyc. That's what I was thinking.

What Holder Really Said...

Holder selected a carefully qualified question in order to justify a narrowly tailored answer that reserves an expansive claim of executive power to authorize summary executions by the president. That’s how totalitarians operate.

Should Post.....

this in it's own thread. Believe me, as soon as I read the response I knew there was something sinister about it. I don't remember Rand asking "if they were non-combative" I thought the question was, does the administration believe it's constitutional/legal to target & kill US Citizens on US Soil, with Drones, Period. Very disturbing to say the least.

UPDATE: 2 Tweets From Rand Paul's Spokesperson...

UPDATE: Apparently, the White House and Justice Department failed to send the letter to the person who asked the question--Rand Paul.

good luck trending that

I'm glad you can see about 2 feet in front of your face and about 6 seconds into the future. You need a new hobby, because politics makes you an idiot.

Whew

It's a good thing politicians and bureaucrats are trustworthy. Ha.

Bitchin' theater, though. That's all that's really necessary, eh?

Rand voted "NO" for cloture. One of 16 no votes.

Good. Rand will probably vote for Brennan in the actual vote coming up.

NO!!!! On confirmation, Barasso, Cruz and Rand all voted

No! I didn't hear Rand's vote on cloture but, Barasso voted No on that, too.

Taken with a grain of salt

Sorry, but when a lying murderer has his lying murderer send a short letter out saying they won't drone strike Americans, I tend to have my doubts that they aren't lying and that they won't murder Americans.

They already conducted a drone strike on an American. I guess geography dictates whether a person is entitled to due process and other human rights.

Little can be done now

since Democrats refused to pass the resolution with exact wording.

DEM and GOP lawyers can always argue that "engage in combat" means simply siding with the enemy or giving them assistance. Snakes.

This.

In the end Rand backed down without a law. I'm sure the lawyers at the Justice Department right now are writing a case for the expanded meaning of the word "combat", in the same way as they did "imminent".

None of this means a thing to Rand; he won his brownie points with the soft heads. He will go right ahead and vote for Brennan.

In case he does read the DP: Gold star, Rand! You've played the game well, and gave your sycophantic "Rand Paul republiCANS" something to talk about. Got to get them ready to throw their cash into the black hole which will be your 2016 campaign.

I kind of feel like this was all a charade

I hate to be cynical but this seems funny. A three sentence response is enough to convince you Dr. Paul. Really?

Look at it this way, he got a

Look at it this way, he got a response :)

And he brought the issue to

And he brought the issue to the whole world's attention. No small feat.

Yea Big win there

A response.. Nice!
Score for Liberty! We got a Response!

Just in: cloture vote for Brennan was 81-16.

Debate ends, and the actual vote for Brennan begins.
