Subject: Don't frack our food and farms!

I signed a petition to Bob Abbey, Director, U.S. Interior Bureau of Land Managment, James G. Kenna, Calif. State Director, Bureau of Land Management, and David Christy, Central Calif. Public Affairs Officer, Bureau of Land Management which says:

"California is the largest producer of food in the U.S. Fracking and farming cannot co-exist. If we frack California's farms, we put the entire country's food supply at risk. Please stop auctioning off California's public lands to the oil and gas industry for fracking."

The U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has already auctioned off 1,750 square miles of California’s public lands to oil companies intent on extracting oil, using a controversial technology called hydraulic fracturing – or fracking. In May, the BLM plans to auction off even more of California’s Monterey Shale, a geological formation that extends from northern California to Los Angeles, and is home to cattle ranches, dairy farms, vineyards and organic farms."

Living in Texas where drilling for natural gas has always been around... there wasn't a durn thing wrong with the way they used to do it. Now with all the fracking, it's causing lots of water issues, not to mention what our cattle are drinking.

Sad. Flammable water, people still insist fracking is a great idea. We are already on the verge of a potable water catastrophe, so lets go pump some toxins into the aquifer.

Fracking is something I am highly distrustful of. However, it can certainly be argued that it's "free market". However, that brings up one of the things that maybe I'm a "free market hypocrite" on. I don't want big business to permanently destroy the land, water and air and then simply "pay a fine". No amount of money can compensate for making the environment unlivable. I am pro free-markets in most instances but I have a very difficult time reconciling this one.
