EU to vote to ban all forms of pornography

MEPs will next week vote on a "ban on all forms of pornography" including censorship of the internet in a bid to "eliminate gender stereotypes" that demean women.

Controversy has erupted over next Tuesday's European Parliament resolution "on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU", meant to mark international women's day, after libertarian Swedish MEPs from the Pirate Party spotted the call for a ban in the small print.

While not legally binding, the vote could be the first step towards European legislation as the EU's assembly increasingly flexes its political muscle within Europe's institutions.

The proposal "calls on the EU and its member states to take concrete action on discrimination against women in advertising... [with] a ban on all forms of pornography in the media".

Kartika Liotard, a Dutch left-wing feminist MEP, is seeking "statutory measures to prevent any form of pornography in the media and in advertising and for a ban on advertising for pornographic products and sex tourism", including measures in the "digital field".

The MEPs are also demanding the establishment of state sex censors with "a mandate to impose effective sanctions on companies and individuals promoting the sexualisation of girls".

Would the obvious degenerates who run the EU be exempt?

Maybe that's why the don't mention gay porn?

"Liberty tastes sweetest to those who fight for it, and most bitter to those who work to deny it!"

what about gay porn?

what about gay porn?

Ban porn in defense of women?

What will happen to all those women (and men) whose only skill set is depicting sex acts in pornography? Add one more persecuted minority to the unemployment line.

and what about makin' your own? bow chika wow wow

The black market just got richer, ah yeah

Hi,

It's funny, the banning of things just helps out the underground markets. Less freedom for the EU like usual.

Wait, what if I sell porn to

Wait, what if I sell porn to someone over there(from the US) once it goes illegal and get caught? Will they want me to be shipped over there to stand trial? What happens if someone travels with it to there from another country? This opens all sorts of legal stickiness.(although no pun intended there, haha)

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

"degrading to women", or just

"degrading to women", or just depicting real life?

Just in time for 50 Shades of Grey movie to be released

That friggin' piece of crap book. Seriously. If Europe does this just think how wonderful sales will be for the banned movie and the books.

Free market capitalism isn't right for America because it works better. It's right because it's free (and it works better).

Great! Now all those people will move here illegally.

We are still the number one leader in porn. It is proof that we continue to be a free nation. God Bless America!

3 yeas old and under is considered Platnium.

How sick is that? Yes. the USA is the leading producer of Porn (and that includes child pornography) in the world.

Impossible. But say hello to

a whole new profitable business, contraband porno. These fools think it will help women, what they will get is a whole new dangerous world of illegally made porno, this time with perhaps unwilling women in the sex slave trade (itself caused by liberty restricting immigration laws).

Fools.

Fools must be taught that only through the pursuit of Liberty do we get its wonderful offspring; equality & justice & security.

What about

Men on men porn? hehe, that doesn't "demean" women.

Ridiculous IMO. You don't like it don't watch it.

Little kid pervert stuff, yeah, stop it and chop their nuts off (or whatever the equivalent is for women). But consenting adults is a whole 'nother ballgame.

Adult porn will never be censored. The women in the videos consent and are paid well.

Women, are in fact,

Paid much higher wages than men in the porn industry.

What's next books?

If anything.. they will end up promoting porn.

Is there a porn stock market I can invest in? :)

I try to change people every day. Do You?

I'm pretty sure The Vatican is invested in

I'm pretty sure The Vatican is invested in the largest publisher of pornography in Europe. Its a Publishing company based in Germany. It also publishes books on Satanism and the Occult. Go figure.

You are so close, let me finish that thought...

Outlawed item = black market = more profits.
This could get interesting. How much of Hollywood will be censored? Imagine if the EU DARES to dis our entertainment royalty... Will Gaga be gag gagged?

They are handing enforcers a tool for bribery.

Governments are always doing this. It was very popular in the Soviet Union.

Pay the man with the badge or shovel snow in Siberia. You choose.

Free includes debt-free!

Id like to see them try.

Id like to see them try. haha
They cant even stop child porn and things like that, what makes them think they will be able to stop something in upwards of 95% of the population has watched at one time or another?
No, that percetage is not made up. Obviously fewer people than that watch semi/regularly, but thats the percentage of people who have watched it at some point in their lives. Another study I saw had the figure of 90% of people having watched at some point.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Prostitution in Europe is already legal in eight countries.

Is that next?

Prostitution in Europe is legal in eight countries: Austria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Netherlands and Turkey. Meanwhile the laws against prostitution in Europe are enforced to varying degrees across the rest of Europe meaning that it’s more possible to find prostitution in some countries than others.

This gives me visions of

This gives me visions of bureaucrats playing with citizens lives like a 6 yr old plays with dolls. "You just stay right there in that corner I put you in."

The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. - Heinlein

It gives me visions

of an empty Europe, with nothing but the monks left wandering around wondering where all the little boys went...
History class, 2024: "The European Union was a collection of nations, joined by a common currency. It began to crumble when the currency proved to be as worthless as any other fiat currency, but the final straw came when the citizens made a mass exodus of the entire continent on December 31, 2013, the day pornography was outlawed. It has raised speculation that the "lost civilizations" of Atlantis, the Maya and the Anasazi may have also simply voluntarily disbanded and scattered when someone tried to outlaw cave paintings of naked people."

If they do ban it,

the European elite will still be up past their eyeballs in it.

Horseshit

You can't change the morality of the people with a pen. The only thing legislation is good for is diminishing freedom.

Of course you can't change the morality of a people

with a pen, but you can enforce penalties that keep most people from committing certain immoral behaviors such as murder, rape, and kidnapping. It's called keeping a lid on uncivilized behavior so that society can be stable.

Murder, rape and kidnapping

Murder, rape and kidnapping are acts which deprive others of liberty.
The matter we're discussing infringes nobody's liberty. It concerns only individual actions and choices which affect only the individual in any potentially adverse way. There is a huge distinction between having laws to prevent/punish murder and having laws to prevent/punish some sexual preference. Murder is absolutely wrong from every perspective (except perhaps a psychopath.) Sexual 'perversions' may be extremely perverse to some but not perverse at all to others, it's subjective. So why do some uptight people get to decide what is or isn't sexually acceptable?

If someone gets to legislate simply based on them finding something immoral or perverse, where do we stop? What if I find it to be immoral to have a bad diet or to not exercise, or to drive a car, etc? Where does it end? Who gets the final say? Where do they derive the right to save someone from themselves, or to be some kind of society architect? If there's anything I know about government, it's that NOBODY is a suitable architect of society.

How about instead of that, we just base our laws on liberty. If an act diminishes the liberty of another, there should be a penalty that mirrors the extent of liberty deprivation. If an act serves only to make someone personally less 'moral,' (in someone's narrow view) how about we not be Nazis about it. We don't need a perfect people, everyone living up to someone's idealized view of morality. We just need free people and the ability to tolerate each other.
